The opening is thick with webs but you can clear away the dense material that fills the openings. Hundreds of tiny spiders scurry around frantically. The fissure a rough opening barely 3 foot wide at the cave mouth, but it opens up slightly before it takes a bend to the left. You have filtered light to see that far but unless you move inside the fissure you can see nothing else.

Karnog and the others, you can make out the cave entrance below, near the ruined city. from your point of view it appears as if there are two orcs guarding. It looks about a mile off and the there is a killing field leading to the cave.

Kalim how is your HP status? Did you use any healing potions, in addition to those second wind heals?

As you move inside the fissure it is a tight fit, but fortunately, you are not burdened with bulky armor. The candlelight flickers and you can see the bend leads through a descending "S" pattern, which makes it hard to see further than 15 feet ahead. You come across another dense spider web area that burns away with an oily smoke when you touch it with your candle flame. Hundreds of tiny spider drop to the ground charred.

Are you continuing?

Looking for a way to get at the orcs which does not include crossing a mile-wide killing field. Any way to flank, sweep, etc around would be grand.

Desmond after scouting the area you mange to find a small path that leads down near the ruins, but unfortunately you'll still have 50 feet or so to cross of open terrain. You did not find any stragglers. You do report that you only observed two brute orcs standing ready with polearms and bows.

Kalim when you get get to the bend and burn away the webbing, you observe that the cave takes a step descent for another 20 feet, or so, and it dead ends to what appears to be a hole in the ground. What are you going to do...proceed towards the hole?

"Fifty feet? Perhaps a thrown rock or some similar distraction could buy us enough time to engage. I wish I held onto that silence spell now."

One of the guards wonders out roughly 40 feet, he jams the end of his polearm into the ground, and then drops his britches. This is followed by a squat. He is roughly 20 feet from your hiding position.

Correct Malcolm. There was a 50 foot open terrain and killing field, then you all have are roughly 10 additional feet between the open area and your hiding and observing post.

Kalim you get on yoru hands and knees at the edge of the opening and peer over the side inot utter darkness. There is a cool damp breeze as an updraft. Attacked to the pits wall are a series of wooden planks spiked into the rock. You begin to descend...
