[PbP Gameday VI] GM Ladile and the Pathfinder Society Present: Portent's Peril (Inactive)

Game Master Lady Ladile

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Even in an age where prophecy rarely comes true, many in Varisia hold the mysterious Harrow cards and their predictions in high esteem. The Pathfinder Society’s ally Zeeva Foxglove recently received a Harrow reading as repayment for her generosity, but a rare card appeared and portended imminent doom. Now that these terrible predictions are coming true, Zeeva realizes she cannot weather this storm alone. It’s up to the PCs to save this friend and philanthropist—perhaps by changing fate entirely.
______

Greetings! This is a recruitment for the Pathfinder Society scenario "Portent's Peril" and will be run as part of Session #1 for the upcoming PbP Gameday VI. This is a 1-5 scenario, so any PC between the levels of 1 and 5 may play.

My name is GM Ladile and although I've been an active player on the Paizo forums for about three and 1/2 years, I've only been playing PFS for maybe two years and GMing a lot less than that. Although I'm still learning the ropes I'm excited to begin stepping up and running games for others and I'm looking forward to crafting a wonderful and entertaining story together! If you're still curious about me, feel free to scope out my profile and other games that I'm playing in or have been a player in, to determine if my general style of play might suit you - or ask questions, questions are good as well :)

Currently I have two seats reserved, leaving four available. However, I will be selecting at least one player that is either new to Organized Play, Play-by-Post, or both, for one of the remaining slots. The other three spots will be filled by lottery. If you're interested, please answer the following questions (borrowed and modified slightly from the lovely GM Hmm):

The Questions

1. Player Name:

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both?

3. What excites you most about playing in this game?

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies?

5. Are you able to post at least once a day?

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation?

7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you?
______

That should be everything! Thank you very much for your interest!

Oh Lady Ladile, this looks lovely! Your players will be so lucky to have you as a GM! Huzzah, you're going to be great!

Hmm

I have characters for whichever tier ends up being played.

The Questions

1. Player Name: Mark M.

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both? Nope. Been doing both for years. I agree with giving some new folks a priority if they want in.

3. What excites you most about playing in this game? Supposed ot have both investigation and combat. I like a mix.

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies? PFS, books, dog, grand-kids, movies with my wife, fishing, ballroom dance...

5. Are you able to post at least once a day? Absolutely. I check progress at least twice a day. Usually more.

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation? Not a problem. Bot me or leave me as 'frozen in indecision' until I get back.

7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you? Not usually an issue, but yes, I will let you know.

Hey GM Ladile, any GM that has the ringing endorsement of GM Hmm, is most likely, someone I'd like to play with. Therefore, I'll throw my hat in as an experienced GM and part time player. As to your questions...

1. Player Name: Lucklesshero
2. New to PBP/ Organized Play? Less than a year to both questions but have already GM'd 2 PBP PFS scenarios (am on my 3rd), 2 live PFS scenarios, and three books of an adventure path all for PFS credit. (therefore, I'm officially a 1 star GM but just barely)
3. What excites me about playing this game? The prospect of building an awesome collaborative story.
4.Tell you about me: 48 year old, married, live in NW west of US. Going back to school for my 3rd and final career change ( studying computer network operations) Not much of a video gamer (I did enjoy Civ 2 back in the day); but have played every iteration of D&D except 4th ed., outdoor activities include hiking, golf, and fishing.
5.Post once a day? You betcha! (as primarily a GM, I've had to post 2-4 times per day)
6.To Bot or not? Bot away! you won't need to much or at all with me though (hopefully)
7.notifications about absenteeism: Unless it's an emergency, I'll let the GM and the group at large know, if I will not be able to post for a few days.

Anyway..Cheers GM Ladile..
with or without me hope your game goes smashingly!

1. Player Name: NotEspi

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both? I wouldn't say as much. Been messing with PFS via play-by-post for a few years, although I do play less than I would like to.

3. What excites you most about playing in this game? You mean besides meeting a bunch of strangers and having an extended session of play-pretend? Mystery! Investigation! Doomsday prophecy! New people whom I can help out if needed! Where do I sign?

Other than that, we are running RotRL in my live gaming group and I am interested in Zeeva's character, since she was only briefly mentioned in the AP (so far, at least). And the rest of the Foxgloves had rather juicy fates associated with them.

