I think I have Noravia saying 'let's go back' while Jillian is saying' let's pick a door'.

The other three have not pronounced themselves yet...

This is 'kind of important' so I'm going to wait for at least three people that say 'the same thing' rather than me just rolling some dice in order to get a decision.

Tillia considered their options. Noravia wanted to run back to the others to make sure they were alright while Jillia wanted to see if they could find Hetamon quickly. She decided that it would be worth taking a look at each door through more mystical senses. Speaking up Tillia said, "Let me check each door for magic, just in case."

Cast detect magic and examine each door to see if there is an aura and if so focus enough to try and ID it.

I'm fine going back... if Hetamon's dead he'll remain that way. Perhaps we could take the whole circus here with us, so they could remain a few steps back while we finish exploring? Or we escort them back while trying to make sure an invisible flying devil isn't trailing us from the sky... which would mean we'd have to take them to a secondary base and not risk revealing our main strongholds, such as they are.

Well, it's his main that's at risk so I don't mind he gets to make the call :-)

Jillian barely jumped out of the way in time, as Hob crashed through the door. Collecting herself, the girl made herself ready to peek inside, and fight or rescue as necessary.

There's logic to it, believe it or not. At time t=0 we see the note. Time to walk back is n. Time to teleport is 1. Time to echolocate a room is 1-2 per room(r1, r2). Therefore if n>1+r1+r2 Hob should check the doors and teleport. He could have just teleported, but I'm hopeful that she's trying to deceive us. If she's already out there, she has had the whole time it took us to get in (n+5) to do something and it is too late anyway. Sort of risking Rizolla though - Caleb has an 11 round Blink SLA.
One thing Hob does know - hanging around talking is burning precious time

Action 1
Hob closed his eyes, concentrating on his newly honed hearing. A moment later, confident there was no-one in the room, he charged at the other door. "MAKE WAY!" he shouted at the woman still crouched by the door.

"COME AND DIE, WITCH!"

"NO!" Jillian ran to Hetamon's side, checking for signs of life, knowing there would be none. Deep down, she had known this was a possibility. though she'd been hoping that the devil was being metaphorical when she'd referred to him as heartless. Unseen tears tracking down her unseen cheeks, she tenderly stroked his cheek. "I'm so sorry, my friend. We will avenge you, or die trying."

Wiping her tears, Jillian stood, and followed the rampaging elephant that was Hob. Now was not the time to grieve; it was the time to fight. Assuming, of course, the devil would make herself known so they could fight her.

She took a quick look around the book binding room; seeing nothing of interest, the continued to follow Hob to the second door. It would be good to fight.

Startled by Hob's rampant destruction of the doors Tillia found herself stepping out of the way quickly. When he took out the second door and she saw what was inside Tillia gave a low cry of despair. It was Hetamon and it looked like the demoness really had cut out his heart. "No," she said quietly. She may not have pursued Hetamon like she intended at first but this still came as a blow to her. She knelt by his body and took his hand gently as she said, "We will destroy that monster that killed you, and I swear I will find a way to bring you back."

Tillia stayed with Hetamon's body while the others checked the second room and when they were done said, "We need to take him with us, we can't leave him here like this." There were signs of tears on her face as she looked up and continued, "I'll find a way to have him brought back, I won't leave him like this and I won't leave him here."

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

"And so we shall," Eirik murmured, soothingly, not voicing the concern that healing jobs were piling up... the Major-turned-vampire, their two addled friends and now this... the monk didn't know if removing the poor man's heart would make such efforts harder or not, though.

I'm wondering if I want to ask whether we screwed up royally or if saving Hetamon was about as likely as killing Nox underneath the Phantasmagorium...

Good stuff here but we need to make a choice.

a) continuing to explore one of the doors, which one (see map); or

b) go above to check on 'the fools'.

