Ah-ha. Now I see your point, Korum. And yes, I rule that you are correct.
So....1 point of ability score damage - no effect. Each 2 point increment of ability score damage incurs a cumulative -1 penalty which, when multiplied by your HD, gives you your lowered maximum HP score. I got it now. Thanks for helping to clarify - not belabouring - this point, Korum.
So....
I think I got it.

Hey guys, just letting you know I've had a family emergency come up, and unexpected house guests. I will be unable to post Saturday. Hopefully, I should be able to post late Sunday night and again late Monday night. I will be able to post regularly by Tuesday. Sorry for holding up the game, and feel free to bot me as needed.
Thank you for your patience.
A game comment: Layaali will recast Virtue on herself and reactivate her halo before moving on, when everyone is ready.

Ant Haul doesn’t increase Strength scores, so I don’t think it’ll work to toss boulders.

My halo is active, which glows like a light spell.

So I've been thinking about Knowledge checks about creatures, and since this is our game, I'd like to suggest a home rule. Follow me and see if you like it.
When you make a Knowledge Check, I calculate how much you succeed the Knowledge check by. Any successful check identifies the creature and gives you some general flavour about it.
You get a number of points equal to the difference between the check (10 + CR level, rounded up) and what you rolled. You can then spend the points as follows:
Header
Name and CR
XP
Race, Class, Level
Alignment, Size, Type
Init and Senses
Aura
Defence
AC
hp
Saving Throws
Defensive abilities, DR, Immune, Resist, SR
weaknesses
Offense
speed
space/reach
special attacks
spell like abilities
spells known/prepared
Statistics
ability scores
base atck, cmb, cmd
feats
skills
languages
SQ
Ecology
environment
organization
treasure
*Special abilities
special abilities
Bold sections cost 2 points, but reveals everything in that section. Special abilities cost 1 point EACH - you cannot buy the section, in other words.
I will not give you actual numbers - this is character knowledge, not player knowledge that is being revealed. I promise to give you useful information, however. For example, I won't tell you that their saving throws are +1 Will +2 Reflex +2 Fortitude, but I will tell you that 'Will is their weakest save and that their other two saves are similar to your strongest save'.
It might require some creativity on my part, but I can handle it.
What do y'all think? Check out my response to Uzma in the Gameplay thread to see how it works.

Yeah, I'm cool with that.

Hey folks. I'm writing to all of my games to let you know that I'm going through some stuff right now. A dear friend of mine just passed away, and the past few days have been rather hectic, with friends and family visiting from out of town, a memorial service this afternoon, etc.
I'm not abandoning anyone, but I do appreciate your patience and understanding while I take a couple of days to get things sorted. I estimate I'll be back sometime before the end of this week.
Thank you.

Take care, Korum.

Take your time, Korum. I'll bot you in the meantime. Thanks for reaching out; we will be thinking of you.

I'm thinking (again) of recruiting a 5th player - specifically a roguish type, as your team doesn't have anyone with that skill set currently. Thoughts? I've not had a ton of luck with my recruitment to date, so I'm doing targeted recruitment by browsing posts and looking for people hungry for adventure with a lack of dropped games and a good posting ethic.
Drael Kapernos
Korum take care, I hope you're doing okay.
Recruitment sounds like a good idea to me, I'd definitely appreciate having someone who can handle that kind of stuff in the party.

Uzma, you seem to enjoy casting spells in the midst of melee combat. You can cast defensively to avoid Attacks of Opportunity (AoOs - sometimes called AoAs by your dimwitted GM), but perhaps Uzma is just reckless like that...?
GM Dinketry

I’m hunting for when you cast virtue, Layaali. Could you point it out to me?

Ah-ha! I got it. Nevermind. I forgot to add in the extra hp for both Uzma and Layaali from their virtue spells. Uzma, you have 8/10 hp currently. Layaali, you have 9/8 hp currently.

One other FYI: I've successfully (hopefully) recruited someone as our 5th character - pretty well designed to fit with our theme and the needs of the group. They may be introduced soon...

Due to an incredibly busy weekend filled with a Christmas celebration, two birthday parties, and many hospital visits, I will be unable to post from December the 16th through till December the 18th. My posting should resume as normal on Tuesday the 19th. Apologies if this slows down the game. Feel free to bot me as needed.
I'll try to sneak a post in on Sunday, since we're in combat, but I can't make any promises.
Thanks for understanding, and have a great weekend, guys.
The exception to this is if someone needs healing. Layaali has no spells left (except orisons, of course), and one scroll of cure light wounds remaining. She also has five uses of channel energy, but she doesn't have selective channeling, so she has to either be VERY careful with her placement in order to not heal the pugwampi, or she has to use it out of combat.
Layaali's not afraid to die, and will put her life in danger in order to help her companions or even just give the enemy a different target to her friends can flee--believing that self-sacrifice and martyrdom are the greatest honours bestowed by her god. ...But please try not to kill me while I'm gone. Or, at least let her get brought back to life spontaneously by her deity! Maybe with no eyes at all this time! Haha.
Korum Scratcher
I'm back, and will await my turn. I've read the combat so I'm pretty sure I know what's going on. Thank you for your patience, folks.
Razif al-Akkuya
Hello! I was invited by Dinketry to join this campaign, and I'm extremely excited to be a part of it!
My name is Henkjan, I'm Dutch but currently living in Finland for an internship.
It's a bit embarrassing to admit, but I have very little experience in both playing Pathfinder and play by post campaigns. I've been into TTRPGS for just about 2 years, but most of that has been 5E. I've always had a lot of interest in Pathfinder and Golarion, though. I listened to a certain popular actual play podcast, and am lucky enough to get to start GMing a Dead Suns campaign starting next week.
In any case, I'll try my best to be a reliable player, both in post frequency as in post quality. As such, I'll always be open to feedback.
Thank you very much for having me, and I'm looking forward to a great time with all of you!

