the small town of Sandpoint was a bustle this 18th day in the month of Pharast. in the year of 1707 Absalom Reckoning. The town hadnt had a lot to be happy about in recent years, but tomorrow the town would have the biggest festival theyve had for years and years as the newly built Temple would be consecrated to Desna with the Swallowtail Festival. The day honoring the Spring Equinox.

Why this day, when the temple also 6 other dieties represented?. Simple. Desna was the primary diety of the Varisian People, which made up about 50% of the residents of the community. Its also why Mayor Deverin had brought in Abstalar Zanthus, a priest well thought of Maginmar who represented Desna

So tomorrow morning would start the festivities with speeches, and games for the kinds, thered be a cook off, with samples from local Taverns, Inns and venders with the prize being having the trophy to place saying the best food in Sandpoint and the council meetings for a year would be catered by the winner.

then more games, more speeches, lots of drinking and finally the swallowtails would be released near dusk.

The town was brimming with folks coming in to enjoy the festival. Several Ship Captains had held over from sailing out just for the festival. Any one within a hundred miles that could...was here.

Gorvi had put on retainer about a half dozen extra Teenagers looking to make a few Silver to keep the streets clean during the festival and he was walking around with them assigning areas of responsibility.

Sherrif Belor was doing the same with the guard, taking the meager force to their assigned spots and briefing them on what to look for. He wanted nothing to disrupt the festivities. Each guard was given a signal horn to blow if there was real danger. 2 assigned to each of the bridges coming in. 2 for the docks. two for the main gate. two up by Old Light to have a good vantage to the sea. He would keep 4 at the Festival Grounds. The other 6 would be at the jail to respond to where horns were blown.

The militia was not activated, they were to enjoy the day.

The Bazaar was open and full of locals selling their wares.

Most of the town was excited. It was nearing dusk on the day before and everything was planned and set up. 5 Long years the town had been without a Temple, and tomorrow they would get not only a temple, but a Cathedral. Youd have to go to Maginmar to find anything grander. Where all the money had come, was a close held secret by Kendra Deverin, Not that anyone was complaining. Even the normal disgruntled Titus Scarnetti had nothing but good to say about the Cathedral.

Tomorrow would be a day to remember.

Play is open. its 4PM on 18th of Pharast, which is the equivalent of March. Everyone Role play as long as youd like, when 4 of the six of you feel their desired amount of role playing is finished, say you are going to bed and Ill advance things. Sidonia, I still need your summary.

"Alright, alright. I'll give it a rest JUST as soon as I finish this corner over here." A pause, then he adds, "I promise."

To give emphasis to his words, Brahorm muscles the broom he's using, just a bit harder and faster than he'd been doing previously. Hopefully, he thinks, to the approval of the nearby priests and acolytes who were finishing up their organizing touches around the lobby of the new Cathedral.

Tomorrow was the day. And just like everyone else in town, Brahorm Najhar was excited, and hoping that everything would go well. He knew, with his status as a Champion of Sarenrae, he really didn't have to help out with the menial tasks like cleaning and moving furniture in preparation of the festival, but, he almost felt too guilty not to lend a hand...and had been doing so for several hours.

Sweating more than a little, the dark skinned young man finished his sweeping with little fanfare, and simply put the cleaning tool back in it's proper place.

With a shrug, a wave, and a grin to the other volunteers, the Redeemer headed out onto the street, thinking that perhaps he had overdone it, and that he really needed something to eat.

A big towering figure needs to duck to exit the Hagfish through its door. The 6 feet 10 inches man looks back as he's called "Eh, George, say hi to ya mama for me will ya?" His fist closes and he turns to get back in. Jargie, the owner stops George on his track. Being about half his size, it's surprising it only takes him is an outstretched finger. He says "Hey stupid. Ever wonder why they call him "Tiny" George? It's not his size, can't you see? It's your size, when he's done squeezing ya." The patron quickly quiets down.

George gets out, this is a good day, people are happy. That makes him happy too. He knows too well what his mother's business is at the local brothel. And he knows with so many people in town, she's going to have business. He forces himself to think of something else.

He goes over to the docks. Seeing it so full of ships is not an usual sight, but he figures he can make a copper or two hauling boxes. A gigantic axe is strapped to his back, but this doesn't seem to bother him at all. He approaches the ship with the most busy work he can find and says "Oy, pay me 2 copper and I'll haul these boxes for you so you can chill."

After styling the hair of Kaye and the employees of The Pixie's Kitten, Barbie had went back to her room to change into her personalized Hagfish 'uniform'. She says bye to her mother, George's mother, Kaye and the rest of the brothel workers before heading out the door to walk to her other job, via the docks.

She hears the sound of a songbird while walking along the docks, stops and tries to find it. A higher number of seagulls are flying around the bay, probably attracted by the higher number of ships than are usually docked. Then see spots a songbird perched on an eave and her 'brother' placing a heavy crate down onto the ground by the door of the building the bird is perched on.

"Hi, George." Barbie says with a smile on her face, "Kaye is giving me the day off tomorrow to enjoy the festival. Not sure about Jargie yet. If I can't get it off I might sweet-talk him into letting me run the Hagfish food stall at the festival instead of working at the tavern tomorrow."

"Almost time to call it quits for the day." Persival grinned as he stood against a wall watching the many visitors and tourists walking by and chattering happily. He was dressed in a standard-looking militia uniform, with his dancer's spear strapped to his back and a shortbow as well, prepared to draw either weapon if needed, but trying his best to look unthreatening. The townspeople need a guard, not a bully.

