Phaedra Valerius |
Phaedra replies to Andre: "Yes, that demon got me good a couple time."
To the imp: "So, Gantry sent you to check up on us? I don't suppose he sent any additional orders or bits of information? And no, the issue isn't resolved yet, but we are still working on it."
Sazu Magauge |
"We've made contact with both troublesome groups, though we're having better luck with one than the other." Sazu explains.
"We are currently trying to track down a specific indivual that may be a cornerstone to one of the groups power structure.."
Andre Karoxin |
"No, nothing for now," Andre growls, "Unless Gantry is smart enough to call in higher powers on this. There could be something serious in these woods. But if he's too busy sitting on his thumbs, tell him thanks for nothing, we'll take it from here."
Moving over to Phaedra, he murmurs a prayer and circles his hands over her head, then lightly touches her shoulders.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Of course. I'll channel again rather than burn a spell slot.
Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
There you go. Not quite at full, but it'll work.
DM Morvius |
The imp flies away and you all continue your trip. The ground becomes more and more decayed as you move and it seems like something must be corrupting the forest from the inside.
Let me know if anyone is scouting ahead. If so, the scout can give me a Perception check. If not, everyone can roll Perception.
1d20 ⇒ 14
1d20 ⇒ 18
1d20 ⇒ 13
1d20 ⇒ 6
Ihon Volarian |
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Perception (familiar): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 low-light, scent
Ihon's small companion pops its head out of his hood for a moment, chirps, then vanishes into the folds of the man's cloak again. He barely seems to notice as he stares out into the trees.
Sazu Magauge |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Vote for sticking together.
"If we follow the conventions of the old legends, I believe the corruption means we're heading in the right direction..."
Andre Karoxin |
Oh, I'd say stick together for sure.
Andre nods to Sazu. "Old legends are often true in one way or another. If I were a betting man, I'd say that we were getting close."
DM Morvius |
Ihon, you and your familiar notice a human being with a longsword and shield as well as a goat-headed, mangy looking demon stealthily moving toward you from the forest once they are 60 ft away. You have enough time to warn the group in order to prevent the rest of your companions from being surprised.
Everyone can roll initiative!
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Ihon Volarian |
Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Initiative (familiar): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Round 1: Initiative 27
Enemies, Ihon says as he touches Andre's shoulder and points.
Using Diviner’s Fortune on Andre.
Andre Karoxin |
How is your initiative always so high, Ihon?! :P
Andre nods. "I see them!"
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
He's just a hair too slow to act before the demon and its human do, though.
Sazu Magauge |
Sazu jumps in place slightly as they see the creature.
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Round 1
Sazu will immediately begin a bardic performance of inspire courage, as he saws his bow back and forth on his violin.
"To battle friends, though our enemy is strong let us prove we can best him."
Inspire Courage (Su): A 1st level bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard’s performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance.
DM Morvius |
Round 1
Subject to change if I need to due to Phaedra's actions.
Initiative 18
The goat-headed creature wields a halbred, but holds it down for the moment in favor of putting its head down and charging at Amideo with its substantial horns.
Gore: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6, 4) + 4 = 16
The human being simply snarls and runs quickly up to engage in melee with Phaedra.
Andre Karoxin |
"Amideo!!" Andre cries, as he sees the goat-headed creature gore his newest companion. Seizing his holy symbol, he bellows, "Face me, demon!" And suddenly grows to be twelve feet tall. The many-hundred-pounds cleric charges the demon, dropping his bow and swinging his walking stick with all his might!
Attack (Inspire, Rage, Charge): 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
Andre's current hit points are 24...though his AC is 12...
EDIT: Aw, man! SO close to a crit!
SECOND EDIT: I forgot that IC gives a +1 to damage as well! That's actually 12 damage. Edited to be correct.
Swift: Enlarge (domain power)
Full-Round: Charge
Sazu Magauge |
Round 2 (when applicable)
Sazu will maintain his song, but nudge his elbow a little forcefully, sending a grease spell where the demon stands.
Spell DC: 15 (10 + spell level + CHA)
Grease: A grease spell covers a solid surface with a layer of slippery grease. Any creature in the area when the spell is cast must make a successful Reflex save or fall. A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can’t move that round (and must then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details). Creatures that do not move on their turn do not need to make this check and are not considered flat-footed.
Amideo Caluzzo di Solva |
Amideo stabs at the demon with his lance, wincing at the deep wound caused by the demon. "Andre! Some healing at your convenience would be greatly appreciated!
