Here we go now. Please post your players questions and OOC character questions here.

I still need to sort through your characters and see those background stories.

Please don't post in the gameplay thread until I communicate with you. You may look at the description of my Alias.

Wondering what the plot will be to start

No worries I have been developing the plot extensively. Check out the campaign info on the new page for a glimpse.

Just noticed a comment you made earlier about 3000gp gear or by background.....elaborate please :)

Changling Rogue 3 HP: 24/24 | AC:17 - 14 - 14 | F:+3 R:+6 W:0 ( +2 vs sleep/charm) | Init:+7 | Perception +5 (+6 traps)

Also, do I keep the Mark of Death I already have ?

Keep the information on the Mark but you won't be starting off with it at the beginning. Also work on developing your background some and come up with the new position you just got. ;)

It might just be easier to have the cap at 3,000 gp. The background option basically would work if you can come up with reasons for having wealth from your previous adventures.

can someone PM me when the campaign thread is completed? i keep forgetting to check this since i don't have it dotted, then i remember and hope im not two days late to the start of it, haha

M Humanborn

strong vote for DreamingWarforged, i play with that person in some games and have played with them in others.

Will do Rhobannnon, actually I should create it and have the group just go through their day as if nothing wrong was going to happen! We can introduce others once they are selected.

Cil has the other players contacted you at all? Also everyone think more on your background make sure it is fitting in. ;)

Tanira you around?

Should i post in gameplay (answering your last few questions) even though i, to my knowledge, am not making preparations for Cil's party?

or are we writing in new characters as having some relationship with the old ones?

either way is fine for me. My character is not particularly antisocial (though also not a party face).

Rhobannon, if he does not party would not need to worry about going to the party.

Everyone may post in gameplay if you know exactly how to answer it, otherwise ask questions and develop.

Everyone should be connected to someone. Like when Rho lost his arm Saronis was the captain in charge of your unit and he feels guilty even though it was not his fault, you know leadership and such. So with that being a connection being between the two of you nothing else needs to be developed. If you don't like this we can develop something different.

Hello All,

Thanks for having me DM Wolf. I'll elaborate on my connection with Cil shortly.

Ok, how about the following:

Spoiler:

During the Sharn Pogrom, Falko was dispatched as a sort of Deneith peacekeeper, which meant he stood witness to impossible horrors, unable to act until attacked. He could not stand it, and when a group of changelings came running down the street towards him, he directed them to a side alley where he had noticed a small run down hotel earlier.

He paid the owner handsomely for his silence, but it was not enough, and he soon found himself first blocking, then fighting, then killing to save the changelings.

He was severely reprimanded and fined after. But every year, on this date, flowers were anonymously sent to his house.

Hello! Thanks for having me. I look forward to playing with you guys.

I was planning on going for the chance meet-up. Shalyna was going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and that's how she meets Cil and the others for the first time.

If that won't work, I'll have to work with Cil's player on how Shalyna knows her, and I'll have to modify Shalyna's background somewhat, since I was imagining that she was just arriving in Sharn the night of the party.

Also, I hate to ask, but where can I find information about what Cil's party is about?

M Humanborn

I thought Falko looked familiar. I played Ebran in Elton's Eberron game.

And Yeah, Saronis and Rhobannon could be connected like that. probably makes the most sense, if Saronis fought for Cyre. Where was he on the Mourning?

Yeah, I didn't get much chance to develop the character before the game went south...

M Humanborn

yeah, i had high hopes, i really liked Ebran

Shalyna, you can go for that if you want. Remember there is 4 PCs that you can connect to, Tanira, Rho, Saronis or Cil. Yes we have not heard from Tanira for several days now but I am sure she will show up soon.

Saronis could easily could have been fighting for Cyre, he has been a mercenary for some years and Cyre was likely his last stent. It makes even more sense that Cyre would be dead being that is his last house of service. Actually he would have been working for the House of Cannith but basically the same thing.

With that connection Rho and Saronis were likely together during the Mourning.

sounds good.

decided to have Rhobannon work for Deneith. He isnt a pure loyalist by any means, but Cannith wouldn't likely have him, and Deneith is getting more liberal with their hires thanks to Tharashk trying to corner the monstrous mercenary market. Cyran veterans are often a problem in Cannith, the ones liked by the house few and far between. Rhobannon would like the stability of Deneith, easy to start making a new life out of there. He isn't marked, and he isn't Karrn, so he wouldn't be in any sort of leadership position higher than perhaps a shift lead at the forge, where Deneith members can get equipment taken care of cheaper so Deneith can keep coin inside the house and avoid giving business to Cannith by making their own magic weapons as much as possible.