He knew he was assigned to the festival grounds tomorrow, and for now he wanted to do a quick check down past the docks, then drop in and see if Gaven Deverin was at the brewery, before grabbing a quick bite to eat.

The town guardsman made his way down the street to just in front of the Rusty Dragon, noting that Miss Kaijitsu had quite a few customers already. Ameiko was one of the kindest members of the Founding Families, and one of the easiest to talk to. He was glad she was going to do well during the festival.

There was much for her to do, parties were for celebration, no need for morbid funerals or the like. So, with an extra day off, she makes sure she is dressed in as much colour as she could, no matter if it fit together.

Lavielle was ready to enjoy the festivities, dance to the music, play with the children. Be a big sister

Once Sidonia is released from her drudgery in the shipyard office for the day, she retreats into the portion of the building she has taken over as a residence. It's far too early for going out, barely the end of the afternoon.

Sidonia settles in for a while, making her own dinner of a sliced up apple paired with some pieces of cheese. After eating, she makes herself a pot of tea and settles in with a book for a couple hours of reading.

As the sun begins to drop low in the sky, Sidonia puts away the book and gets washed up. It takes her a while to decide what to wear, but she eventually decides on a skirt of Varisian cloth, thin vertical stripes of many colors. She pairs the skirt with a plain white collared shirt and a short sleeveless black velvet doublet, generally following the male pattern for such an article, but sneakily incorporating pattern elements of bodices to make it less boxy and more form fitting.

Sidonia goes light on cosmetics, just a little reddening for her lips and a touch of kohl to accentuate her eyes. Before she leaves Sidonia adds low boots and a belt. She has never been a fan of dangly things so the dagger she takes along is held in a sheath that fits horizontally on the belt, resting across the small of her back.

By the time Sidonia is out the door, darkness is falling. She probably would have stayed in, there will be a lot going on the next day with the Swallowtail Festival, the cathedral, and such. But, considering how big an event tomorrow will be and how many visitors it's bringing to town, it's possible someone she knows from Magnimar might be in town. Sidonia is on the hunt for familiar faces, acquaintances or if she's lucky a friend.

Her first destination is the White Deer. It's not a place Sidonia would normally go. It's about as far away from home as possible, and not much fun. But she expects it will be filled up with out-of-towners. She makes it her first stop so she can do her recon and move on to better places as they really start to pick up. Next will be the Rusty Dragon after a stop by Cracktooth's. There are some other places, Risa's Place and the dingy dockside taverns but Sidonia doesn't figure they're worth her time, they attract niche patronage and don't have an inviting look from the street.

As she walks to the White Deer, Sidonia's pace is quick and efficient. She gracefully slips through or around pedestrians or knots of people in the street. She keeps her eyes peeled for people she might recognize though.

Brahorm, went out into the festival grounds before the Cathedral. ribbons on a latticework of ropes hung between the buildings and the temple, to afford some semblance of shade. Tents and tables had been set up for the food and drink. though none of that was here yet. A couple lanes for horsehoes had been set up. as well as a tug of war pit. It looked like a two-legged race has been set up, as well as a hoop game.

A large platform for people to say there speeches on had been set up.

He looked around in the dusk and thought where to go.

---------------------------------------------------

Two sailors had happily tossed George a few coppers so they could get on with drinking the night away rather than tote boxes off the ship. They set off to The Hagfish quickly to start their revelry.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Barbie sat on a crate and watched the songbird who had moved to sit on a rail of the wharf and sang for George and Barbie as if it was a personal concert.
----------------------------------------------------------

Belor came up to Percy and said, in a booming voice, Pers. Youre in the militia, not the guard. I appreciate your volunteering. Remember you can take the day off and enjoy things. But if you are set on helping I would like you up behind the platform with me, where your father can see you and be proud of you. He said that last with a wink, before morning towards the bridge below.

------------------------------------------------------------

Lavielles parents told her they would be at the festivities and had talked to Ilsoari, who was bring several of his students with him. They were planning on standing near him and Chask, the bookshop owner.
------------------------------------------------------------

Sidonia was approached by her cousin Belvin, who said Ethram wants all of us to stand near each other for the Valdemar family. Ive taken a chair up their for him to sit , as I dont believe he can stand too long. before she walked out the door.

Walking through town she could appreciate the decorating that had gone on. When she went in the White Hart, the smell of slow smoking deer assailed her nostrils. The Inn was full...and when she looked around she didnt see anyone at first, but finally noticed a young man sitting with a few servants...she thought she recognized him. Aldern Foxglove, a noble whos family had been a little worse for wear, as his mother and father had passed years ago. the lord and his two sisters had moved to Korvosa, One sister had stayed here upon reaching age. The other had moved to Absalom. But Aldern had returned and had taken control of the families holdings and was an up and comer in Maginmar circles. He was in is mid twenties and not a bad looking gentleman with a bit of a rakish look to him.

Persival smiles. "Thank you, Sheriff. I'd like that -- I'll stand with you behind the platform, just in case I'm needed. I'll see you there tomorrow morning, sir!" Percy offers a crisp salute, then waves goodbye to the sheriff, whom he respects greatly, and heads off towards the Brewery with a spring in his step.

Wow, I'll be the only militia member working tomorrow alongside the permanent guard. Percy can't help but wonder if this means anything -- about how he's seen, or respected ... but it's a good sign nonetheless.

Making his way down the street, he arrives at the Two Knights Brewery and opens the front door. "Sir Deverin? Are you here?" It occurred to Persival that the Councilman and former paladin might be busy elsewhere, with other preparations for the festival.

