Isador blinks the stinging tears from his eyes just in time to witness Caloilte's axe cleave the arm from the lizard man. He swings his bow towards the other assailant and attempts another shot.

The bile starts to rise again and he feels his stomach urging him to expel the contents in a violent manner.

He shakes his head trying to clear his eyes before releasing the bow string.

Not completely unforseen, but disappointing none-the-less, Eloriand sees himself having to make the tough call in regard the blue lizard .....

Brew:
Eloriand would really hate to put the little blue guy down. Are there any other obvious choices that Eloriand would know about besides destroying it? If not, Eloriand will likely try to put it down with his bow. I thought maybe if the lizard was not directly threatened it might let us be, but a wild animal is a wild animal.

In case it makes a difference... I forgot to add my +1 strength bonus to my arrow damage.

Eloriand staggers over to the blue lizard currently engaged in shocking Havelock. He draws his blade and attempts to knock the little sparker unconscious. He barely misses the scampering little bugger, no doubt due to his sickened state.

Eloriand, strands of hair struggling to stick straight up in the air, clumsily flails at the sparkign lizard, his efforts to keep his breakfast from seeing the light of day taking a toll on his attack. He misses the lizard.

The little blue lizard, now fully agitated by the combat, crouches down and bares its tiny little teeth at Havelock as it charges up another shock. His tail pints straight up, electrical current visibly arcing around the appendage. The lizard points the tail directly at Havelock, whose eyes go wide in unpleasant anticipation. The lizard discharges the pent up energy directly at Havelock. At the last moment, Havelock is able to turn away from the lizard, softening the shock. Blue arcing electricity once again dances across Havelock's armor, causing his teeth to grit involuntarily as the shock travels through him into the ground. Havelock takes an additional 3 points non lethal damage.

Isador, still fighting through sever bouts of nausea, is able to fire off another shot and manages to wing the remaining trog.

Tarek takes another mighty swing at the walking lizard, but misses the target.

Caoilte swings his axe, but misses the trog. Kat takes another shot but is unable to draw a bead on the surprisingly nimble creature and her shot fires wide.

The remaining trog fights on! It takes a 5-foot step to the south then renews its attack on Caoilte. The walking reptile clubs, claws and bits at Caoilte, but all attacks bounce harmlessly off Caoilte's armor.

On to round 3.

GM Rolls:

Eloriand attk: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 Based on your post, I interpreted it to mean Eloriand would attempt to subdue the lizard using non lethal damage. Eloriand takes a -4 penalty on top of his -2 due to vomit, netting him a -2 when AB factored in. With all that, he missed by 1.

Eloriand makes a desperate attempt to subdue the feisty electrical lizard, but he is too weakened to be effective. His attempt to subdue misses the agile little thing.

Havelock, his nausea being set aside because of numerous shocks to his system, charges his short sword with blue arcane power and swings teh blade at the pesky shocker. He nicks it, drawing blood and enraging the creature further.

The lizard bares its teeth to Havelock. Its little body rocks back and it holds itseslf there as the energy generated from its body gathers. It lets it loose against Havelock with a tiny grunt. The electricity shoots from its tiny body in an arc and quickly wraps itself around Havelock. The crackling blue energy coils around and around Havelock, causing his head to rapidly shake up and down and making his cry of pain stutter. Havelock blinks once, then his eyes roll back into his head as he falls over in a smoking heap. Havelock is now unconscious. Havelock failed his REF save and takes 7 points of non lethal damage which exceeds his damage threshold. He is not dying, merely unconscious.

The nausea finally gets the better of Isador whose latest shot misses the trog badly.

Tarek again swings his mighty hammer, coming close to striking the fierce lizard creature, but missing him yet again.

Caoilte takes advantage of Tarek's near miss and catches the thing with his ax as it dodges Tarek, severing its head in a loud thwak!

Tarek peeks in the adjoining room and sees what appears to be a crude armory. Racks for weapons line the walls of this chamber; above the racks hang various shields, pieces of armor, weapons, and standards on display. Most of the racks are empty, but a few weapons remain in place. A horrible stench fills the room as well, akin to the smell of rotten eggs mixed with the reek of an open sewer.