Excellent, Rho, do you mind me calling you Rho? Cil has already gotten to calling me Sar... 'How it grates on my nerves...'

Anyways, Deneith sounds reasonable. Only recently did you get back to Sharn. If you succeed on a Diplomacy DC 15 or K Local DC 20 you can have had earned that shift lead position at the forge. Otherwise you are working much like Saronis, able to work at your leisure and mostly by yourself. Contract is you make one item of a value for the house then one of the same value or less for yourself. Likely the two of you share one room with a third individual.

I still have not seen any updates on Cil's background. So it is kinda hard to tell you about her party. It would not necessary be her party as she uses allies here and there through her past and previous missions.

Shalyna, I may not like how you are choosing to bring in your character but I guess I am fine with it. Just like Falko though he did try a bit more and made it his own unique way. I wanted each of you to have like previous adventuring together or something like that. Not necessarily coming to the party but someone that each of them can rely on from past experiences.

Rhobannon, welcome to management! You make a couple silver a day or 5 gold at the end of a week.

Sorry for the delay guys, some RL got in the way of my finishing my backstory.

I was going to pair up with Shalyna, with a chance encounter in a country side inn. Just two girls sharing their woes over a cheap wine, Cil extending an invitation for Shalyna to look her up in Sharn...upto to you if you want to retcon a bit.

Falko I've got covered, his idea was one I was also thinking of.
Saronis is easy :)
Rhobannon, if you've been in Sharn long enough, Saronis probably know you as you're in similar lines of work, either way Cil could have had Rhobannon craft her some custom tools for a job...

Wolf, I PM'd you about the postition/party.

@Cil: Works for me. I wouldn't even have to retcon anything from my first post. Do you have anything in particular that you would have shared with Shalyna?

So, with 5 gold at the end of the week, i figure Rhobannon will subscribe to the following Food & Lodging (aka Monthly Cost of Living)

Average (10 gp/month: The PC lives in his own apartment, small house, or similar location—this is the lifestyle of most trained or skilled experts or warriors. He can secure any nonmagical item worth 1 gp or less from his home in 1d10 minutes, and need not track purchases of common meals or taxes that cost 1 gp or less.

With his stated wage of 5gp/week (20gp/month) he could afford rent with a little bit to spare for miscellaneous expenditures like wine.

If Saronis doesn't have a problem with Rhobannon working with House Deneith, then he wouldn't have a problem if Saronis wanted to room with him and split the rent. More money for wine!

P.S. - you wouldn't happen to want to use regional bonuses, would you? :D

Rhobannon wrote:

Sounds good.

Looks good Cil and you don't need to connect yourself to Rhobannon, Saronis has the connection there. Also he might have done as you stated.

Shalyna, that works. I will adjust the inn keep's statement.

I like regional bonuses. So if you can tie yourself to one of the regions that is awesome. Make sure to have at least five sentences explaining where you were originally from and your connections there. This will give you a bonus on a skill, a bonus background feat, and some extra equipment. I may have a few adjustments to the selections but since this is extra understand that it will likely be modified somehow.

I would be interested in a regional bonus. Falko spent most of his youth and recent career in Sharn. Would that work?

Ok profile all updated , including background. I'll put it here for all to see.

Background:

Growing up amongst the filth and squalor in the underpits of Shard, Cil always looked up to the floating city and dreamed of one day walking its graceful bridges But that was not to be, at least for some time.

Survival was paramount for her and her family. Though changelings, they were not of the families that made up the majority of the criminal elite within Shard.

Utilizing their shapeshifting ways they were able to scratch out a life in the darkness.

Persecution and Prejudice was common, insults mainly, the occasional beating.

One especially hot summer, a religion zealot began to foment a pogrom agains shapeshifters within the slum.

Cil's family made preparations to leave but were too late, they were caught in a storm of hatred and intolerance. Caught out in the confusing slums below Shard, Cil and her parents found themselves pursued by a small
mob, hounding them down alleys. All was lost until a figure stepped out of a nearby alley, directing them towards a nearby hostel. Guarding their retreat, the man said enigmatically "I shouldn't be doing this, but I've stood by too much...". Tossing the hopsteller a small bag of coins, he directed the man "Keep them here until the riots die down"
The man the left to continue to battle the insanity of the mob, killing a number that attempted to enter the hostel. Young Cil, watched from a grimy window, noting the Denerith emblemm rmrmering every detail of the kind man,

Unfortunately, the hosteler was not a man of virtue, seeing to take advantage of the young changling girl, causing an altercation with her father, resuting in his death.
Fleeing, Cil and her mother were soon found by the mob once more, her mother grabbed and swallowed by the sea of people. Cil was quiucker, and escaped...