George waves back at Barbie and says "Ey, I'll talk to Jargie if you want. Also, let me know if you want company at the stall." One thing he likes about Barbie is that she knows he would be utterly bored manning a stall, so he asks to be nice, knowing she will tell him she has it covered.

George enjoys the weight lifting and exercise, it makes him feel like he's keeping his body fit. Although, despite his size and the weapons he carries around, it is Barbie's presence that makes him feel safe. He continues working silently, to enjoy the peaceful moment.

After the work is done, he asks Barbie if she has eaten yet. He says "I ate half a chicken at Jargie's, you know the one he keeps too long in the fire and it dries up the moisture, so you know I'm hungry. I don't know why I keep ordering that. Anyway, I'll get 2 servings of the fish and fried potatoes now, then I'm going to bed. I can buy you some if you like."

Knowing that the next day will be rather busy, and likely rather chaotic, Brahorm decides against stopping at one of the taverns, and instead heads home to his aunt's house. Reaching the front door, he kicks dirt and dust off his boots more out of habit than need, and enters.

"Aunt Rhasheri? I'm home." he calls out, and moves inside to the comfortable, if aeromatic, abode. As always, Brahorm's senses are momentarily (nearly) overwhelmed by scents and fragrances common to the home of a herbalist, especially one of his aunt's level of skill and experience.

Glancing around, but not seeing the Keleshite woman, Brahorm makes his way casually to the small room just off of the kitchen situated at the rear of the house, where unsurprisingly he finds his aunt at work on some sort of brewed mixture.

"Hi." he says simply, not wanting to surprise her and interrupt her project. "I'm done for the day. Need any help?" he repeats his standard greeting when finding her so occupied.

Sidonia is delighted to see Foxglove, though she does not give that away. First she goes to the bar to order a brandy. If there's a seat open at the bar, she'll take it. Otherwise she stands.

Sidonia spends a few minutes looking about casually and sipping at her brandy. During this time she shifts position a little if needed to keep as open a line of sight between Foxglove and herself as she can manage given the crowd. In no case does she look directly at him, only out of the corner of her eye as necessary to keep tabs on him.

"Thanks for offering. I should be the one to talk to Jargie. You enjoy the festivities tomorrow, though I will not say no if you want to stop by the stall once in a while so I can go freshen up," Barbie tells her 'big brother', knowing he knows she means a privy break.

"Save the money you would have spent buying me dinner for the games tomorrow. I'll have a fried potato or two from your plate if you don't mind though."

Barbie looks around to see if anyone is actively watching the two of them (aside the song birds). Not seeing anyone actively watching them, she wills her kinetic aura to appear around her, causing about 200 water bubbles to appear out of thin air, each the size of a rain drop (4 millimeter diameter) and containing a single seed 3 millimeters in diameter, with half the bubbles each containing a single raspberry seed and the other half of the bubbles each containing a single strawberry seed, with around 4 water bubbles swirling around her, 4 swirling around George and about 4 per the remaining 5-foot cubes of her 10-foot emanation.

"Here's something sweeter for you to eat," Barbie tells George, who is no stranger to how his 'litte sister' likes to use her magic this way, as one of the water bubbles pauses in front of his face, the seed inside it quickly expands, bursting the water bubble, and continues to grow into a ripe strawberry.

Does George eat it before it falls? If it falls, does he catch it in his hand or does it fall to the ground?

George quickly picks up the strawberry and stuffs it in his mouth before Barbie can "unwill" it from existence. He knows well what it does and he loves the instant good feeling, not to mention the sensation of being full. It sure will help while he waits for his fish and chips to get ready.

He says "Thanks! Now, come on, let's order the food. Then you can tell me all about the new style you were talking about. You know, the one that mixes Irrisen and Neb styles. I have no idea what you have in mind, but it's gotta be good."

He moves on to get into the Hagfish again and promptly orders his double serving of fish & chips.

As Barbie enters The Hagfish with George, it does not surprise Jargie and her fellow coworkers that she has shown up with a better part of an hour remaining before her shift starts, as that tends to be her typical habit, starting her shift earlier if Jargie asks her to, otherwise she spends the time having dinner and playing at the gambling tables, making friendly chatter talk with the patrons gambling. Making use of her Group Impression feat.

As Jargie gives his typical warm friendly greeting, Barbie smiles back and walks over to talk to her boss, knowing that some of her coworkers might have already asked for the day off tomorrow or to be one of the tavern workers to work at the The Hagfish vendor stall during the festival tomorrow.

Barbie smiles at her coworkers working the floor as she walks over to the bar, which is full with a combination of locals and sailors, Jargie spinning a yarn about how he lost his leg. Barbie stands at end of the bar, not wanting to be rude and interrupt Jargie's current version of the ever-changing tale of how he lost his leg. Jargie's pauses his story on a cliffhanger to refill the orders of the patrons seated at the bar and the ones his servers are waiting for, then before continuing his yarn, walks over to Barbie, "What's on your mind, lass?"

"I would have asked earlier in the week but did not think it was proper to not wait for the servers who have worked here longer than me to ask you first. Would it be okay if I have the day off tomorrow, and if there is not enough coverage for that could I be assigned to work the tavern's festival food stall instead of here tomorrow?" Barbie asks, and as Jargie is about to give his answer, she blurts out, "If you want, I can earn the request by spending the time before my shift starts today entertaining these fine folk," Barbie indicates the seated patrons at the bar Jargie is in the middle of spinning a yarn to, "with a story about how you really lost your leg." Barbie finishes with a smile and a glint in her eye, knowing that might cinch it, as she has declined Jargie's requests the past two years for her to compete in the yarn-spinning pasttime The Hagfish is known for.