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies? Assuming you mean in PF, I have done numerous scenarios both as GM and player. Too much to list, really. We meet up every other week and run a oneshot, or continue in one of our current APs, depends on the attendance. I also run a homebrew game for a smaller group in the PF universe. I do love me a good story: books, movies, tabletop are high on the list. Naturally, PC gaming is there as well. Weekend hikes (Walking bare-footed on moss is the sh- erm... stuff. Yeah, let's go with stuff.) and non-malicious messing about in general.

5. Are you able to post at least once a day? Multiple times if necessary. Unless I am somehow super busy, but I'd let you know in advance if something of the sort is in the pipeline. Even then I visit the boards at least once a day if possible.

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation? Of course! Although I don't have any plans for the near future that would prevent me from posting, so it probably won't be necessary. I have all the necessary numbers in the character profiles if needed.

7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you? Naturally. Making 6 other people wait without telling them why, and without a warning, is just lack of basic manners. Unless some sort of unfortunate situation is the cause, that is.

PS: Drop me a message if you wish to know something else or need help.

I'm definitely interested in playing Portent's Peril.

1. Player: Tim M
2. Am I new to PbP or Organized play? I don't think that I can claim that. I've been playing PFS for approximately 8 months and PbP for... just over two months. It feels like a lot longer.
3. What excites me about this game? I'm keenly interested in any reference to the Harrow deck lore (and I wait in vain for the Harrow Medium to be published in its full glory). This is one of those scenarios that I want to play before running so the mystery stays intact. I'm also keen to have you running it. I've enjoyed your characters.
4. Tell you about myself? I started with D&D Basic and AD&D 1st Ed. I joined online games and went to my first GenCon during AD&D 2nd Ed. I played the heck out of M:tG original release. Then I played and ran a custom RPG online for... a long time. I designed zones for MUDs, dabbled in White Wolf's games, Paladium, TMNTs. I played 3e abandoned 3.5e while I worked in Africa, stopped for a while for lack of opportunity, and then started playing and running Pathfinder about 6 years ago. My hobbies outside of RPGs include watching movies, playing video games, including Destiny, and trying to get my son to eat his dinner. Also running, writing, and sculpting.

5. How often can I post? Usually twice a day. More on days that I work nights.

6. May you bot my character? Sure.

7. Will I let you know about absences? Of course! I don't like it when players disappear without warning, I wouldn't do it to others (intentionally).

1. Player Name:FreakyFlyingElf21

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both?I am new to everything! My coworker introduced me to PBP and Organized Play, although this would be the first time playing Pathfinder Society.

3. What excites you most about playing in this game?New experience and learning.

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies?New to gaming...Other hobbies include outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hunting. Most importantly, sleeping.

5. Are you able to post at least once a day?I try to! I usually get busy on weekends, but I will still attempt to get on.

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation?Yes, please do!

7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you? Yes! Emergencies happen, but I will make every attempt to let y'all know.

I am in the process of looking up character creation rules, hopefully I will have a character built soon. Do you have a deadline for the recruitment?

Wow, thank you for the interest everyone - and GM Hmm for the encouragement! I shall do my best to live up to the hype :)

@FreakyFlyingElf21 - Welcome! You are the first new player (in one manner or another) to express interest here and so the reserved new player spot is yours. The game won't be starting until August 25th so you still have plenty of time to get your character created and everything set up :)

@Everyone else - To answer the question about recruitment, I will probably leave this open until July 5th or so in order to ensure that anyone who is interested has enough time to express it - especially since we're coming up on a holiday weekend here in the States and people will be busy with things that aren't Pathfinder!

To other new players: Please don't be discouraged from showing interest even though the new player spot is now filled! You may still enter into the lottery for the last three spots and so will have just as much chance as anyone else for a spot. Alternatively, please check out the New Player Game Finder spreadsheet, specifically set up with a list of games that are reserving spots for new players. Should all the current offerings end up filled, just put your name on the waitlist and the Gameday organizers will do their best to make room for you at a table or create a new one if there are enough people on the waitlist :)

If those are the questions than these are the answers...