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
DM Morvius |
The demon takes a solid blow from Andre, staggering a bit from the force of it. Amideo connects as well, able to strike the creature due to its off-balance position from charging. It does, however, appear to be more resistance to the damage it has taken than a human being would be.
Round 2
Grease Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Initiative 18
The demon turns to face the large cleric now standing in front of him, shuffling 5ft carefully to get out of the Grease. It attempts to strike Andre with its rather well-crafted halberd, following up with a minor goring attack with its horns.
Halberd: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Gore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Andre, please give me a DC 15 Fortitude save to avoid contracting Gray Pox from the halberd strike.
The human being engaged with Phaedra attempts to strike her with his sword.
Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Andre Karoxin |
Fortitude DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
"Coming, Amideo!" Andre cries, though he staggers as the creature slices him and then gores him. He mutters a quick prayer to preserve his new size. Stepping carefully around the demon, he tries to club it with his staff again as he approaches his ally. "Let's bring this thing down, then I can heal us without healing the fiend as well!"
Attack (Inspire, Rage): 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Man, I did everything wrong in that post. Wrong BAB, wrong damage die... *shakes head at self* Current HP: 10, AC: 12. Hope I get lucky in the next round...
Free: Five-foot step toward Amideo (getting adjacent if possible)
Standard: Attack!
Ihon Volarian |
Well, I do have a +11 to initiative. That helps. But, though I have yet to use it, I can also exchange my initiative with my familiar if I'd like.
Round 2: Initiative 27
Ihon frowns and points at the human attacking Phaedra.
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 4 = 19
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 4 = 16
Crit Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sazu Magauge |
Round 3 When applicable
Sazu will switch targets, casting a second grease spell on the weapon of the man attacking Phaedra.
Spell DC: 15
Grease: The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on an item. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature requires its bearer to make a Reflex saving throw to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item. A creature wearing greased armor or clothing gains a +10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape a grapple, and to their CMD to avoid being grappled.
DM Morvius |
Sorry for the delay. A convention left me with less time to post this weekend than I expected!
Phaedra is unable to connect, but Andre does strike the demon in front of him. It seems to be injured, though it is still clearly resistant to some of the damage from the blow. Ihon, however, is able to land a reasonably solid strike with his acid splash against the human who cringes in slight pain.
Grease Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Round 3
The demon once again attempts to strike the large Andre, seeing him as a bit more of a threat than Amideo at the moment. Meanwhile the human continues to try to slash at Phaedra.
Demon Halberd (Andre): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Demon Gore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Human Longsword (Phaedra): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Edit for the crit confirm attempt:
Halberd Confirmation: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Well, since the halberd crit was enough to down Andre, the Gore will strike at Amideo instead. The demon isn't interested in hitting someone that is unconscious!
Ihon Volarian |
Round 3: Initiative 27
Ihon looks impassive as he waves his hands and summons grease under the demon.
Casting Grease, DC 17
Andre Karoxin |
Andre lets out a choking sound as the demon plunges its halberd into his gut and viciously yanks it out. He collapses to the ground, unconscious, shrinking back to normal size as he does so.
At -9 hit points.
CON DC 10: 1d20 + 1 - 9 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 9 = 7
-10.
Amideo Caluzzo di Solva |
Amideo's face pales slightly at the sight of his injured friend. He turns to face the demon, anger washing over his face. "Damn you beast, whatever you may be, I challenge you to face me!"
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 3 = 11
I realized that I've forgotten to update my stats, which is why my attack is a bit higher. I'm at a con so I can't update them now but I should have them changed by tonight.
DM Morvius |
Grease Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
The demon is just quick enough to evade the new patch of Grease.
I don't mind having the then large Andre fall and shrink into a square non-adjacent to the demon in case someone wants to move in to heal him.
Phaedra is unable to connect with the man, but Amideo is luckier, able to finally cut down the horned demon.
Sazu Magauge |
Round 4
"Suberb! Non-Demon take bolts much easier!"
Sazu switches from his violin, to a diction performance, and pulls out his crossbow in one fluid motion.
setting down instrument as free action, drawing out crossbow as move.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Andre Karoxin |
Assuming I don't get any healing this round...
CON DC 10: 1d20 + 1 - 10 ⇒ (18) + 1 - 10 = 9 Wow, actually close!
Andre lies very still, and is growing frighteningly pale.
Amideo Caluzzo di Solva |
Amideo hops off his horse landing next to Andre, pressing his hands against the most grievous of his wounds to try and staunch the bleeding. "Come on friend, the fight's not over yet."
Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 19