A Diplomacy check if needed for her request....

I rolled on PB before hitting preview on this post and got a natural 20 (on PB).

Jargie tells Barbie, "You have a deal, lass. You spin a tale. If they think your yarn is good enough to tip you well you can have the day off tomorrow, and if not you can work at the festival stall instead of here tomorrow, starting at high noon instead of your usual start time, though your shift will only be for four hours so you can still enjoy the festivities as well." Jargie turns to the patrons at the bar, "I will continue my tale after young Barbie here entertains us with hers. You're all in for a treat, as this is her first attempt at spinning a yarn." Jargie looks back at Barbie, "Let's see how much you have picked up in the past two years, lass. You may begin now."

Barbie moves to stand behind the counter so the bar patrons all have a better view of her as she begins her yarn. Jargie stops her before she is about to begin, "For the entire tavern, lass. Get up and stand on the bar to spin your first yarn in The Hagfish."

Barbie climbs up onto the bar as instructed, and then addresses the patrons of the tavern, Hi, everyone. I am Barbie, and this is my first attempt at spinning a yarn. I hope you all enjoy it." Some hoots and hollers from the local regulars.

"Most people think that Jargie lost his leg while he was in the Shackles.  That is the one constant in Jargie's tales about losing his leg.  But he did not lose his leg in the Shackles. Rather he lost it here in Varisian Bay, a few weeks before coming ashore to our quaint little town and purchasing this fine establishment.  He lost his leg during a fateful stormy night out on the mysterious waters of our beloved Bay.  He had heard the tales of Murdermaw and he had set out to make an impressive name for himself by being the one who finally defeated the beast, and be able to buy a tavern here and mount the infamous fish behind the bar." Barbie points her hand to the blank space above Nora's fish tank, "Even a decade later, Jargie leaves that space on the wall to mount Murdermaw."

"But I am getting ahead of myself.  Jargie was an accomplished whaler before he settled in Sandpoint, so he was planning to use those skills to catch a fish that is nowhere near the size of a whale, no matter the stories you have been told about how big Ol' Murdermaw is.  Jargie was not alone, as we all know he is no fool.  He was the captain of his own whaling ship with a full crew.  Their objective...to gain the prestige of being the ones who ended Murdermaw's reign of terror on the Varisian Sea." Barbie looks at the patron's face to see if any of them seem to lose interest when she referred to Varisian Bay as the Varisian Sea.

"Jargie and his crew of The Honest Pirate spent a week searching for the elusive red snapper until they came across a small fisherman's boat that had been snapped in half... no doubt by the very fish they were hunting. They dropped their trawling nets into the drink, and several of the crew got harpoons in hand ready to throw from the bow, stern, port and starboard sides of the ship.  Tensions and anticipation were high. They stood vigil for a day and half a night before the need for sleep was too much. One unfortunate soul, as he fell asleep, fell forward and over the rail of the ship. As the harpooners to either side of the crewmate who went overboard shouted out for help, they saw a giant fish emerge from the water and swallow the man whole."

"Jargie called out to the crewmen who witnessed the beast and asked, "Is it Murdermaw, lads?" The two both looked at their captain, terrified looks on their faces, "No, Cap'n. It isn't. Unless the stories are untrue about the beast being a red snapper." Jargie wanted to know right away what kind of beast they were dealing with, "Well, what sort of fish is it then?".  One of them shook his head, "By the gods I have no idea. I have never seen such an ugly thing in my life." The other witness answered Jargie's question, "Its a hagfish, sir. A giant hagfish!"  Jargie, quick to act told his men the plan remains the same, "We kill this beast not just for fame but to avenge young Willard's death."

Performance+6 vs DC 14, 15* or 16: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

The giant hagfish was determined to make a meal out of the entire crew of The Honest Pirate and during the rest of the night, while some of the harpooners impaled the beast with spears, they suffered the worst of it, as the beast rammed the ship repeatedly, causing even more of the crew to fall overboard and gulped down by the monstrous fish.  As the sun started to rise, only Jargie and his first mate remained alive of the crew and giant hagfish had a dozen harpoons sticking out from each of its flanks, the sea drenched in the blood of the behemoth.  As the beast was about to ram the ship again, Jargie and the first mate hurled the two remaining harpoons at the beast.  They both struck true, each of their throws skewering an eye of the beast."

Performance+6 vs DC 14, 15* or 16: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

"The now blinded beast rammed the ship, causing Jargie to tumble overboard, Jargie got his boot knife in hand...just before the beast bit Jargie's leg off. Jargie grabbed the harpoon protruding from the beast's left eye and forced it further into the beasts' skull, until it reached the beast's brain and the monster stopped thrashing about. The first mate helped his captain back onto the ship.  They hauled the beast out of the water, and gutted it. In doing so they discovered the beast was pregnant, all but one had died from the damage their mother had sustained over the night.  You have all laid eyes on that giant fish's spawn...her name is Norah and she is swimming in the lovely tank behind the bar."

To impress the Hagfish’s clientele with yarning, a PC must succeed at six successive DC 15* Perform (act, comedy, or oratory) checks in a row over the course of an hour. If all six checks are successful, the PC takes his highest success of the six for determining how much gold** he earns from the crowd with his performance, but he earns twice the amount he would otherwise earn. As with the hagfish challenge, a character can win this contest just once, although the crowd certainly appreciates repeat performances (which are resolved with a single normal Performance check).

* PF1E DC 15 = PF2E DC 16 by the conversion resource tool. In PF1E, a 1st level character with Perform as a class skill and 1 rank in the skill has a +4 modifier (before Cha adjustment). In PF2E a 1st level character who is trained in Performance has a +3 modifier (before Cha modifier) which would equate to a PF2E DC of 14 (instead of 15) for the yarning DC.