Forvian can take on the demoness, right? :)

Orc Blacksmith HP (22/25) Fort (+5) Ref (+2) Will (+5/+7) AC [23/25] (20/11/19) & (shield.+2 or +4) CMD (20) Initiative (+1) Perception (+8) Darkvision Scent

Hob's taking out his anger, fear and frustration on the doors at the moment. He's going from room to room looking for something to kill. He's doing the next-closest door each time. That means he'll go through A6. If that's a dead end he'll hit the double doors.
I think everyone else is doing other things though.
I'm okay with him being called off now Hetamon is found, so long as someone tells him this mission is accomplished. In that case he'll teleport himself and up to three others out to the 'fools'.
If Hetamon's heart is missing then his body is not 'whole' and cannot be raised. We are therefore looking for his heart, though I have little hope of finding it.
Caleb, Riz, Ves and Forvian aren't completely helpless. Ves especially still has a full complement of will save spells that could all but end the fight.

There are ways around the lack of heart issue though. Resurrection, regenerate then raise, etc. Post coming int he morning.

Noravia was filled with guilt at the sight of Hetamon's body. If we had only pushed on a little harder, if only we hadn't stayed so long away! Could we have saved him? Her mind ran through a thousand possibilities, each of them ending with Hetamon still alive.

As Hob bashed his way through the rooms, it took all of Noravia's will power to stay with the group, and not to run back to Caleb. She was painfully aware of how vulnerable they were, just waiting at the end of the tunnels. It had been risky to send them through the city, but now it seemed a lower risk than staying put. One more door, she promised herself, if we don't find her, then we go back.

Just chatted with Shari, so thought I'd add this for her. I'm okay with whatever the group decides, Jillian wouldn't be trying to call the shots yet. It sounds like Hetamon already is trying to bash through the other doors at the end of A6 - if there's nothing there, then we can go check on the fools.

Hey everyone! I got really good news at the opthalmologists' today. He is very pleased with how I'm healing. He said that I can go back to reading, etc. provided I don't overdo it. Thankfully Angie has kept me up to date with what's going on. I will be checking the game again but still have to limit my screen time.

Noravia, racked with guilt and worry, needed to find something to focus her attention on to keep her mind busy. Even though she was fairly sure about the answer, she inspected Hetamon's body to see what she could discern. A few times her vision blurred as tears threatened to spill over but she was determined to help the Rose of Kintargo in any way she could.

I wasn't sure if anyone commented or asked about either the blood trail or the gnawing on the hag. If the blood trail was from Hetamon then why bring it out into the other room? What was gnawing on the hag?

Eirik had to blink his eyes to convince him he wasn't seeing things as this giantic lizard-creature raised its head and prepared to surge at them. 'What on Golarion is that thing and how did it end up here?' the monk thought, but at least the creature's intentions were clear enough - it prepared to attack them on sight. Thus, no hard feelings when he struck back. As he dodged past Hob's bulk he noted the remains of a greenish-hued arm the creature had apparently been gnawing on, but such details would have to wait until the immediate problem had been put to rest.

Let's go right through the enemy to its far side to open up another spot in melee... and Eirik can tank whatever's waiting its turn behind Monters number 1... Flying Kick and acrobatics and 30' free move should just get Eirik behind the critter, at which point he'll flurry... non-lethal, just in case this is someone's pet we wouldn't want to anger.

Dodging under the jaws that tried to take a bite out of him, the monk skidded to a stop on the wet stones, eliminating the last of his momentum by jumping on the partially collapsed wall and springing back to launch a roundhouse kick on the creature's head, then ducked low to slam a combination of heavy palm strikes at the beast's left leg, seeking to cripple the creature.

Instead she made to hurry after him resolved to mention this to someone who might know more about what it was since religion wasn't really her thing as it were.

Action 3
Hearing the incredible roar and not seeing it's source well because of hob she called out, "What's that?! I can't see it." She knew that Hob would charge whatever it was and she didn't want to risk losing another so soon so she said, "Hob, let's just go back, I don't want anyone else to die right now, not with what just happened. There's no social rolls on PCs; we roleplay it out.

