Season of Ghosts

Confident that you've found all the evidence there is to find, you all gather everything up and carefully make your way back out of the attic and down to the first floor. A curious Tsura (and Tamas) await you, eager to hear of what you've learned. When the group explains to her about the trap that had been set and is still set, she pales.

"Gods above, it's a wonder no one's tripped it yet and made the whole building come down on our heads!" She wheels around to look at Tamas. "You stay out of that attic, you hear? Don't you go near it!"

"Mooooom, I wasn't even gonna go back up there again anyway," Tamas whines, though you're not entirely convinced of the truthfulness of his statement.

"Anyway, I thank you all kindly for letting us know about that tripwire and for taking care of Goldtooth," Tsura says. "Good riddance to bad rubbish! I just wish we had some sort of payment to give besides our thanks," she sighs.

The rest of your evidence in hand, the group hurries back to the Green Market to meet with Zeeva and she accompanies you all to the headquarters of the Korvosan guard. Once there you're forced to spend some time giving your statements about the disturbance in the market as well as your other experiences and the trail of clues leading back to Jaelle Goldtooth. The guard captain promises that he'll do everything he can to make sure that Goldtooth faces justice for her crimes, attempted and perpetrated.

"Should be a pretty open and shut case, especially between your testimony and the one that Lady Qualstair gave us earlier," he nods. "The whole thing sounds like it was a right strange affair but I'm glad you folks were able to put an end to her schemes. The city of Korvosa thanks you for your service."

"He was right," Zeeva comments as the group make their way back out into the city streets. "You all really did save the city and not just by stopping Goldtooth. If you hadn't been at each of those places at just the right time, well...the city would have lost something precious each time. But now...now I believe that all is well and will be well again, at least for a time - all thanks to you," she smiles.

As if in agreement, the clouds that had been covering the gray sky all day begin to clear as the sun begins its descent towards the horizon, bathing the city and the group in a warm glow. And though you all will still need to return to Magnimar to report your success to Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch, it can wait, at least for tonight. Tonight, each of you can rest easy knowing that you did your duty as agents of the Pathfinder Society and that the future isn't always written in stone.

The End.

Later that night Karayan treats you all to a nice dinner. Halfway during the meal he stands up

"I would like to start with a toast to our missing companion Eamon. As unsufferable as that man is, he was part of this team and it is a pity he had to leave before we found the evidence."

he raises his glass and takes a small sip before continueing

"As you all know by now I am not a human. My father is a vampire and that makes me a dhampir. I want to thank you all for not judging me by that, but that you judged me by my actions. In particular I want to thank Eredur for standing up for me. To be honest that is the first time somebody did that."

He looks everybody in the eye
"When we met I thought Venture Captain Heidmarch had just randomly thrown us together, As if she shuffled a deck of harrow cards and pulled out six random cards. Now I am not so sure. We work together very well and it is with a bit of sorrow that I will take ship to Absalom to await my next assignment. It is also with a lightness in my step, for I know we will meet again someday. Thank you all for that"

He raises his glass once again and sits down.

The next morning Karayan goes to the Frisky Unicorn. He goes in by the kitchen entrance and motions to Craik to come outside for a moment "I will be leaving for Absalom today. That means I won't be around to do a good word for you. I tried to put in a good word with Lady Qualstair, the rest is up to you." he pulls out a purse "Do you have any pie I can purchase? I will see the little dragons before I go"

After having this little chat he goes up into the tower and knocks on the door "Hello little friends, I have come to say goodbye. If Flovi wants to see more of the world I would be happy to have her as a companion when I am a little bit more experienced. I will probably be in Korvosa again in the future and I will make sure to visit you again. For now, would you like some pie?"

A dwarf judges a man by his own actions, and I'm glad I have been the one able to stand up for you. I'm sure some of you are giggling in your heads because a dwarf doesn't stand up very high. It's always better than to be too highty because of who your parents may be. And believe me, I'm not only referring to Eamon, but to myself too. I haven't been without prejudices.

He looks at the elf witch and nods to her

It's great to have a keen intellect, and to be able to learn new langages, or obscure knowledges, or more powerful magic, but if your heart doesn't learn anything... It's useless. I have learned a good lesson theses days, working with you. I'm still proud to be a dwarf. But i'm glad to see value in the people.. in my companions. Bless the Society for that.

Guillaume swirls the wine in his glass, a passable vintage for sure yet nothing upon the fine grape of home, and smiles as Karayan discusses his heritage... and then as talk turns to Lady Heidmarch's original selection of Pathfinders, he proposes a toast, "To the Society... to newly found friends... and to our paths crossing again one day..."

The next day, Guillaume has left before sunrise... his mind already set on a return to Magnimar and another stay amongst the monuments of the grand city. And maybe one day, adventure...

Dalen joins the Karayan in the morning as he heads to the Frisky Unicorn. She keeps quiet, letting the strange man talk and just enjoys the company. As they leave, she checks on Gentlefluff and pets him on the neck. She stays a little while longer than Karayan, telling stories to the tiny dragons roosting in the small tower.

The evening tide carried the ship she sailed on out to sea. She looked back at the dull, almost dreary, walls of Korvosa. Her first mission hadn't been what she had expected at all. It was fun though, and she was more than happy about way things had gone. As the sun set and twilight fell on the Varisian coast, Dalen wondered where she'd be off to next.