** Per the conversion tool, 1 to 100 gold in PF1E = 1.5 silver per gold in PF2E (the conversion rate changes above 100 gold in PFE1)

@GM: I simply copied and pasted the yarning default rules. I await how you want to handle the yarning contest. My suggestions for how to handle it in PF2E:

Option 1: failing at all 6 checks results in earning downtime income equal to your level -1, succeeding at 1 but not all six checks results in earning downtime income equal to your your level, and succeeding at all six checks results in earning downtime income equal to your level +1.

Option 2 (as spinning a yarn is not a full-day activity): Succeeding at all six checks, as suggested (double your result using the PF1E Perform skill then appply the ratio 1.5 PF2E silver/PF1E gold to determine how many silver and copper are earned. Succeeding at one check earns the highest result, with the same calculation as above except for doubling the PF1E amount. Failing at all six checks results in the lowest result, with PF1E to PF2E conversion ration.

George listens to the story while munching on his fish and chips. After a few mouthfulls, he stops eating to cheer Barbie on. After she's done, he bellows a laugh and says "Oy, Jargie, I never knew you were crippled by Norah's mama! Say what are ya gonna do when she grows to that size?"

Just getting the last few kegs out before I turn in. All the Inns and Taverns need to have a full stock for tomorrow.

Emil looked at his daughter and smiled Indeed. We're just heading back to the house I see youre going out tonight. Well do not stay out late. Tomorrow will be big.

Atar grinned at her daughter, Have fun Lavay. Its not often we have a festival like this. she gives her husband a playful elbow in the ribs.

Barbie performed a minor magical stunt and George enjoyed one of her summoned fruits that invigorated him. They made their way to Jergies. The bar was full. The waitress were very busy bringing food and drink to the clientele. Jergies was up taking bets for some dart game from a half dozen sailors. he shouted to a drunk to keep his hands out of Norahs tank. The drunk pulled his hand out and looked at the slime in wonder.

Barbie was all a whirl and full of social grace moving through the crowd, waving to the people she knew, who grinned an waved back.

please only roll here or on roll20 so I can see the rolls, not on pathbuilder

George followed her through the crowd and all parted for the big man.

Then Barbie began to tell her tale and most of the crowd was drinking ignoring her, then gradually some and then some more started listening pretty soon a good amount were.

when she finished she curtsied and the drunk sailors were hootin and hollerin and making jeers at Jergie.

as George added the final point to the table Jergie laughed and said simply Ill need a bigger tank

and the bar went wild.

use the second method. it should never take the place of earned income, but rather gain a few extra coin, but would increase your reputation among the sailors faction

The elder woman glanced over her shoulder and smiled at her Grandson. The wisdom of years in her eyes. Help? You dont have the patience not to grind my herbs to mush with those big hands and arms of yours Brahorm. The only help I need is a hug from her favorite grandson, that is if you can keep from squeezin me to mush too

-------------------------------------------------------------

Aldern saw Sidonia at the bar and grinned, he waved her over and called for a waitress to bring her a drink. when she got to his table, he said Well who wouldve guessed it. I didnt know you were in Sandpoint. The family exile you after your antics in Maginmar?

George makes sure to stay sober in the bar. With so many sailors, there's bound to be a fight or another, and he shows how "tiny" he is by inviting the brawlers out.

Other than that, he just sticks around and helps Barbie clean up afterwards until he's bored, and he goes to bed, thinking of happy days.

"Hey there," Persival says with a smile and a wave. "I'm good. Looks like I'll be helping out the Sheriff tomorrow at the festival. I'm sure things are going to be busy, and who knows, maybe I can be of use."

Have Sidonia and Foxglove ever met in person before, or do they just know each other due to overlapping social circles, reputation and so forth?

Sidonia only shows any recognition of Foxglove's presence after he has started waving, as if that is what has brought him to her attention. She puts her face through the stages of only just now seeing him. First there is surprise mixed with some puzzlement, as if she doesn't recognize him. Next there is the light of memory coming on, with a recognition she does know who he is. Finally a smile, as she indicates she is happy to see him.

Calls for Deception I guess?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Sidonia follows Foxglove's wave over to his table. Although she is smiling she takes her time getting there, sauntering over at a relaxed pace.

"Well! Lord Aldern Foxglove I believe! How wonderful it is to see you all the way out here at the ends of the world."

"Thank you for inviting me to join you" she continues after taking the seat provided for her.

She offers Aldern a wry smile when he mentions the Magnimar troubles and affirms his guess in a cool, detached voice.

"Yes, you are correct. Sent to visit my relatives. I've been here for some months now. I believe the purpose of it all is for me to ingest a goodly helping of moral fiber, served with a generous side of traditional values."

Sidonia switches to a more familiar and teasing tone of voice as she continues speaking.

"You have come for the Swallowtail Festival? What tempted you enough to make the trek? The architecture, the religion, or the party?"

Do you mean me? I just put in the two rolls because Sidonia is trying to do a couple of different things that might not work.

1. She doesn't want to seem desperate, so Sidonia is pretending she didn't know Foxglove was there. Making him extend the invitation without her having to explicitly or implicitly ask to me invited gets her where she wants to go with her dignity intact. So a Bluff.

2. She wants to make a good impression with Foxglove and get cozier with him. She wants to monopolize his attention. So Diplomacy.

If the rolls aren't needed you can just ignore them.

