Carrion Crown Campaign run by Whispers through the Snow.

1 to 50 of 118 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

All of you have known the late Professor Lorrimor, and now that he has passed on, his last will and testament is to be read. You have all been invited to the funeral, each of you coming for your own reasons. The service is being held in Ravengro.

Hello! And welcome to my recruitment for Carrion Crown! I will be looking for 5 players to run this spoooky woooky campaign for! My character creation guidelines are as follows:

Character Guidelines:

Allowed Races:
Any Core + Aasimar, Catfolk, Ifrit, Nagaji, Oread, Samsaran, Sylph, Tengu, Tiefling, Undine, Vishkanya, Changling

Allowed Classes:
NO Gunslingers or Summoners
I am also allowing the Advanced class guide classes.

Build Guidelines:
Allowed materials:
Core Rulebook, APG, UC, UM, UE, and the Players guide for CC.
20 point buy
Level 1
HP: roll or go PFS-style. Your choice at character creation. Choose wisely. Max to start with though.
2 Traits
1 Campaign trait
Average starting gold
No drawbacks

Alignment Restrictions:
Any, but Chaotic Evil

Feats:
I’m banning the Leadership feat. You’ll be getting enough followers as it is throughout the campaign.

Antagonize is allowed – but only the Diplomacy function. The Intimidate function is more than a little messed up.

Crafting feats are encouraged. It’ll be difficult to get the exact magical gear you want otherwise – at least for the first several levels.

Backstory is required, but it can be as long/short as you want. I don't require a novel, but if you want to write me one, that's fine.

Campaign Traits:

Chance Savior:
Fate smiled on you and Professor Lorrimor one day in the not so distant past. Through a matter of pure chance, you were in a position to save the late scholar’s life and did so. His gratitude was effusive,
and he promised that he would never forget you. You are unsure of the nature of the summons in his will, but believe he may have listed you as a possible heir in thanks for saving him from an untimely demise. Your ability to think quickly on your feet has stayed with you, and you quite often feel that you’re in the right place at the right time. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks.

Subject of Study: Professor Lorrimor approached you as part of his studies, as he had heard that you had survived a recent encounter with a strange monster or had another fateful encounter. Interested in the conditions of the run in and the means by which you avoided death or injury, he met with you and maintained frequent correspondence until several months ago. The scars of your experience and his continual reminders of the encounter prompted you to hone your skills lest you someday face the same type of creature again. The professor assisted you in this endeavor, providing you with insight into the anatomy and defenses of the creature that attacked you. Years of study have improved your combat effectiveness against your chosen foe. Choose a non-humanoid creature type (and subtype if outsider). You gain a +1 bonus on damage rolls against creatures of this type. See the ranger favored enemy suggestions for a list of creature types most likely to appear in this campaign.

Inspired by Greatness: Whether you knew Professor Lorrimor well or only in passing, as a colleague or competitor, his career and lifetime of discovery inspired you to be better at what you do. As you honed your craft, you and the professor corresponded, and he was delighted to hear that he had directly or indirectly motivated you to strive for your full potential. Saddened by the news of his death, you feel that you should honor his memory by fulfilling his final wishes and attending his funeral, and by ever striving to attain greater heights and someday match the influence and impact of your idol.
Choose one spell you can cast. From now on, you always
cast this spell at +1 caster level.

Making Good on Promises: At some point in the past, Professor Lorrimor did you a favor under the condition that he would someday call on you to repay it. After he came to your aid, however, you never saw nor heard from him again, leaving you with a sense of unending anticipation that each day might be the day you were asked to return
the favor. Yet that day never came, and your fears and anxiety about what the professor would call on you to do abated. Assuming the old man had either forgotten about you or died, you eventually assumed you’d never have to follow through on your end of the bargain. When you
received word of the professor’s death, and that he had named you specifically in his will, your dread of what he could possibly want from you has grown throughout your entire journey to Ravengro.
Years of living with the fear and uncertainty of the unclaimed debt to Professor Lorrimor have inured you to extreme anxiety. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saves against fear effects.

On the Payroll: Whether he needed a bodyguard in a rough neighborhood, a guide to an isolated archeological dig, or information on a specialized topic, Professor Lorrimor was never shy about hiring professionals to help him attain his goals. Over the course of his long
career, thousands of people throughout the world served his needs and benefited from his generous wages (usually covered by his academic benefactor at the time). He had contacts in most areas of expertise in every corner of the known world, a knack for recognizing talent, and a desire to be surrounded by the best and brightest at all times.
Whatever job the professor originally hired you for, your performance captured his attention, and he hired you many times throughout your career, sometimes even for jobs away from your home, always paying your expenses and compensating you well for your time. In your area of expertise, you are among the best.
Your years of hard work have paid off, granting you an additional 150 gp in starting wealth.

