Insidion snarls as the statues move to attack. Brandishing his greatsword like an implement of death, he moves to attack the statue to the south.
With his typical rage, he swings the blade violently.

With one of the statues down in the pit, Insidion focuses all his rage on the other guardian. His great sword sparks as it hits the guardian.
Dekion assists the tiefling, but his long-range attack doesn't penetrate the defenses of the statue.

Enora removes the green lamp from the statue.
"Thanks hun!" Enora tells Dekion. "I know the red lamp is in the wrong spot. Can you grab that one and bring it here?"

Enora will head to the statue that should have the green lamp on it. If its hand is free, she'll put the green lamp on it. Otherwise she'll remove whatever's on it.
DM Kludde |
Enora manages to switch the green lamp around, and illuminate the emerald-shaped carving.
DM Kludde |
Enora managed to switch on the green light, while dekion manages to turn the red light to its right position It's reasonable you can do that with a full-round action. All that is left to position are the orange and blue lights.
One of the guardian keeps assaulting Insidion, while the other tries to climb out of the pit, but makes little progress.

I get it.
Dekion figures out that one of the statues as shares features with Amenopheus; placing a lamp in that statues' hand would correctly illuminates the sapphire carving with blue light.
Another statue resembles the ruby sage:; that statue correctly illuminates the ruby carving with red light.
Going to assume that Dekion and Enora spend this round fixing the other two lamps
DM Kludde |
Dekion and Enora put the last lamps into place, illuminating the four carving in their correct order, forming a gemstone rainbow. The guardians cease their hostilities, and move back to their original position. Amenopheus reappears and apologizes for not fully understanding what happened and why, but he recommends continuing on before more of the sanctum’s guardians decide to attack.
The door to the last chamber opens.
A broad, simple, flat-topped column of sandstone rises from a deep pit in this circular, domed chamber with a white tiled floor. Though no wind can be felt, particles of sand slowly blow around the pit as if circulated by a lazy breeze, their movement creating a soft, rasping susurrus.
The only occupant of this room is a Garundi woman bedecked in the style of an Osirian noblewoman. “Welcome home,” she says to Amenopheus with a warm smile.
I have followed your endeavours, Amenopheus, and those of you companions. I've seen you receive the aid of the ruby sage, and the troubles you've gone through to get here. The two aspis men? She looks at Amenopehus, who just nods.
Good, the woman says.
Amenopheus then voices his desire to rebuild the Jeweled Sages—a goal that he and Tahonikepsu share; however, despite this common ground, the two disagree on many nuances.
First, they disagree about the true cause of the Jeweled Sages’ destruction, which quickly evolves into a disagreement about the lost order’s hierarchy. Amenopheus interprets the collapse of the Jeweled Sages as an unfortunate accident driven by outside forces, namely the invasion of Osirion by the Kelish thousands of years ago. Had it not been for this calamity, the Jeweled Sages would have continued
to thrive.
To Tahonikepsu, the invasion and subsequent purge of the Jeweled Sages reflects a critical weakness in the organization. She posits that, spread out and without a strong leader, the order could not respond quickly and effectively to a new threat. Amenopheus defends the order’s egalitarian organization structure as a key source of strength, allowing each member to act independently when needed. The Diamond Sage retorts that without consistent, decisive leadership, the Jeweled Sages will always be vulnerable and disorganized whenever a new threat strikes.
Second, the two sages disagree on how to rebuild the organization. Both accept that they will need to recover additional sage jewels and recruit new prospective sages. Amenopheus believes that the next generation of sages must be chosen from among the most learned scholars. Not only does this match the founding principles of the organization, but he theorizes that anything less than a well-trained mind would be unable to harnessthe millennia of memories within each sage jewel. To Tahonikepsu, the thought of populating the Jeweled Sages with cloistered academics might allow for easier retention of historic facts but would undermine the sages’ ability to actually use their knowledge to better the world. The Diamond Sage would rather recruit a generation of active and innovative sages who could act as advisors to powerful leaders, read the current events to predict future decisions, and participate in making history rather than simply recording it.
I see you talents, Amenopheus the woman says, but you've lost the trust of Osirion's ruler. How would we reclaims our place in Osirion, if the ruler himself disagrees?
Amenopheus displays his own sketicism Moments ago, I did not know, have never met you. Ceding leadership of the restored Jeweled Sages to you seems like an irresponsible gambit, particularly when nobody knows of your qualifications, background, or motives.
Tahonikepsu takes a step back and changes form. “I present my credentials,”she retorts, as she turns into a draconic form. “Now we are strangers no more.”
My kind of dragon she explains to the pathfinders is dedicated to guarding history and time itself. Now, ar you satisfied?
In summary, Amenopheus wishes to recreate the Jeweled Sages as they were in ages past, whereas Tahonikepsu seeks innovation.
Tahonikepsu turn to the pathfinders and says I invoke the convocation of sages, an old tradition of the sages to decide the organization’s future with a vote. Each Jeweled Sage receives one vote: since you, as a group, represent the ruby sage, you get the decisive vote, as Amenopheus and me will no doubt stand by our own point of view. So tell me, what is your choice?
You've defeated the last encounter, and I will start reporting while you busy yourself with more important things, such as the future of Osirion's jeweled sages.
Enora. Level 4 Enora. |
"Firstly, it is an honor to meet the Sages. Thank you for letting us get this vote." Enora gives a quick bow. She's pretty much starstruck and overwhelmed by the raw spectacle. Plus, a dragon!
"I'd vote for innovation, of course. Tradition is good. Tradition helps build order. But tradition can hold you back. Ah wouldn't be here if I stuck to my home's tradition. And personally, discovering new things and discoveries are much more fun than closed meetings."
Enora sides with Tahonikepsu.
Race Draxus |
"Vote?" the confused fighter asks, swallowing hard. "Ummmm...I guess I agree with Enora. As a military man, I appreciate the value in a strong leader instead of inning things by committee, provided the leader wants to lead for the right reasons."
Insidion |
"I have little respect for tradition for tradition's sake. Take what works with the old system, and change where it doesn't work," Insidion adds.
Voting for innovative.
Reinor |
"Well, looks like my friends decided already. Progress is good and a strong leader is always better, if he is a suitable person, of course. But still, there is much wisdom in what Amemopheus has to offer and you should listed to what he has to offer"
innovative as well
DM Kludde |
Amenopheus sees the vote sway in favour of Tahonikepsu I see the wisdom in that, and I must respect the traditions of the jewelled sages. While I stand by my opinion, you have earned my respect through your actions, and I will support you.
That is the end of this epic tale. The story of the jewelled sages continues in season 6 (Look for 6-04, the Beacon Below, which is a high tier game). Thanks, once again, for the fun run!