Somehow, she evaded all of the hunters, their fierce scowls and cries of rage searching for her here and there. But Cil was more clever than they and they eventually tired of the hunt and moved on to find easier prey.

Cil allowed herself a moment to cry over her loss, but then steeled herself for what lay ahead.

Emboldened by necessity, Cil made her way into the lower areas of Shard, using her shapeshifting and her clever nature to remain undetected.

Cil felt compelled to seek out the man who had saved her live .

A task she accomplished easily, she began to have flowers sent on that day, occasionaly she'd perch in a tree outside his house and observe him with his familiy, her heart aching for that which was lost.

For many years she operated under the very nose of the criminal cartels of Shard, until the day the finally caught on to her presence.

Hauled before her area's prefect, Cil was sentenced to exile for operating outside the guild's notice.

She was offered a deal however. She obviously had skill, but examples had to be made; she would be exiled, but if she brought back some particular information, she would be offered membership.

Her childhood dream within her grasp, Cil agreed and was off the next day to the newly created Mourneland.

Travelling with 'official' papers, Cil changed her appearance several times on her journey to the Mournlands, her confidence growing in the unfamilliar cities and towns as she passed by unnoticed.

However, it was the end of her journey that revealed her true anxiety...the final journey out into the wilderness to find the information she sought.

A tower, unexpectedly whole, lay just inside the misty border. It was her destination...

Cil's luck evaporated almost the moment she crossed into the Mournland. Confident in her ability to move undetected, she was taken by surprise by a hideous creature, of rock and dirt....and flesh! It had herded her into
a small gulley, its sides made of a crumbly rock that gave no chance to climb out. Rapier at ready she tried to discern a weak point, aiming to at least hurt the creature before her untimely death , when a number of arrows thudded into
the beast, giving it pause. A rope dropped own the side of the gulley, and Cil wasted no time in clambering up, escaping the Mournland mutant.

At the top of the rope was wild looking elf, "Glad I came along when I did! I'm Saronis...". "Thanks...Cil." Cil said gratefully, keeping for now her changling nature hidden, showing her ususal half-elf personae.

After a few more moments of introduction, Saronis offered to accompany Cil further into the Mournland, and Cil gratefully accepted, realizing she'd underestimated the dangers within.

The pair emerged a short time later, only a few days, but a friendship had been forged. The small book she'd been tasked to find safely tucked in her tunic, the pair parted, agreeing to meet back in Shard two months hence.

Returning truimphant, Cil was accepted into the guild, slowly over the next few years a solid reputation among the criminal element in Sharn, but also branching out as a 'finder' of lost items for those not connected
to the criminal underbelly.

One of the things she did upon returning, was to check in on her Denerith benefactor, only to witness his sad departure from his former home. Crouched high in the eaves of a nearby tenement, she watched the man
stomp away from his home, shoulders slowly drooping, the stomp slowing to a sad, sad walk.

Saronis, as she came to expect, was a bit late, finally arriving in Sharn a couple of years later, his own adventures taking him all over Khorvaire.

So it came to pass, a job took her out of the city, deeper into Breland. A simple delivery. On the return leg, Cil was taking shelter from the inclement weather, in a ramshackle but respectable inn. Sharing the empty taproom with
her was a girl, obviously running away from something. A bit lonely herself, Cil engaged the shy girl in conversation and after a glass of wine, the two were talking like old friends. After some time, the rain had stopped,
Cil had to return to the road to Sharn. "If you're ever in Sharn, look me up at the Dusty Tankard." she said, then disappeared into the misty night.

----

Many months on, Cil is sitting in her room, contemplating an offer she had just recieved. On of her more eccentric clients wanted her to put a team together, the purpose...a mystery. However, each of his previous
jobs had paid out and had at least been interesting. Leaning back in her chair, she pondered who to engage in this most interesting of adventures....

Rhobannon fought for the Cyran military, so i'll draft that up later. The idea is that he had also worked for Cannith, but saw it as a dead end because he wasn't marked.

I fell asleep little I can change now, but it looks like we have a good setup going.

So Falko and Cil would be from Breland.
Rhobannon that makes sense but were you born in Cannith?