Welcome, Henkjan!
I'm in New Zealand, myself. I've only been doing this play-by-post thing for about six months, and this Legacy of Fire campaign is my first AP. Strangely enough, I also have a Dead Suns AP that I'm currently GMing - I'm enjoying it immensely.
I've been playing PF awhile now. Started with D&D awhile ago when I was young and stupid. Now I'm older and stupid. I still love this game.
This would be a good opportunity for the group to re-acquaint themselves. I believe Korum and Uzma are the only two original players in this group - not even I can claim that status.
It'd also be a good idea to list what people's plans are for end-of-the-year holidays WRT availability for posting. For example, I'm going to be heading to my in-laws farm for Xmas in a week's time, and I'll likely be there for a week. Though Internet exists out there, the demands of concentrated family-time might curtail my posts a bit from Dec 23 - Dec 29.
Anyhow, welcome again Henkjan!
Razif al-Akkuya
I'll be spending my time at my girlfriend's from Dec 22 till Jan 7, and I think I'll still be very much able to post pretty much every day, even on Christmas: our celebrations this year promise to be pretty quiet, or at least quiet enough to sneak off to my phone. If there are any circumstances that prevent me to post on a day, I'll try to communicate that asap!
Korum Scratcher
Hello, Razif! I'm in Idaho, in the United States. My holidays are primarily going to be busy for work reasons, since I work for a security company and thefts occur in abundance during the Christmas season. But, I should be able to post just about daily, now that life has sorted itself out for me.
I've been playing since the 3.0 days, when I was young and dumb.
My group primarily plays through Paizo Adventure Paths - we've done Carrion Crown, Iron Gods, Hell's Rebels, Strange Aeons, and I'm currently GMing Ruins of Azlant, which I *highly* recommend, as one of the better ones I've played/experienced (2nd only to Hell's Rebels, IMO).

Just as an FYI to all: I keep Campaign Info pretty-much up to date under the Campaign Info header, including names of important NPCs (like Almah).
Razif al-Akkuya
Ah, both Hell's Rebels and Ruins of Azlant are paths I really hope to run in their entirity someday, along with Ironfang Invasion. They all seem absolutely fantastic. Rebels is actually the way I got into Golarion at first: because of the Humble Bundle deal that came with half of the Hell's Rebels path.

Good to know! I wasn't sure where to look and didn't particularly want to sift through 300 posts to find her name. Thank you, sir :D
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid
Welcome, Razif!
It's a very busy time fo year for me at work, and the holidays will be no less busy, if more pleasant! So I will get a chance to post occasionally, but not systematically, unfortunately...
Layaali Twice-Born
Hello, Henkjan! Welcome to the game.
I've only been playing on pbp a short time--two months, maybe? But I really enjoy it. I used to GM a lot IRL, but with all of my group having children, the time for gaming has dwindled. We get to gather once a week--if scheduling permits--so I turned to pbp as a way to get some gaming in. Plus, it's nice to play instead of always GMing.
As for the holidays, I'll be busy from the 22nd though to the 26th at least (though I might have time for a few posts, I doubt it). I expect posting to resume as normal by the 27th or 28th.
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid
2 people marked this as a favorite.
I am back! Happy new year! All the best to all of you!
...but Uzma isn't feeling very well, is he?! The thing is, I didn't have enough coins to buy him a computer, so he can't check his email... XD
Razif al-Akkuya
I just realized I haven't been adding my strength modifier to melee damage rolls. oops.
However, since I've already done this roll, I will do it starting next turn. I'm not a fan of changing rolls to my favor after the fact: I made a mistake, gotta live with it.
GM Dinketry
|
I don't think you can avoid adding your strength modifier. It's an adjustment that happens automatically - it's not voluntary. Even if you were attacking non-lethally, you'd add your STR modifier to damage rolls. I'll simply add in the extra damage.
Razif al-Akkuya
Well, I won't object on more damage :) I thought there was a reason why I didn't add my strength mod, but on review I realized it must've just been a dumb mistake. Sorry!
GM Dinketry

I absolutely LOVE how Uzma is consistently reassuring you all that he has not lost his mind.
!!!
Razif al-Akkuya
Razif is absolutely not convinced but he has absolutely no idea how to deal with it so he just kinda
lets it happen
Razif al-Akkuya
It's deeply frustrating that from reading the thread I know exactly what to do with the staff but Razif would have 0 way of knowing this :"D

This problem with Layaali was why I was surprised that you offered to take the middle watch period. You weren’t going to get any benefits from the rest, but I thought that was what you meant by the sacrifice of your faith.
Layaali Twice-Born
I didn't realize you needed to sleep for that time uninterrupted to heal. Either way, Layaali's all about martyrdom. There's no way she wouldn't offer to take a watch period, even if it meant she wouldn't heal.
Still, Drael's covering for her and she's weak enough she'll accept his help so she can heal up a bit.
In that case she will use her last channel of the day to heal everyone before bed. Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Thanks!

I will be initiating GM-Bot mechanics while in dungeon crawl mode (or in the future, during combat) for any player who hasn't posted or told me that they wouldn't be able to post for 24 hours or more.
Just trying to keep momentum going forward. Nothing but love.