Isador shakes his head trying to clear his senses and follows Eloriand out to the open air.

Eloriand can stand the stench and close quarters no longer, he heads for the fresher air of the entry point. As the lizard is still a combatant at the start of your action, I assumed Eloriand used the withdraw action to leave combat safely.

The lizard, having felled Havelock, senses the danger the remainder of the party represents and scurries out the south door. It ignores Eloriand and heads straight for the breach, climbing out of the hole and climbing the tower. It disappears from view.

Isador follows Eloriand outside, hoping a dose of fresh air will help his sickened condition.

Tarek races to Havelock's aid after quickly shutting the western door. He immediately is able to tell Havelock is not injured severely. The jolts of the shocker lizard effectively stunning the magus. Tarek channels positive energy into Havelock. The energy instantly revives Havelock who sits up suddenly taking in a deep breath.

Kat and Caoilte take a breather as the action subsides, for now. Caoilte is able to shake off the temporary stunning sting from his earlier jolt from the shocker lizard. Caoilte has completely healed his non lethal damage from the lizard.

Seeing no immediate danger Kat drops her pack and rummages around for her spare clothes. With deft fingers and improvised tools she undoes the stitching of one of the long sleeves, pours just enough water from her skein to wet a patch in the middle and ties it behind her head so that the watered cloth covers her mouth and nose, helping to reduce the amount of stench she is assaulted with. Once she finishes that she carefully puts everything back and slips the pack back on.

Set, she tries to slip into whatever available shadows she can find and goes to the West door the trogs came from. The red examines the door for any immediate trouble the opens the door enough to go through and slips inside, alert for danger and ready to react to fight or flight instincts depending on what she finds inside while the others recover in fresh air.

Actions:

I doubt the improvised mask will truly affect any fort save, but it can't hurt.

Perhaps we should all regroup back at the entrance and let the fresh air clear our minds. It may be wise to allow this sickness, that some of us are experiencing, to subside

Tarek slaps Havelockk on the shoulder Time to get up, nap time is over. He smiles slightly and heads in the direction of Eloriand and Isador

Tarek walks back into the first room they entered on this level. He removes his pack and begins to rummage inside. After a few moments, he produces two small candles. With the snap of his fingers he causes the wick to ignite on one of the candles and begins using it to soften the other.

Tarek begins to speak to the group as he goes about his task There was a foul odor in the other room that was more potent than the lizard's, because I could smell it above their stench. I am unsure if there are more lizards inside, but it smells like there could be. I did notice a cache of weapons in the room before closing the door. Perhaps there may be some items of use to us.

Tarek begins to break off a small piece of softened wax from the candle This may seem odd to the rest of you, but I plan on making some nose plugs with some of the wax I have. I may have enough for all of you if you are interested? I thought if I could block the stench then perhaps it would avoid any future bouts of nausea. I will let you know if I can get this to work Tarek attempts to shape the wax into a form to block his nasal passages.

dm:
Tarek will attempt to make plugs for his nose. he uses spark to ignite the wick. I assume after a few tries that it should ignite. If he is not successful at the attempt then he will abandon the idea. He has a total of three candles in his pack. I do not know how many it would take for the group. How many more levels do we think are left in the tower?

Grand Lodge

Agreed, Tarek. Moving out into the fresh air should help quite a bit. Caoilte looks at his armor. Spider guts and now this horrible smelling blood. Axes. An excellent weapon designed to take all the stuff inside of an enemy and put it outside of an enemy. The problem is I find that stuff gets put on me. Caoilte, digs his cloak out of his pack and cuts a strip off the hem. Wax might work but I’ll just use this strip of cloth.
Coailte then looks at the group. What am I missing about the lizard? He harmed the group worse than the trogs did but there was a hesitancy to kill it. I don’t understand. Once he attacked Havelockk the lizard became an enemy. Even after Havelockk was taken down by the lizard there was no attack on it. I’m trying to understand, is this what I can expect when danger is at my back, the coddling of reptiles?

Tarek looks to Caoilte It seems things do go well when you make yourself the object of the creatures affections....well maybe not for your armor, but the rest of us it seems to work. I don't know how many more levels there may be in this tower, but I have an idea for at least one of the levels above.

