I am thinking of dropping out of this game, here's why

I thought we were exploring the underdark, looking for keys to open a mysterious vault, got clues about some lost band of heroes, that sort of thing

Now we are gathering evidence to bring against a powerful man who may have murdered his nephew

One of these games is the kind of game I want to play, the other is not.

So, I'm really going to have to think about this

Hmm, the whole mayor wycheck thing is mostly just a sidequest to help you gain a bit more experience. You actually need to go explore a new section of the underdark in order to do it and it brings you closer to finding the vault.


As a note you should try to get more information about those lost heroes. Lord kyle was talking about them when he got shot and Freya and Crus have both met them.


Actually lets have a quick refresher what do you remember that you discovered about the heroes and the vault so far?

They went in before us and found a few keys but were lost en route to another. They killed a vampire to obtain one of their keys.

I think some reference to a bird of prey was mentioned, not too sure.


The birds of prey is the name of the group.

You also found a journal on the body of a member of the birds of prey (their wizard) that mentioned them being ambushed after killing the vampire.


There is also an orc invasion building up although this is also relevant.

why it's relevant:
The chieftain of the orcs has one of the keys


But yes the best way to look at this adventure is like a sandbox game. Events are happening and what you do about is entirely up to you.

You can ignore the whole lord kyle thing if you want and focus entirely on the vault.

I'm very much looking forward to getting back to exploring the underground and finding the keys, but considering the spoiler we'll have to face this orc chieftain in order to progress.

Also, it seems like lord Kyle can give us more info if we revive him. So far we don't have a lot of other leads.

I've thought about this long and hard because I've never bailed on a game before, but it's probably pretty obvious that my heart hasn't been in this game for a while now. Work and other RL stuff is picking up, and I have to drop one of my games and this one is the logical target. I'm sorry I have to bail on you guys mid-dungeon, but there it is.

Do let me know how you feel about the adventure so far this is a play-test of a work in progress really. I have already made a few changes for next time.

The idea is to have a sandbox adventurer and to just have the pc's go about and do what they want. There are dozens of quest and side-quest available with the ultimate goal to get the keys to open the vault.

The vault being a dungeon I took from an old adventure from 2.0 and modified for pathfinder. Since the vault is designed for a level 14 party I need to keep the group entertained for quite a while exploring the region particularly the underdark and finding clues as to what happened to the last group the birds of prey who vanished going after the vault two years ago.

What do the rest of you think?

I like the adventure a lot so far, but I wonder how long it'll take us to reach level 14. It's taken a real year for the players to reach level 3, and it's only now that we get closer to the first key. That means if we continue with a pace of 2 levels a year it'll take us 5.5 real years to reach level 14.

With enough quests, side quests, and other things to discover I don't mind that much, because I'm having fun. Though I can imagine the ultimate goal's too far away for many players. Wags is the only one left from the original party formation, and the formation will probably experience a lot more changes during those years.


This is true play by post does go at a much slower pace. I started worldwound months ago on here and the party is now level 5 and at the end of part 1 and in a couple session in RL my friends are already further than they are. They are level 7 and well into part 2.

I will try to quicken the pace pretty soon you should be level 5 by the time you finish this dungeon.

That was a requirement? I thought we were on our way to our new asylum.

The most important thing is probably some familiarity with the story. We're searching for 3 keys to open a hidden vault. We're currently on a quest to revive a dead lord. He was shot while we were with him, but his uncle doesn't give permission for a resurrection. So we're trying to find a way to make him give permission. A wizard then sent us to an old temple in the underdark.

Underdark = lots of dangerous places underground that are all connected.
