Tarek scans the room quickly to determine a plan of attack Everyone, watch the doors for any unwelcome visitors looking to join in the fun. I will move to the right and keep this foul smelling lizard occupied.

Havelock reaches deep into is arcane...abilities...and launches a long oblong missile at the nearest trog. It slams home with a bang and a powerful hiss, singing lizard skin, causing the creature to cry out in pain, and worsening the smell of the room with burning reptile flesh.

Isador fights through his worsening nausea and fires a shot at one of the trogs, but his condition is too much for him to compensate and he misses the mark.

The southern trog runs at Caoilte, snakelike tongue hanging wildly from its primitive mouth. He swings his club at Caoilte which bounces harmlessly off one of Caoilte's heavily armored shoulders

Eloriand adds numbers to the southern attacking trog, slicing the thing with his sword causing a deep wound to the its side. The trog emits a high pitched howl as blood pours from the wound staining the floor of the chamber.

Kat eyes the battle, waiting for the most opportune type to strike.

The center trog runs at Tarek, shrieking and slobbering as it does so. It swings its club at Tarek, missing the holy man completely.

Tarek returns the gesture and attacks the trog with his hammer, but the attack also misses the slobbering creature.

Caoilte attacks the trog that swung at him, but he misses the surprisingly agile creature.

The northern trog joins his brethren and attacks Tarek in desperation, attempting to club, claw and bite the priest. Tarek's presence is too much for the trog as the attacks merely deflect off the cleric's armor.

Havelock advances, pouring arcane power into his blade and slices at one of the togs attacking Tarek. He stabs the creature below the ribs, a deep strike, causing the trog to stiffen then fall limp as its lifebloods pours out of the wound.

Isador is able to control his nausea and fires an arrow that strikes home on the other trog attacking Tarek. He drives a shaft into the thing's shoulder, but it fights on.

The southern trog, upon seeing his comrade fall, runs to the southern door and opens it, yelling something in a guttural tongue into the next room.

As the trog opens the door, Eloriand stabs the lizard thing in the back, puling the balde free sending a spout of blood shooting from the puncture. The creature ceases its cries and crumbles.

Kat lets fly a hurried shot but misses.

The trog engaged in combat with Tarek withdraws and moves toward the southern door.

Tarek pursues the creature and attempts to smite the trog, but misses. Caoilte also pursues and successfully cuts the creature down.

As the door opens to the south, another powerful stench pours into the room, the stench further weakens Isador and Eloriand and Tarek also become sickened.

Does anyone have another way to contact Havelockk? He did mention about several posts he made not showing up before and I am just curious if he may be having issues again. Just wondering since he has not posted yet.

Havelock, sensing Caoilte's plan, delays his action to assess the new threat.

Isador, once again fighting the heaves, stumbles to a position to fire a shot at the new threat. He sees another trog, unarmed and larger than the ones the party just defeated, standing in the center of the room baring it's fangs and spreading his arms wide as if in a challenge. Izzy snaps off a shot, but is still to nauseous to get a good line on target.

Eloriand follows 'lock's lead and readies himself, still fighting his sickness, for the new threat.

Kat, her hearty constitution easily warding off the stench that sickens those around her, lines up behind Izzy and draws a bead on the big lizard. She manages to clip the thing in the shoulder, causing it to roar in pain and rage.

Tarek throws his mighty hammer but misses his target. The hammer returns to Tarek's outstretched hand in a zip causing the wind to stir as it flies past the trog.

Caoilte, not liking their tactical position with an unknown enemy behind the door, shuts it completely and holds it shut.

The thing beyond the door howls in frustration and attempts to push the door open. Caoilte puts all his wait to the door, but the feral trog is able to force it open and it enters the room in a rage.

Havelock rushes forth to defend the party from the big trog's attack. He takes a swing with his enhanced blade but misses the surprisingly elusive troglodyte.

Isador takes another shot at the thing, but misses, as does Kat, their arrows crashing harmlessly against the chamber wall.

Eloriand steps up and joins the melee, but the trog proves elusive still and dodges the ranger's attack, as it does to both Tarek and Caoilte's attack.

Caoilte sees what amounts for a smile on the trogs face as it presses the attack undaunted by the overwhelming numbers against it. It attacks Caoilte with two claws and a bite, but the attacks bounce harmlessly off Caoilte's not so new armor as it adds claw and teeth marks as well as trog spit to its growing collection of battle trophies.