After the clientele of The Hagfish heads out shortly after last call, Barbie attends to her cleaning-up duties with the other servers. She thanks George for his assistance before he leaves to head home. About fifteen minutes later Barbie says goodnight to Jargie and her coworkers and heads home.

Oh, gotcha. Let's say they don't know each other personally.

Barbie and George spend a few hours at The Hagfish. The crowd starts to thin, as more and more get too far into their cups to enjoy themselves. Jergie starts helping them out the door, where they make ther way to their perspective ships. Theres singing in the streets as they do what drunk sailors do.

Soon they are cleaning the tavern up for the next day and Jergie thanks everyone for their hard work, and heads to the back room where he has a bedroom and office after seeing everyone out.

The two head down the street while Barbie is looking at the stars on this clear night.

He tips everyone on his crew, and also hands Percy a few silver for his help.

then taking a drink he gave a hearty noise saying I do so enjoy the flavor of Two Knights Raspberry Mead. Its quite soothing. Then continued As you know Im trying to get control of my families estates. Well It seems Titus Scarnetti paid some back taxes and is fighting me for control of their manor house near here. While Aldern isn't exactly a scintillating conversationalist in Sidonia's estimation, at least he doesn't drone on and on about property and taxes for long. On the positive side, he does seen game to play as well.

Hoping to put the business part of the conversation to rest, the only reply she offers to his true purpose in town is a Scarnetti remark since she is passingly familiar with the family by now.

"Scarnetti. When their name comes up it always seems to be associated with... friction."

"As for myself, I'm managing given the circumstances. I have been put to work by my oh so ergophilic relations at the shipyard, where I endlessly shuffle papers."

"The town does have it's charms. There just isn't very much of it. It could do with being considerably larger. Still, for a brief visit like yours, there are a few decent ways to fill the time."

"The first step must be improving upon the current surroundings. Are you lodging here at the White Deer? We're going on a little walk to better and brighter places."

George enjoys the fresh air when he gets there. He tells Barbie "The day's gonna be good tomorrow. Belor has security covered, and he didn't even call me or the other militia to do anything!"

He decides to open up "You know why I never manage to get money for my mum? I bet I could join some caravans going in and out of Sandpoint, but I just like this place too much. I'd miss it. And I'd be afraid something happens to her... well, all Koye's women, really. That's what keeps me here, and that's why I'll probably never leave and make something of myself."

He tries to feign indifference, but Barbie can tell he's been thinking about this for a long time, and is asking for advice.

Aldern managed to say after listening to Sidonia Yes, I find it the most upscale of the Inns in town, and his cooking is to die for. Of course Sidonia, lead on.

Barbie stops her starlight dancing and places her right hand on the left forearm of her 'big brother' as she tilts her head back so she can look him in the eyes.

"You do not have to leave town to make something of yourself, George. You've already made something of yourself, silly." she says affectionately. "Not everyone in town is part of the militia. The town guard takes care of problems that arise with locals and strangers passing through town. You know the militia will protect Sandpoint should bandits ever try to overtake the town. The sight of seeing you would probably make half the bandits lose their nerve and flee before they even crossed one of the bridges into town."

Barbie waits a few seconds for George to think about her words, then continues, "I think I Jargie and Kaye would be alright if I take a few months off to travel with you. You have sailed on ships but neither of us have undertaken the Varisian rite of passage of traveling Varisia with one or more of the caravans."

The thought of the possibility of seeing the wonders of Varisia with her brother makes her think of which caravans to join.

"We could join the Kaspakari caravan when it passes through on its way to Magnimar. From Magnimar we could join the Yondabakari caravan to Wartle and from there join up with the Cinder Road caravan up to Riddleport. We could visit my nana!"

"As for Kaye, our moms and the others. The locals know how Belor feels about Kaye. Anyone who lays their hands on any of them would probably get locked up."

Barbie places her other hand on her brother's other forearm and gently tugs on his arms, a tactic she has used for years to let George know to bend over so his face is closer to hers or to lift her up and hold her so she is face to face with him.

"Promise me you won't leave town again without asking me if I want to come along with you."

George relaxes a bit under the conversation. He says "That'd be nice. If we go together on a caravan, it'd still feel like home. Thanks, Barbs. We can make some money that way, that'd be nice. And no, I won't leave home without asking you." He finishes with a reassuring smile.

He quickly changes subject and says "So, who do you think will win the cooking competition? It depends, I think. Jargie should stick to what he knows and does best. If he tries to go fancy, he always messes up."

Does George know his father's identity/name or just that he is sailor that visited The Pixie's Kitten and slept with his mother?

Barbie is happy that she helped George realize that he already has made something of himself and that the next time he decides to leave town she will have the chance to go with him.

"Good. I think we both might have inherited a bit of the adventuring drive from our fathers, whoever and wherever they might be."

"I plan to sample some of the non-fish meat dishes. I wonder if Garridan will be offering any venison dishes tomorrow."

Bringing up their fathers Barbie decides to fill George in on her progress regarding her desire about turning her prized possession into a 'father-finder', "I know the name of the magic rune that I want to learn how to etch into my engraved shears. Vorvashali has told his contacts to keep a lookout out for the formula I want." Barbie's face loses her perpetual smile briefly, "I still have to master the basics of etching magical runes first according to Vorvashali. He says I must first master being able to imbue a weapon to become a magical weapon with a what he says is called a potency rune. He also suggested I master how to etch what he calls a striking rune before moving on to being able to apply the rune that that sailor had on his dagger."