I imagine born in Cyre, grew up working in the smithies of Eston, studying in Eston, employed by Cannith as they owned most everything, but he isnt a Cannith by blood or mark. Simply was an employee as Cannith owned most employment opportunities in the nation. He joined the Cyran military out of a sense of national pride, as well as wanting to try something outside the forge. Warforged had started taking over a lot of jobs in the weapons- and armor-smithing process anyway, but they were not yet trusted to be leaders on the battlefield. This gave humans more chance for military advancement, with grunt work taken over by 'forged. Rhobannon quickly rose to be a platoon sergeant, with Saronis likely a platoon commander.

Shalyna's lived a pretty sheltered life. She knows jack about he world at large, other than not everyone can be trusted, and being a tiefling is not a good thing.

Oh, you guys have already started. Looks like I had a lot of catching up to do... not to worry, I am just trying to get things sorted now.

Tanira's background makes it somewhat difficult to connect to her if you're not from the Eldeen Reaches and have not recently been in Stormhome. She has some connections to the House of Lyrandar, though.

Should it be a problem that she is a wielder of the (least) Mark of Storm I would need to rewrite the story. As for the equipment... I think I still have the original equipment selection somewhere and will adjust accordingly.

Having got an impression of the adventure and seeing that it will start in Sharn I would like to request switching the character after all (sorry for the confusion after my late entry).

While all my other characters are more or less unique (there may be certain similarities in their personalities, but they have different stories), I have a variation of the basic idea that also spawned Tanira: Sharea.

  • Just as Tanira, Sharea carries the least Mark of Storm but has not been a member of house Lyrandar until recently. (And consequently they are both half-elves.)
  • She is a wielder of somewhat wild magic, but she's a sorceress, not a witch.
  • Just as Tanira she has grown up with a single parent, but that was her mother, not her father.
  • She has grown up in the forest as well, however, her mother was a huntress who lived in a forest near a rural environment in Aundair, not in in the depth of the Eldeen reaches and was not completely seperated from civilization as a child.
  • Unlike Tanira, Sharea knows where her connection to house Lyrandar comes from. She is a bastard of a youvenile adventure of her father.
  • She has a step mother and a half-sister and brother she does not get along with, but she has a good relation to her eldest half sister and to her father.
  • Her familiar is a hawk, not a fox. It was given to her by her father.
  • Just like Tanira she is barely accepted in house Lyrandar. She is permitted to call herself d'Lyrandar, but she is not welcome in Stormhome and expected to prove herself without causing trouble and dishonouring the name. She achieved that by saving her half-sister's live (even though it had been her that brought her into trouble in the first place).
  • She is a blonde, not a brunette. I used that as reference image: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Tattooed-Elf-Girl-coloured-356018930
  • I imagine her a bit more mature than Tanira. Even though she is still young.
  • She is true good, not chaotic good.

Unfortunately I wrote the character story (which is a good bit longer than Tanira's) in German, so I have some work in front of me. However, she would fit way better into an environment such as Sharn.

A detail that won't work well in English is her "code name" she uses the Sharn underground: White Queen, as the figure in chess. To call onceself "queen" would be a bit presumptious, though. So her code name would be just "QD1" (D1 is the starting position of the white queen in chess).

Sharea was originally created by D&D 3 rules, so she does not yet have a sorcerer bloodline... I gotta choose one that works with the mark of storm...

Oooof. I clicked together a character in my generator as fast as I could. An English version of the background is still pending, though I think I will write a condensed version at first in order to get started. To connect with the others... we shall see.

No worries Tanira, we are after all taking small steps getting the game going.

To answer some of you questions:
She can be a wielder of the (least) Mark of Storm.

As for the equipment... original equipment selection should work.

Background changes and character swap looks good. Let me know when it is finished.

You could have a connection to Saronis easily he could be a friend, mentor, or such to your father. Saronis could be related to Sharea somehow, he could be her uncle or some other familial tie. Lots of options, the only question is how you want to incorporate him or others. If there is a familial tie, it would make even more sense why a dragonmark appeared on you Sharea.

Perhaps we should discuss how often we should expect players to post? I am open to anything but we need a concensus. Vote for 1/day, 1/ two days, 2/day, or something like that. I know that some of you are having more busy schedules so let us know what you think will be more viable for you.

I say 1/day

that said, sometimes i go over a day without posting, but that is in cases where it is in combat and not my turn or it is a case where dialogue is going on and my character would not say anything.

that said, RARE are the days where i do not check the boards at least twice.