Teacher’s Pet: Professor Lorrimor traveled the Inner Sea region lecturing and teaching at universities in locations as far-f lung as Manaket and Magnimar, and as different in scope as the bardic colleges of Taldor and the battle colleges of the River Kingdoms. Speaking before
standing-room-only lecture halls on topics as widely ranging as military strategy, planar anomalies, theology, and agriculture, Lorrimor’s time was highly valued among those ambitious to benefit from his expertise.
Despite this, he still managed to provide one-on-one assistance to the most promising of his acolytes. When he saw the potential for greatness in one of his charges, he took it upon himself to nurture their spark. You were such a student. Over the course of several months, you
and the late professor spent hours debating the finer points of your topic of interest, and the intellectual doors he opened for you continue to flavor your outlook on the world.
You gain a +2 trait bonus to one Knowledge skill of your choosing and consider it a class skill.

About Me:

I am fairly new to PbP Gming, but have been GMing for a while now. I have one other campaign that has been going smoothly for a while. Just like everyone, I have life come and kick me in the butt sometimes, but I keep my players well informed of those times and, if it requires a short hiatus, I get on and update regularly. I am roleplay heavy, rules light GM, but I know what Im doing for the most part. If I get something wrong, call me out on it nicely! I love learning and am still a technical baby GM.

All of that being said, if you are interested post your submissions and I will go over them! (thats how this works, right?) ;) I like people in my campaigns to post once a day, and once a weekend, but the weekend isnt required. I know that people like to do things like church and picnics on the weekends and just kind of veg. I do, too! Thanks for your interest!

I just need to edit some of his "now" section and his trait out for one campaign trait and he's done.

So, I submit to you, Lord Charles Iridian Bloodgrave.

Originally made for this campaign he never made it, and so I played him in a RotRL campaign for a tiny length of time.

Let me know what you think. :)

The only sections to read regarding him are his "appearance" and "personality" sections in this profile.

Thanks for the consideration and I'll get right onto the campaign trait.

@Lord Charles: First glance looks fine. :)

Interested. I think I'd like to submit a Vivisectionist Alchemist. A creepy medical professional of ill repute.

Hmm as you're opening up evil alignments LE might be an option.

"Sacrifices in the name of science are a necesary evil..."

@Alex: I like it! Creepy, just like the campaign!

I also reccomend getting the Players Guide for Carrion Crown, just so you know some useful info.

Is the ARG allowed? I don't see it under list of allowed ressources but all kinds of ARG races are allowed.

I'm currently debating between Elf and Tiefling for Race and knowing which options are availble for these races would weigh into that decision.

Yes. ARG is allowed. :)
Any Core + Aasimar, Catfolk, Ifrit, Nagaji, Oread, Samsaran, Sylph, Tengu, Tiefling, Undine, Vishkanya, Changling are allowed.

Presenting!

Let me know if there is anything I've missed in the background or sheet, Whispers.

I have tried playing this character through several Carrion Crowns...

Something always seems to happen.
:(

Hmm does the fast drinker trait apply to an Alchemists extracts? Says they are imbibed as drinking a potion. But that would probably be too good.

Sorry for all the question. On a midnight charbuilding mission...

@Ysmerelda: Interesting backstory! Where are you trying to go with your character?

@Alex: EDIT: It doesnt work that way, sorry. I think of alchemist's extracts as spells, so that would be two spells per round. Sorry!

Liberty's Edge

I wanna play Carrion Crown sooo bad...I'll come up with a character... changeling, maybe... hmmm... need to work out a class...

Shaman?

Whispers Through The Snow wrote:
@Ysmerelda: Interesting backstory! Where are you trying to go with your character?

.

Not entirely certain what you mean by 'go with'... When the CC Player's Guide originally came out it mentioned Changelings as a possible thematically appropriate Character Race, so I looked to find more about them & kind of fell in love, particularly with the idea of one caught between knowing just enough about the 'birds & the bees' of her own conception to have it affect/warp her feelings about sexuality & relationships, but at the same time have the stereotypical 'teen girl romantic fantasy' about love/romance & relationships.
Then, to combine that with the kind of 'purple prose'/'Hammer Horror' pastiche that Carrion Crown is kind of known for...