Tarek continues to try to get the right amount of wax together I can create an intense light on your shield that should last long enough to search an entire level, but I am not sure if it will last long enough if there are multiple levels. I think I could give you about 10 minutes of time. It is far brighter than a torch or lamp...Tarek looks out through the breach to the sky..in fact, it should brighten the room as if you were standing out in the midday sun. We could cover your shield with a cloak to block the light before entering the next level. It seems some of these rooms are fairly dark and if we can surprise something with the intense light, it just may give us a few moments to act before anything can react. Either that or it will work like bugs to the flame and everything will come running directly for you. If it is an option you wish to try, just let me know when you are ready.

Search the bodies? I don’t know, but Kat went that way a few minutes ago. There’s an armory in there that Tarek and I are about to look at. And be careful, that little blue lizard is still on the loose.

Tarek and Caoilte, now knowing it is safe, examine the armory as Kat continues to scout. Tarek and Caoilte are able to tell that there is likely some other items of value in this room, but lack the skill to make any meaningful distinctions. Tarek suggests to return to the room with a skilled appraiser if they get the opportunity. The party does nto detect any magical auras coming from any of the weapons in the armory, most of the weapons are broken and unusable.

Kat examines then opens the southern door. Before she steps into the room, she deftly spies a tripwire across the threshold into the southern room. Following the line, she discovers that the trogs have set up a crude spring trap designed to launch a javelin at whomever trips the wire. The room is otherwise empty an nondescript. This octagonal room is covered in a fine layer of dust. It’s clearly been abandoned for a long time. Kat, contemplating whether to risk disrmign the trap given there is nothing of value in the next room, goes on to inspect the door to the central chamber. She locates no traps and cautiously opens the door. In the central shaft is a continuation of the stairwell from the level below, though this portion of the stairwell appears unblocked and should provide access to the floor above.

Glad to see Havelockk recovering, Eloriand tidy's himself up a bit after the nauseating incident and is interested in seeing what the other have found in the next room.

......after harvesting my crops I find myself in the company not one but two lovely ladies....one would look very similar to a woman with short length raven colored hair and dazzling blue eyes by the name of Seline.....the other a rather tall thin blond haired, green eyes girl by the name of Candice....perhaps this electricity thing is not so bad after all while my compatriots do all the work...but while I think of this.....I find myself in a strange carriage....falling backwards off a bridge....while I am also on a mountain...rushing down on rapidly through the snow on some of wooden board that rapidly moves me while a horde of goblins are in pursuit...shooting crossbow bolts at me....

For Kat :

The stairway is dark, and Kat cannot see much in the darkness. She skulks near the wall and blindly walks up the stairwell paying close attention to any sounds or other hints of possible danger. She reaches the third level and finds a a single door to the wast. She presses her ear to the door to listen. Stillness answers her query, though it is broken at times by sounds of movement. Heavy steps, something dragging perhaps. She tries the door and discovers it is locked. Kat breaks out her thieves' kit and after examining the door for traps, attempts to work the lock. She is able to work a few of the tumblers but runs into a snag and is unable to open the lock. The red elf returns to the party to make her report.

Kat skulks her way back down the stairs and heads towards the armory, fairly certain that she would find at least Caoilte there rummaging.

Stairwell itself seems clean, the door is locked and I was unable to finesse all of the tumblers; though I did only try once. It sounds like there is company on the other side; heavy stepping sounds so probably something bulky if not large on the other side.

We should probably see if we can roust Havelockk from his electroshock nap and see if Izzy can charm the tumbler I could not.

Depending on whether or not Izzy can succeed I am of two minds about how to proceed. If Izzy can get the door open there is a possibility of traps set for either the moment the door opens or just a bit inside. In which case either Izzy or myself should take point to locate and try to disarm the trap if there is one.

On the other hand, we are going to be uninvited guests and I doubt that we will receive a warm reception. So it would be better for bruisers who can take a hit be ready to bust through the door while yelling 'Happy Birthday'... or 'Surprise'... but 'Happy Birthday' is inane enough that it might cause someone to pause long enough to go 'the hell... oh hey axe'.