As a general note, I know some of you have played this AP and/or have access to the books but please do your best to remain 'in character'.

Noravia's heart agreed with Tillia one-hundred percent but Hob had smashed all the doors and there was no longer any way to contain the creature. "We can't let that thing out onto the streets of Kintargo. As much as I would love to return to the others sooner than later, this must be dealt with."

Noravia felt a glimmer of hope as she saw the basin. She recognized it as the Dawnflower Font and Sarenrae had close ties with healing. Not surprising, the waters had been fouled and no longer held healing properties. The inquisitor stared at the font and a small spark of an idea stoked her waning hope. "I can work with Elsbeth to consecrate this once again. If we can do that then maybe its previously potent healing magic can be restored. Milani knows that we could use all the healing that we can." Images of everyone in queue that needed healing or restoration on some level paraded through Noravia's mind starting with Caleb and finishing with Hetamon. Could it be potent enough to raise the dead?

Ok, let's use that Barskin the next chance Eirik gets... not this round, since he might be needed to bash the critter down.

Also, won't be posting much before Saturday, as I'm going on a quick company trip for a couple days. NPC Eirik & all if you get fed up waiting for a post that might not come.

Wiping sweat from his brow, Eirik glanced from the beast to the narrow crawl way leading further in past the collapsed tunnel. So much for the beast having wandered in – the hags or the devil had to have brought it in for some purpose. ”Dead end, at least to you, my large friend,” Eirik said, glancing at the massively augmented smith. ”You want to get through, you’ll have to wait for your spells to fade or do some shovel work. So. Either some of the smaller and nimbler of us take a look, we all go back to see if the devil’s threat was serious or just a final stab to make us worry, or split up and do both. Since we already found poor Hetamon, I think whatever remains here will keep for a few moments.”

I think the devil is just bluffing, but we *could* just go and get everyone inside before we finish the investigation… that way, if enemy attacks, Caleb & Rizolla & the NPCs are only one room away.

So I'm unclear, did the dino die, pass out, or is the fight still happening? The recap implied it dropped but it doesn't seem to be the case from the section at the bottom with our statuses.

N/M, I just answered my own question after reading the recap more thoroughly.

Action 1
Tillia was inclined to agree that the creature might be a threat, but she also knew she could do something about the problem without hurting it. When everyone leapt to the attack she was sure her chance was gone. "If you don't want the creature to be a threat why don't you let me try something before you start trying to kill it." She moved to where she could see and said, "So help me if this fails because of the need to kill something you all seem to have I'm not going to be pleased." Once she could see the creature she spoke rapidly and gestured ending with an extended hand as though offering friendship. The magic flowed out and into the creature's mind as she attempted to charm it, despite the fighting still going on.

Charm Monster, wills save DC 21, it gets a +5 since it is being attacked/threatened by my allies.

If the spell takes:

Tillia felt the magic take hold and called out, "Stop! I have it, back away from the creature and don't attack it." She looked at the creature and said in a soft, soothing, voice, "Calm, let them back away and we won't fight you any longer." She tried to make gestures to get the creature to back away from the fight and hoped that she could get it to understand.

Opposed Cha check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Trying to get the dino to let the others back away and calm it down.

If the spell fails:
Tillia looked sadly at the creature and said, "I'm sorry, I could have done something to keep you down here and not on the streets, I guess there's no helping this now." There was a tear in her eye as she realized this poor beast was going to die for nothing but their own bumbling mistakes.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 2:

No one used a potion of See Invisibility and I think Jillian has them both

Noravia didn't like the idea of being split but she followed Hob. The initial threat seemed to be over and she wanted to return but figured it would be hard to stop the monstrous mage. Almost uselessly she asked, "How much more? The creature is dead and we should get back."

Maybe Eirik can take a quick look at the end of the NE passage since he seems to be there anyways according to the map.