Not certain if that answered your question or not.

Ok, it definitely was an answer. Just not certain if it was a helpful answer...

To put it another way, I loved the Ravenloft Setting (particularly the third ed./3.5 material that White Wolf published under their Arthaus label) & Ustalav has struck me as kind of Pathfinder/Golarion's take on the 'Gothic Horror' genre & I wanted a kind of 'Gothic Heroine' with a twist.

edit: If you are talking mechanically/level progression, I was intending for her to stay Paladin.

Liberty's Edge

Ugh...already a changeling submitted... OK...not a changeling... hmmm... assimar, maybe...

@Ysmerelda: Answers my questions, thank you!

@all: I'm headed to bed guys! See you tomorrow...?

I would like to submit Cayen Telva for your consideration.

@Eldon: Nope, you were right the first time, Ysmerelda is a Changeling...

Oh wait, you were meaning you would submit an Aasimar!

I think you should go ahead & make another Changeling, maybe we can get all Changelings! That could be fun!

I think I'mma go to sleep now too...

Liberty's Edge

Right now, I'm thinking a N aasimar scion of humanity shaman in denial of his holier side...maybe taking nature spirit...maybe life...

Dark Archive

reading Prince of Wolves and i am getting for the ustalav atmosphere.

will be submitting a human oracle.

I'd like to submit, will level down from 2

I'd like to submit Dr. Alderly. As with a few of the other folks here, he was in a (very) short-lived other Carrion Crown PbP. I liked the character, and would love an opportunity to bring him back for another go.

Interested, oh yes indeed. I'm thinking a sorceress. I'll put the character up soon.

I'd like to throw in my hat as well if possible. I've had a witch idea floating through my head for some time but it appears there are already a few arcane casters... I'll think on it tonight and see what the morning brings.

Vigilance Hall is a quiet, studious man with a stick up his ass. He is serious, obnoxious in his inability to understand emotional attachments, and quite frankly no fun to be around. On the other hand, he is loyal, intelligent, and will stop at nothing to thwart what he sees as injustice.

(His background and stat block are in his profile, and I hope to be chosen. I hope you're okay with the choice of investigator class. I got excited when your post mentioned the advanced class guide.)

Adjusted to level 1

Wow, the server has been down for a while! Im attempting to semi audit your characters, but in the meantime, I will open Discussion for the RP Tavern.... Only this time, ITS HAUNTED!!!!!! hehe

@Vigilance: Looking good so far, you can hop into the discussion for some awesome RP.
@Rhia: You look good! You may jump into the creepy creaking tavern!
@Dr. Aderly: You are also invited to the shindig at the creepy creaking Tavern!
@Cayen: Your ability scores seem a little too high for a 20 point buy, by more than 3X. Besides that, you may go into the creepy creaking tavern.
@Ysmerelda: You are good as well, jump on over into creepy land!

This is the list I have so far.

1. Vigilance Teifling Investigator
2. Rhia Human Oricle(Ansestors)
3. Dr. Aderly Human Wizard
4. Cayen Telva Elven Magus
5. Ysmerelda, Dawns Rose Changeling Paladin

And several that are coming up with characters. Am I missing anyone?

Interested will make up an aasimar cleric of Iomedae.

Odd my submission post got eaten over night. Had to rewrite the whole fluff.

Anyways meet Professor Zadrol Taladia Elven Vivisectionist Alcheimst and ruthless scholar.

Background:

Zadrol hails from Molthune, his father and mother also being academics it was only logical for him to follow in their footsteps. Particularly the study of anatomy has been the focus of Zandrol’s studies and specifically the racial interchangeability of organs.
As his practices were continually frowned upon in Molthune Zadrol chose to Leibstedt where there existed a more open minded spirit on the nescesity of research and a great treasure of knowledge in his filed in the royal library.
It was here that Zadrol met Professor Lorimmor and established a working relationship. While guided by different motives the two shared similar interests and Lorimmor was pragmatic enough to overlook some of the Elf’s cruder methods of acquiring objects for research. However their professional and personal relationship broke down rather abruptly when Zadrol used findings from an expedition funded by the Professor to secure a career move to a permanent appointment as Professor at the faculty in Leibenstedt. For years Zadrol had lived in fear of Lorimor calling him out on this but it appears that nature had done him a favor in taking Lorimor before his time had come.