Looks like you got work to do, Izzy. What do you think? Finish searching here or go see about Kat's lock. I figure after the three fights and a few bolts of lightning, whatever is up there ain't in a rush to come down and see how we're doing.

Tarek listens to Kat and thinks for a moment. I think the only other way to the upper level is to climb the broken wall again. I think there may have been an opening in the wall to the upper chambers, but I prefer to use the stairs. We can be almost certain that Balenar did not come the way we did, if he came to the tower at all. The footprints Eloriand saw ended at the opening and Balenar may have scampered to the top. The noises you hear may be him searching the rooms for something.

Tarek pauses and scans the room I think we can come back for the items we found once we are sure the upper chamber is clear. If we take the door, I could envelop us in a shroud of mist. It will only be temporary, but it may give us all time to get into the room. The last thing we want is to be stuck in a stairway and try to fight our way in. The downside is if there are any traps, we won't be able to see them. My thinking is that if something is in the room, we may not have the time to avoid the traps anyway

Tarek recalls the limitations of the spell Aside from the short duration, the mist will emanate from me. For it to provide us cover, I may need to be the first or second one to enter the room. All the levels have the basic layout, if we know what direction the sounds are coming from then we may be able to move in without being seen. Just be aware that we need to be sure it is not Balenar before any attack is made. He will be expecting to see me, but he may not recognize any of you.

Isador rolls his head in a slow circular motion trying to relieve the stress caused from his recent bout of nausea.

He lets out a slow breath before turning to Caiolte.

Sure… I can take a crack at the lock but I doubt that I will have much better success than Red especially with the slight tremors still in my fingers.

I think we should at least give the door another try. I prefer the element of surprise when entering a fight… at least when we are the ones doing the surprising.

If I can’t get the door lock to yield, then I kinda like the yelling approach offered by Red although I am bit concerned about the door strength. The last door withstood 3 blows from Caoilte before collapsing.

Turning to look at Terak he quickly shakes his head as he starts to fish out a lockpick from a hidden pocket.

Not a bad idea but I would prefer to avoid climbing the outside wall. I was not too worried climbing to this floor but any higher would mean almost certain death if one of us would slip. And there is no way to ensure the landing is clear from any enemies either.

No, my vote is for the stairs…

Mumbling to himself, he then turns to make his way up the stairwell.

Let’s see about this lock.

From the bottom of the stairs Caoilte quietly converses with Tarek and Kat, and Izzy if he can hear I think I ought to go in first. Whoever does is likely to take the brunt of any nasty surprises and I think I’m best equipped for that. When we go in I’ll move straight forward two to three steps. That’ll allow me to block the door from anything that would attack the doorway while giving you all room to fan out behind me.

Isador confers with Kat regarding the lock she encountered during her scouting trip. He nods then climbs the stairs to inspect the lock himself. Isador removes his tool kit from his back and begins to work the lock. After a few moments, he coaxes the last tumbler loose and successfully unlocks the door.

Nice job Izzy, the red grins, now how about a peek at what's behind the door.

hey folks not sure what the rule is for non lethal damage but I am not tracking that I am not tracking how fast I heal...or healed up I am

OH...man....what the hell happened.....

I walk around...shaken and a bit stirred up.....I stumble and walk around....my body alight with a prickly sensation...sweat on my brow....I walk into the room with all the gear....and look and wonder at the quality of the great before looking at the door that appears...locked while Izzy and Kat seem to be debating about it like to gnomes trying to draft up a siege engine....I nod my thanks to Tarek....and I frown an seeing Caoilte....he looks like a mess and was passed through the lower part of a dragon after after eating the spicy foods of the isles....I stifle a laugh while looking for where Elroriand is at.

oh look another door...and Caoilte....brother...you look like a dragon passed you through as night soil

Isador slinks back down the stairs and joins the group.

The door should be accessible now. Hey Red, thanks for the doing all the hard work on that lock. I was pleased that it only took a couple of pokes to finish it off.

He glances around the group and then back up the stairs.

I think Red should go have a look into the room. She has been quite successful so far and if there are men inside the room, they might be captivated by her feminine wiles.

failing that.. we can always have Caolite just introduce any hostile occupants to the business end of his axe.