With Noravia at her elbow, Jillian had to be careful how she moved. At least the creature was distracted by the monk attacking behind him. Jillian showed the creature no mercy - no wooing it with words, or hoping to knock it unconscious for the slayer. She needed to kill something, to release the rage over Hetamom's death, and this creature would do nicely.

Chopping hard with her sword, she followed up by crashing her heavy shield into the lizard's face. Both sword and shield skittered across its hard scales. Swearing, Jillian kept her momentum and sliced at its leg; again the tough scaled hide turned the blade away. Shouting in frustration, she threw her weight into her shield and viciously bashed into the lizard's nearest leg. Finally she connected, and the creature went down on one leg, hobbled by her attack.

2nd Sword: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 12 - 2 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
2nd shield bash: 1d20 + 11 - 5 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 - 5 - 2 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Can somebody check my math? My attacks with sword are +17/+12, and shield are +16/+11. So if I'm doing both, I'm at a -2 to all attacks, and I believe my 2nd attack with my 2nd weapon (shield) is at an additional -5 (Imp TWF).If I did it right, I'll copy it so I can paste next time.

Jillian:
Those numbers look OK. Don't forget to move (5' step) when needed and take advantage of flanking. If you added flanking then your last two attacks would have hit and you would have added 6d6 due to sneak attack. Don't worry; I took that into account. You're welcome.

Since Hob couldn't go any further, Noravia stopped following and returned to the dinosaur to look over the strange creature while Eirik scouted ahead. But she barely glanced at it, her mind constantly being drawn back to Caleb.

Eirik wrote:
“We could get through there but I think it just leads to the ruins above. What are we doing now?”

Noravia was quite adamant at this point. "We go back and check on the others. Or at least, I'm going back. We've been gone far too long already."

As the others looked down the collapsed tunnels, Jillian examined the strange creature she had just helped bring down. "You were a real beauty," she murmured, admiring the long, sharp talons. "Wait, what's this?" One of the talons sported a ring - surely large reptiles rarely wore jewelry. Looking closer, she saw an amulet around its neck.

Taking them, she approached Tillia and asked, "Our friend there was wearing these. Surely not something it picked up on its own. What do you make of it?"

Jillian nodded. "It seems our quarry has fled. We should take Hetamon, and return to the others. Once they are in a safe place, we can return, should it be needed."

So, we've checked this place out, then?
"Hold hands. I'll take you back now." Hob offered, an eerily low tone to his shifted voice. "Bring them back here."

Teleport Hob + three. Maybe leave two here to be safe. Will take Noravia and Jillian. Eirik can look after Tillia. Sounds okay?

Tillia turned from the carnage as her companions beat the creature to death. Their need to kill was understandable but that didn't mean that she agreed with it, especially given what they were fighting. She looked at the jewelry in curiosity and cast a spell as she studied each one to identify them as she said woodenly, "It tells me that the creature was important to someone and didn't deserve to be brutalized like that when we stormed into it's layer." With the fighting done he also saw the hag arm and continued, "And that tells me this might have been an ally instead of an enemy. It would take more than a beast to rip the arm from a hag like that and live."

Somewhat uncertain what Hob meant to do, Jillian sheathed her sword and hooked her shield onto her back. She then took Noravia's hand, and Hob's enormous paw.

Noravia shook her head, "Believe what you want Tillia but both hags were dead when we left and their bodies were intact. That creature ripped the arm off a freshly dead body so it was probably hungry rather than acting like an ally. It's a shame it had to die but I highly doubt it could have been reasoned with and even then, where would it have lived?"

The inquisitor sighed in relief as Hob took hold of her and Jillian, "Let's go. No time to waste. Eirik and Tillia, if you don't want to stay here, make your way back to Hetamon. We'll need to take him with us when we go." Noravia's voice cracked when she mentioned Hetamon but then they were gone as Hob's magic took hold.

I'm ok with leaving Eirik and Tillia temporarily behind, if they are. Or they can come the slower route by foot back into the sewers and meet up with us.