George is one of the few people who still on occasion witnesses his sister OCD about something. It was about her dolls when she was younger and was more frequent then. Now it is occasionally about different hair styles she thinks up or learns about and wants to attempt. The locals at The Hagfish never see this side of her, and as she styles the ladies' and gentlemen's hair at the brothel in a private room, the clientele there never see her when she occasionally OCDs regarding styling hair.

"I won't ask you to let me practice on your axe. Maybe on one of your javelins though?" Barbie looks up at George with her eyebrows raised to exaggerate her smile.

Barbie blushes slightly, self-aware that she started to OCD. Since George shared something personal with her she decides she should return the favor, "I never told you all the reasons I want to make my shears into a 'father-finder'." Barbie looks down at the ground instead of into George's eyes as she continues, "I could never do what our moms do. Mom does not know who my father is. Mom and Nana do not know who their fathers are." Barbie hesitates as she wipes a tear from her eye, "I have never kissed anyone...romantically," she wipes another tear from her eyes, "Because I wouldn't know if anyone I might want to kiss that way is blood kin to me. Having my shears imbued with that magic will let me know if someone is or not."

Barbie looks back up at George, her eyes moist with tears..."But to prove they are not my blood kin my shears will have to hurt them first. It's not fair."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sidonia has a few fun filled hours with Aldern as she takes him to the Rusty Dragon. later they part ways, with just a hint of possible romantic interest from him.

Gradually everyone makes their way home and to sleep.

Early in the morning on the following day, everyone is preparing to go to the festival and get up with just that intent.

by 9am the streets are filled with out of towners visiting Sandpoint and most the town has gathered in the square before the Cathedral.

Mayor Deverin takes the stage at the stand before the church and starts.

Welcome everyone to the consecration of our Cathedral and this Swallowtail Festival. This a momentous occasion and I appreciate this grand turnout. Only a few have not. why look even Larz Rovanky, our Tanner has showed up. We all know Larz is hard put to be pried away from his work. However Larz, you didnt drag Das away from his forge I see. At any rate I truly hope you enjoy todays festivities. Drink, Eat, partake in the games, the social gathering and tomorrow you can return to work.

Sidonia stands with the Valdemar family, as requested by Ethram at least for the opening ceremony.

Barbie and Geroge stand near a tent where Jergie set up his table. Within hes cooking up his sampling for the cook off additionally he has a couple of imported kegs of ale from Riddleport.

Brahorn, Lavaille, and Persival all stand on the church side of the stand near Father Zanthus, Belor, and Naffer, along with the acolytes

Between now and next Tuesday Each day I will post one of the keynote speakers speech. Then Tuesday Ill post the cookoff.. Between my posts you may role play. I believe I have the name plates of all visible. Ill try and answer for the citizenry as I am able. Game on

Replendent in his polished armor "It ought to be. I was cleaning it all during my morning prayers.", his scimitar hung off his hip, and his shield slung across his back, Brahorm stood at near-military attention.

His being here with the rest of the Cathedral "staff" was an honor, and he would not do anything to make it seem less so. While a happy occasion, this was serious stuff.

The tall young man glanced over at his friends and gave both a nod, then began to scan the crowd, looking for others that he recognized.

Persival's town guard uniform has been tidied up and all the metal bits shined and re-shined. The breastplate is properly polished, and each of the leather plates of his kilt are arranged just so, but this being a festival day, he's wearing pants beneath the kilt. His flat-topped and billed uniform hat on his head and his polearm weapon strapped to his back, he didn't quite glisten as much as the metal-clad Brahorm, but he was certainly a fine, proud example of Sandpoint's brave, if underutilized, militia. He stands with a practiced smile (Smile #3: I May Be Armed and On Duty, but I'm Friendly and Happy to Help!) that nevertheless is a clear approximation of a friendly expression, rather than a heartfelt one.

Anyone truly paying attention to the middle scion of the Sterglus clan would notice he was mostly just nervous.

Stepping over next to Brahorm, Persival says in a cheery voice, "I don't think I could ever get my uniform to be as shiny as your armor." He pretends to cover his face against the hypothetical sunbeams reflecting off of the Sarenrae champion's scale mail.

"Are you nervous?" he whispers to the champion.

Not sure exactly what subject to use to open up a dialogue with her, Persival offers a friendly wave at Lavielle where she's situated.

The Prior Evening with Aldern:

As they ready to leave the White Deer, Sidonia suggests to Aldern the two of them go alone.

"Why don't you dismiss your people for the evening Lord Aldern? You won't be needing them, and where we're going it would be better if we don't stand out so much as an entourage would cause."

As they begin their stroll down to the Rusty Dragon, Sidonia slides her arm around through his so their arms are interlocked. She guides Aldern along the Church St - High St - Festival St - Market St route, pointing out places like shops or eateries Aldern might find useful. The place she makes a big deal about is the Sandpoint Theater.

"The quality of the performances there are well above what one might expect in a town like this. Cyrddak Drokkus, the proprietor, is well connected with the theater scene in Magnimar. He can even attract players and theatrical companies from the city here for short runs of current shows. It's impressive. While I haven't checked in very recently to see what is upcoming, there will surely be something of quality on offer during the Swallowtail Festival. It's too late this evening, but I can think of no better way to spend tomorrow evening."

As they draw near to the Rusty Dragon, Sidonia fills Aldarn in on the place a little to set expectations.

"The Rusty Dragon, you can see the large metal dragon sign just down there, is a bit rougher around the edges. But, it is much more lively than the White Deer, that place is far too sedate. Sleep at the White Deer, but come here for fun until you sleep, if you must give in to sleep."

"The proprietor is named Ameiko. It is her pet project. She is a Kaijitsu, one of the four leading families here, my own family is is another of the four. The mayor is a Deverin. The fourth is the Scarnetti's as you already know."