Personality:

The professor very much adheres to the stereotype of Elven arrogance and haughtiness. His academic mannerism of speaking in complex and lightning quick sentences only undermines this appearance to most people. Over the years he has learned a myriad number of languages, which he commands perfectly and uses interchangeably as appropriate for academic discourse.
The few people that call Zadrol a friend describe him as determined; most colleagues would describe him as ruthless whereas his enemies know him as backstabbing and conniving. The advancement of science to him stands over everything and he will go out of his way to further his aim. His thirst for knowledge has made him quite the explorer as knowledge lies not only in university libraries but oftentimes also found in ruins and forgotten vaults.
Zadrol values professional relationship and places a high priority on correctness, reliability and competence in interpersonal interactions. Good manners and correctness aside a cool façade ensures that people value cooperation with Zadrol and he can find ways for others to be useful to him.
Behind a cool and calculating façade however burns a desire to learn as Zadrol believes that by expanding the understanding of the functioning of body and mind the life of people can be greatly enhanced and the suffering of many could be greatly reduced. Sacrifices to further this aim are only logical in his mind.

Appearance:

Zadrol is a wiry Elf with long dark hair, even darker eyes and pale skin. His slender face often wears an earnest expression and he rarely finds the time to smile.

He prefers to garb himself in black pants and a black vest over a fine white silken shirt, but when out exploring prefers to wear a black harnish of sturdy leather adorned by wiked looking spikes.
His favorite dark grey mantle adds to his overall gloomy appearance.

So... everything we posted yesterday got deleted by the server (including changes to character profile it seems...)... XD

Here we go Again: I present Lauran Jalar, Inquisitrix of Iomeade.

Description and BG are presented in her profile

Silver Crusade

Dotting, will submit aHellknight/Paladin soon.

See you have 5 already. Would it be too late for a character submission?

Grand Lodge

I may have missed the deadline for this, but I'd like to present Detective Inspector Dresen Cale. Though I don't currently have his background up on here, he is a middle-aged (if GM allows) retired Pathfinder-turned-detective with the Sleepless Agency in Ustalav and a member of one of Ustalav's now-defunct noble houses.

In his younger days, he was a sent off to join the Pathfinders after getting into trouble as a boy (family ships troublemaker son to military camp) where he served for several years before retiring. Now he's just a grumpy old sleuth of a man trying to keep going in the world. Due to his experience, he has money saved up and from what he has left of his part of the family fortune (hence the traits).

He's not much of a fighter and prefers to talk his way out of sticky situations.

Side note: I built this character before the ACG came out with the investigator. It's a similar concept, but I'd rather not use an unrevised class for my concepts.

I ran this campaign from start to finish, but I would like to play in it as well. I do keep my knowledge out of my playing style, but if you do not feel comfortable with it, I understand.

So for consideration, Angus Walker.

Background:
A graduate of the prestigious Lepidstadt University and favorite student of The Professor, Angus is also among the most skilled swordsmen in the city. Having dueled in the hills he has several "lepidstadt scars" on his face, mostly due to his aggressive focus on Step one, attack first, followed by step two, repeat step one.

Angus is driven and loyal, he seeks to become a world renown fencer and always stands to the aid of his allies and friends. First into a fight he is also last out and will not surrender to any odds if his friends are in trouble. Honorable in a duel he follows the strict code he learned at University, but in a true battle he will do anything needed to protect his friends and win the fight.

He wears his heart on his sleeve, gives freely to those in need, stands to for those that can not, and lives freely in the moment.

The deeds of the day matter, we can address the needs of tomorrow then.

Shadow Lodge

Doting for interest. Will start working on a character.

Dotting. Thinking about making a Samsaian Dirge Bard.

D'oh! I just re-read the Character creation guidelines, Whispers. When you wrote 2 traits, 1 Campaign trait; did you mean two traits, one of which was to be a Campaign trait, or two traits & a Campaign trait? I currently have her written up as the former, but I can probably figure out another trait if it was the latter.

Silver Crusade

Since you also allow alignments up to NE, what is your stance on paladins in the party ?

My character is LE he would have no problem of working with a Paladin as long as that Paladin can avert his attention from time to time.

Wow, this is the first time I've been able to access the forum in 3 days. Really hoping Charles makes it into this, so expect fully edited build in an hour or so! :)

Edit: And yes, you were missing me. :p

Consider that done. No problems with LE, the "gentlemanly evil" alignnment.

OK, I still have a lot to do on him, but this is the bare bones of Arian Snowbird, an aasimar shaman with an albino hawk familiar...