1. Player Name: Zesdead.
2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both? New to Organised Play but certainly not new to PbP (5 years, give or take, on these boards as a GM and Player).
3. What excites you most about playing in this game? I have toyed with the idea of PFS (at first considering GM’ing) for a while… so why not give it a whirl in a PbP Gameday… and even better with a GM I know!!!
4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies? Generally board games rather than RPGs IRL (although I was part of a D&D 4E group for a couple of years) – just taught my 9yo Ticket to Ride and I am painting up a Zombicide (toning down the gore!!!) to give to him for next year’s birthday… outside of gaming it’s mountain biking and being outside with the kids… and plenty of good telly recently as well!!!
5. Are you able to post at least once a day? Yep, I ask that of my players in my GM’d games and I endeavour to do the same as a player.
6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation? Of course.
7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you? Yep – I certainly have a holiday planned over the summer however I am anticipating that there will be internet access (I stayed somewhere 2 years back with no access and it felt like stepping back in time!!!) And other than that, I'll keep an eye for busy times at work, etc

1. Player Name: Adam Warnock

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both? Nope, I actually got playing Pathfinder through the PFS while I was still in college back in 2011. I think I've misplaced most of my chronicle sheets though.

3. What excites you most about playing in this game? Hmm? Good question. I haven't tried PFS over PBP and I haven't played a PFS scenario in 5 years, so I think seeing how this works out would be the thing I'm most excited about beyond the obvious.

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies? I like to world build, write, draw (though I don't do that as much as I want or need to,) read, and play TTRPGs. I do web development for a living, so professional geek probably isn't too far off the mark. Other than some computer games, I've played a couple of GURPS games, have tried my hand at GMing FATE (which I think you were in) and have played Dungeon World a couple of times. Pathfinder is how I got started, so I know it the best.

5. Are you able to post at least once a day? Yep, typically between 6:30 PM - 11:00 PM CDT on weekdays and throughout the day on weekends.

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation? Absolutely.

7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you? Yes, though I'm a homebody and work has been slow so that's not likely to come up.

Nice to see so many new (new to me at least) faces as well as a couple of familiar ones! I also want to thank everyone for being willing to humor me and answer these questions; I know it may seem an odd thing to ask since I'm running a lotto but in addition to giving me an idea of how well someone follows directions it also lets me learn a little more about the people that I'll be playing with, whether in this game or another, whether as a GM or a player. Though there's some overlap, I've noticed that the 'PFS PbP crowd' and the 'Other PbP crowd' are largely made up of two different sets of posters - and a lot of the folks who do PFS here on the forums I haven't had the pleasure of 'meeting' yet :)

Huh, never even thought about the community being segmented along those lines.

Just out of curiosity, when are you planning on the drawing?

Although I said July 5th in a previous post I've been thinking it over and decided that I'll run the lotto on Monday, July 3rd; that will have left the thread open for exactly a week which I'm hoping will be plenty of time for anyone interested to post their interest!

1. Player Name:
Brant V.

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both?
Both. I've only played homegames, and am very interested in the more narrative based, slower paced play that PbP provides.

3. What excites you most about playing in this game?
The synopsis makes this scenario seem like nothing I've experienced before. Ties to the occult classes also piqued my interest.

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies?
30-something, married with a 1.5 year old son who is my entire world. In addition to being a husband and new-ish father, in my spare time, when not playing games, I'm training 14th century german longsword or 18th century British military sabre. I'm part of a historical fencing re-enactment company, and am training to compete in my first HEMA tournament this August. Fencing with real (albeit blunted) swords. Fun fun fun.

5. Are you able to post at least once a day?
Most definitely. Morning, lunchbreak, and late at night. I'm a night person, usually going to bed post-midnight.

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will bot players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to 'bot' your character as needed in combat or another situation?
Absolutely. I'd give priority to the shared narrative.

7. Do you promise to tell me about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can bot you?
Absolutely. Emergencies aside, having a phone on my person at almost all hours ensures that I'll be a swipe away from being able to respond.

Okay! As it is now Monday morning here it's time for me to get this show on the road and fill out the last three spots for the game. Here we go!

Spoiled For Neatness:

1=ElterAgo
2=Lucklesshero
3=NotEspi
4=Blake's Tiger
5=Zesdead
6=AdamWarnock
7=zebeev

3d7 ⇒ (2, 5, 6) = 13

lucklesshero, Zesdead and AdamWarnock - congrats! Feel free to go ahead and check in to Gameplay & Discussion now if you wish. To everyone else: I'm so sorry that I didn't have enough room to take everyone this time around! You will be the first ones I reach out to should I need alternate players for this game.

It may take some time but I do plan to run other games in the future as well and I will give anyone that didn't get into this game a little extra consideration the next time I run a recruitment or lottery. Thank you again for your interest everyone and I wish you all happy gaming! :)

Alrighty! You folks enjoy yourselves!