Sidomnia smirks as she brings up the Scarnetti's.

Inside, Sidonia makes sure to find them a small table where they have a good view of the place. She orders for them both, asking for two tankards of the Two Knights Raspberry Mead if it's available. It is a good way to show Aldern that she's listening to what he says, most everyone finds it flattering, and she sees no reason to think Aldern is any different. Besides, Sidonia is no in the habit of drinking mead, so trying it will ensure they have an extra thing to talk about.

"The reason this is the best place to come is its free-for-all atmosphere. Playing music, singing, storytelling, all such things are encouraged here. Ameiko has a genius for managing the rowdiness and chaos needed for patrons to join in the show themselves, while never letting things get truly out of control. Also, she plays the shamisen sometimes. Ameiko plays it well; it's an exotic sound, and quite beautiful."

Sidonia chatters quite a bit as she and Aldern drink and take in the night's proceedings. She does restrain herself from monopolizing the conversation though since doing so is generally a big turn-off.

At some point, Sidonia slides in the information that she has her own place nearby in town rather than staying with her relations out in the manor. She works it in at a point where it won't seem too loaded a thing to mention, like when she is engaged in an occasional mild complaint about the Sandpoint Valdemar's. Seeming bitter is also usually a turn-off.

If Adern doesn't seem to be biting at the bait she's been dangling when things are winding down for the night and it's time to go, Sidonia takes it in stride. She's maybe even a little impressed. While she would certainly wouldn't refuse a quick and easy victory, Sidonia has really been laying the groundwork for the next evening.

When they part ways outside the tavern, if they part ways, Sidonia mentions to Aldern that she will be caught up in having to spend some time with her family the next day.

"It's something official I think? Anyway, I don't know exactly where I'll be and when. Come find me, I might need to be rescued. I won't think you're a rogue for accepting a reward from me either. In fact, here is a down payment."

Sidonia rises up on her toes to reach, and gives Aldern a quick kiss on the lips.

Sidonia stands with her family, tired and thus a bit cranky, but not hung over.

"Oh come on, enjoy the day, smile, properly," she adds to Persival "No need to be so formal, enjoy the day, happy that it's completed, go kiss a girl, take her for a dance, what ever, let loose. Life is short, no matter what people you come from." she smirks, her hips slightly swaying to some silent tune

He smiles more earnestly at her words.

She slaps his shoulder with a smile "That's the way to go. All work and no play will make you a full boy!"

Mayor Deverin brings Sherrif Belor up next as she moves back down. He starts Ahem. um. Before we continue, I would like to remind you all of the solemn reason we are here today. Our church was burnt down. Father Tobyn lost his life in the blaze. His Ward, Nualia, the perpetrator of the fire, lost her life too. Erastil have mercy on her soul. None can truly know what motivated her, and none can guess what tortured her. But today we can look back on the late unpleasantness that brought me to this office, the murderous Stoot called The Chopper and The Fire that upended our lives and remember them with an eye for a more joyous future. Let us all bow our heads in a moment of silence for remembrance.

The crowd was quiet, with the exception of a few children who did not understand. but after a few minutes of silence, he lifted his gaze back up and went on.

As happy an occasion that this consecration is and the festival, I would like to caution you against enjoying yourself so much you forget your presence in a law-abiding town. Please drink responsibly and remember we are all neighbors here and respect their rights as they respect yours. Tonight after the festival is concluded, we will have a bonfire right here, using the remnants of this stand we give our speeches from as the fuel. Please have a care around it and do not suffer any burns.

He looks around for the next speaker Lonjiku Kaijitsu but you notice Mayor Deverin shakes her head saying in a whisper Hes not feeling well. Cyrdakk is taking his place

Spoiling this conversation because I feel it should finish properly

With Barbie, the night before:

After agreeing to lending Barbie one of his javelins, George is surprised. He never expected Barbie to feel that way. He tells her "Barb, I didn't know you felt this way." He tries thinking of some way he can give advice. Having travelled around, he isn't a stranger to sex and pleasure. Still, he has never felt particularly romantic towards anyone and never really thought about this. How could he ever give anyone advice about this?

He finally says "You know, I don't know much about this, but I do know you. I can bet my life that there is a whole bunch of people who would line up to kiss you. I don't think you need to worry about it too much. You have a kind heart and you're sweet. It's just that... you're young! Men your age are... you know... stupid! Hells, I was such an idiot at your age, and I'm not even that much older now! Just... give it time."

Hoping not to get into the subject of finding out the identities of fathers, he tries to lighten up the mood "And tomorrow there's a bunch of people in town. Who knows? Maybe you'll find a man that's smart enough to notice you. My only worry is that you're so eager to find someone, that you'll end up with an idiot who'll hurt you, just to say that you've found someone. Koye always says 'A lonely heart's more foolish than the court's fool.', so that's some advice from someone smarter than me at least." He hopes this will cheer her up.

Tiny George wakes up well rested. He is in a good mood and puts on a clean shirt over his weathered armor and loose pants over his bare strong legs. He straps on his oversized axe to his back and puts his trusted javelins in their quiver. He goes out and starts enjoying the festivities. He quickly finds Barbie and does a wellness check on her mood. He helps her set up Jargie's tent, then excuses himself to go once around town, chatting up some acquaintances. He gives a short not to Persival, acknowledging him. He doesn't expect to pair up with the serious investigator today. While the two make a good investigating duo, there's no crime today, at least none that he expects.

At the end of the rounds he goes to listen to the mayor's and sheriff's speeches.