Here is my character for review. This will be my first play by post game so bear with me if i don't get things right.

backstory:
Faulkner was found in his late teens half dead on the side of a road. He was brought to Professor Lorrimor, still a young man at this time for both physical and mental healing. During his treatment the Professor discovered that he was sort of a mascot for a group of Hobgolbins who religiously disfigured the Half Elfs face and body. Faulkner does not remember how he escaped but with the help of the professor went back out into the wilds to hunt the beasts who he believes butchered his family and treated him so harshly.

He always wrote back to the Professor after his hunts to tell him new things he discovered about the goblins and there society. Replies were frequent up until the message he received letting him know about the old man’s death. Making it his only concern with a sad heart he made way to Ravengro to say his goodbyes to the only person he felt connected to.

Dark Archive

Here's my entry:

Background:
Little is known about Phessan Terelis’s life before he came to the River Kingdoms, except that he was either exiled from Kyonin or escaped execution for a small number of murders there. After his move, however, he gained a small bit of infamy as an elf who would be more than happy to steal from, kidnap, or stab someone for a few silvers. He eventually came to be called ‘Fester’, which was taken from the first sound of each of his names.

Fester drifted around the River Kingdoms for a decade, working with a series of river pirate crews, thieves’ guilds, bounty hunters, and bandits. His involvement with these groups was generally amicable, and Fester became a go to thug and hit man. Occasionally someone within one of these groups would try to betray Fester, which always ended with figurative burned bridges and literal dead bodies.

Fester is invited to the funeral because he unintentionally saved Professor Lorrimor from a mugger in Sevenarches. The mugger had shorted Fester on his share of a heist and the elf dealt with it the only way he cared to: a knife to the kidney, the throat, the heart, and maybe a few other places. Nevertheless, Prof. Lorrimor was very appreciative of the elf’s help, though somewhat confused and disquieted by his zeal for stabbing. Fester’s always on the move and, figuring he may get some sort of inheritance or reward out of the old man, was more than happy to attend the funeral upon hearing about it.

Personality:
Self-interest and arrogance are Fester’s primary character traits. He’s fine working with a group or alone, as long as his personal interests are being met. He won’t betray colleagues, but if they should betray him, only their deaths will fulfill his need for vengeance. Fester tends to think everything through, due to his weak intuition, and thinks his plans, or those he contributes to, are always the best. He can be hard to work with at times because he values his own contributions so highly, but if others appeal to him with logic and reason, he can usually be brought around to their side. While Fester greatly enjoys using his knives, he will choose a nonviolent, or even benevolent, course of action if it is the most expedient way to realize his own ambitions.

Appearance:
Fester has long, greasy, black hair and dull blue eyes. His pallid skin bears the scars of dozens of cuts, and usually a bruise or two. He is tall and gaunt, almost looking starved or sickly for an elf of his height. Fester dresses in dark colors, greens, grays, browns, and blues primarily, and wears a dark grey hooded cloak over a worn, dark brown set of studded leather armor. The only bit of color in Fester’s wardrobe is a longish, blood red scarf of Varisian make, it appears to be a family’s Kapenia, but it certainly isn’t Fester’s family. Two bandoliers cross his chest holding 5 throwing knives apiece, and on his belt hang a pair of longer dirks and a sap.

Charles' backstory is all sorted now.

I've given him the Undead Slayer and Birthmark traits, along with the Chance Saviour Campaign Trait.

I've also given him a backstory based around his encounter with Professor Lorrimor, in addition to what I had already written about his Appearance and Personality.

Thank you for the consideration!

I'm sorry, its not clear is it >.> One campaign trait and two traits. :)

Then Charles is finalised. :p

@Phessan: Perlim is good!
@Faulkner Barenlands: You're good to go! You get 3 traits. :3
@ Detective Inspector Dresen Cale: I believe you have a 25pt buy there. Besides that, preliminary's good!
@Angus Walker: You're good to go as well!
@Arian Snowbird: You're also good. Do get me a stat sheet and such soon. :)
@Nelith: You've shorted yourself 5 points, my tiefling friend!
@Lord Charles: You're good to go with the preliminary.
@n o 417: It really depends on player and character attitudes. I have no problem with LE or NE with a paladin, as long as the players can work something out. It's not really a question of how I will deal with it at first, its more of a player thing, imo.

Everyone, after you finish your revisions, are welcome to have a drink on the spooky house over at the creepy creaking tavern :)

Wait, so 3 all together? Whoops. I'll add Child of the Temple +1 Knowledge (Religion)/(Royalty) to Vigilance since it fits the best.