The trog sstaggers and begins to topple as another arrow hits its shoulder as it topples top the chamber floor, lifesblood seeping into pools from the trog's various wounds.

Searching the fallen trog, the party finds a key on a tether around its neck. After checking for traps or other surprises, the party enters the room that previously housed the fallen trog. A brazier of glowing coals sits in the center of this room, its acrid smoke mixing with the ever-present troglodyte stench. A few knives, pokers, and other metal implements lie atop a rusty iron box nearby.

After checking for traps and checking the lock, the party finds the chest holds no traps and is surprisingly unlocked. Inside the chest, the party finds a suit of masterwork studded leather armor, a masterwork buckler, a masterwork rapier, a shortbow with 15 arrows, a scroll of cure moderate wounds, a scroll of invisibility, a wayfinder and a climber’s kit.

GM Notes:

Tarek, forgot to explain the noseplug effect. Very clever jury rig, but his save was so low that it was not close. The trog stench is supposed to be overpowering so much so that it physically weakens those who come into contact. Though the makeshift prevention certainly does not hurt, such a maneuver would likely be ineffective. I analogize the stench to tear gas, and anything short of a gas mask would not likely stem the effect.

As for the scrolls, the party is able to easily decipher the magical writings between Tarek and Havelock.

These tools remind me of a very unpleasant experience in the Coins when people try to skip out on a debt. They also are used to extract information from people not willing to talk.

Considering that we found a Wayfinder and several scrolls, which are probably not usable by the troglodytes, it seems things did not fare well with Balenar.

Do you think these troglodytes eat their victims? Perhaps we should start looking for a body… or perhaps what is left of it.

Isador moves around the room and tries to identify any secret or hidden doors that would lead to the same part of the tower that is over the room with the bats.

Kat frowns and examines the wayfinder, checking the initials to see if they match the missing man. I get the feeling this does not bode well...

She double checks the room to make sure nothing was missed then moves to examine the North door.

Tarek, does this look like Balenar's gear? Such a fine suit of armor and well crafted rapier could have hardly gone unnoticed.

Hmm, I guess that it is possible that he could have either been forced to discard his gear or was captured. If he was captured then he could have either gotten away from his captors or was taken deeper... I guess it would be higher in this case, hmm... into the tower.

Presuming that the items are indeed his, then I would guess that he prefers to use speed and agility over sheer power which would give him an advantage when trying to escape. The armor, however, means that he either prefers to mask his true dexterity, or prefers to hone another ability instead...

If he was unable to escape and was taken elsewhere, then he is most likely either in some form of jail cell or cage or was taken to whomever is controlling the trogs; whether it be some form of chieftain or someone able to dominate them.

Kat bites her lower lip in thought, When you consider how easily he approached Tarek and managed to convince him to join in exploring this recently opened tower, I would wager that he is the type of person to use a lot of sleight of hand and bluffing in order to get what he wants; a professional con-man. If that is true, then one reason for such little blood on the items could be that he managed to bluff his captors into believing that he is an important and powerful person that their leader could make use of...

This is, of course, all just conjecture and speculation on my part.

It looks like we reached what could be constituted as a barracks, and that is most likely at least one level, possibly two or three, below where the chieftain or ruler would be located... The red mumbles mostly to herself as she tries to remember specifics on trogs including typical living arrangements and their hierarchy.

Tarek addresses Caoilte's question I only met Balenar twice and both times were at the Paunch. I do not recall him carrying any of these items, but I would assume it is his gear. That directional piece you all seem to carry was also in the box. My guess is Balenar would have one as well. Did the society tell you if anyone else was sent ahead of your group?

The chief had a key around his neck. If it was not needed to open this box of valuable items then it must be used to either keep something or someone locked away in another location. Perhaps Balenar still lives and his being held captive. I do not think he would have given up those items freely unless he made some sort of trade with the lizards.

Tarek examines the armor:
is there any damage done to the armor to show if it was recently worn in combat?
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
ok, no more die rolls for Tarek. He will only offer commentary and the occasional spell that requires no roll to succeed

Whether it is Balenar or not, there is a chance that a Pathfinder is in trouble. It isn't likely a Pathfinder would give up there Wayfinder unless under duress. Let us hope the person is still alive.
