Okay, here's the deal: I would run this with PFS standard characters in Campaign mode, with the idea that you would each gain PFS credit and a PFS sheet once each chapter is completed. I would need 5-6 committed PFS PbP players who are COMMITTED to the following:

1. Posting at least once per day on weekdays and usually at least once over weekends and holidays.
2. Committed to sticking with the game for the year+ it will take to finish the AP.
3. Being a good player and playing well with others, which means no rules tirades, no telling other players what to do and no "But that's what my character would do!" tantrums when I smack you for stabbing the paladin.
4. Having fun. Really this should cover all the rest, but life is what it is.

My GMing philosophy, informed by 20 years of gaming:

1. I am not your enemy. My job is to play your enemies and make for a challenging experience. You're the hero, but a hero needs adversity to shine. I'm the adversity.
2. I am not trying to kill your character. Poor choices, bad rolls and bad luck will sometimes try to kill you; I will not. If you die, it's because I offered you every chance to get away and you didn't take it. Or because it fulfills your character's purpose and story arc to die in a noble fashion.
3. Have fun. Seriously. This game is supposed to be fun for both me and you. If one of isn't having fun, send me a PM and we'll talk about it. This may mean I take vacation from the game during busy work times or GenCon. I will let you know in advance as much as I can, and I appreciate you doing the same. We can accommodate life events, busy times, sickness, real life, etc, but communication is key. let me know as soon as you can.
4. To be determined. I'm still refining my GMing style and I hope to continue for as long as I run games. If you think I'm not doing something right or there is a way I can improve, drop me a PM and let me know. I may agree, I may disagree, but I will listen.

With that being said, I need 5-6 stalwart souls who have a connection to the late, lamented Professor Lorrimor. Please download the free Carrion Crown Player's guide and be aware that this is a horror AP and will involve gross stuff and mild dementedness. Do not apply internally.

Who's up?

I'd be interested. How much PFS credit would we get since we are doing the whole thing?

Greetings James and thank you for entertaining the thought of running an AP for the boards! I would welcome such a horror adventure. I am currently with a group doing warhammer 40k pnp and it is incredibly fun with the mature themes and horror. Believe me we have some horror going on at our table (Haarlock Heresy if you are familiar with it). I am a regular poster (multiple times a day if I'm bored and there is enough to do) and love making longer posts for dialogue if there is space and time to do it.

So I would very much like to join a horror adventure myself. I would love to think of a character that fits right in the game. Do you have any restrictions on race/class/archetypes that we should be aware of like the ACP classes and non core races? I rarely touch anything non-core unless it fits really well. Like the dhampir and werekin seem to fit this campaign.

I have always wanted to try a haunted oracle and it seems that this would be just the adventure for it. On the other hand, I have yet to play an arcane caster in an adventure and that also seems quite fun.

Cheers

I would really love to get in on this. I have played through the first and a good portion of the second books in another PbP that unfortunately died a few months ago. Any chance there's a spot for someone who's played a bit of the AP already?

There are six chronicle sheets, one for each chapter. Each one is a 3XP, 4 Prestige sheet. They are:
1. Haunting of Harrowstone levels tiers 2-4
2. Trail of the Beast tiers 6-8
3. Broken Moon tiers 7-9
4. Wake of the Watcher tiers 9-11
5. Ashes at Dawn tiers 11-13
6. Shadows of Gallowspire tiers 13-15.

What that means is that a PFS character apply the credit when they reach the legal tier range; so you can apply Haunting to a character of level 2, 3 or 4. So 1 2nd level PFS character applies Haunting at levels 2-4, which will grant you an immediate level, making them level 3. Then when they reach level 6, they can apply Trail of the Beast, making them level 7. Broken Moon can be applied immediately making them level 8. Then after they've gotten to level 9, they can apply Wake, making them level 10. And et cetera.

As long as you keep your player knowledge and character knowledge separate, I'm cool if you've played it before.

Non-standard races are fine, just run them past me first. The Dhampir seems to fit very well. Playtest classes are fine, with the caveat that when the ACP comes out you'll need to update them to current rules. Other than that I think we can accommodate just about anything.

Nevermind, you beat me to the punch. Now to think up what I might like to play for such a campaign.

Sounds fun. Fairly new to pbp, but familiar with all sorts of games and pfs. Have played pretty much every type of character at some point so I can fill in any gaps in classes that people choose.

Thanks

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

Okay, Interest check List:
1. DoubleGold
2. Jolly Roger
3. psychicmachinery
4. Joshua Hirtz
5. Doomguide.
6. Helikon

Will update as people post character ideas. At this point I only need a RACE/CLASS with a sentence of backstory/concept. I'll ask for more once I choose players. And I will be taking alternates just in case.

EDIT: Helikon, please read above. New classes are available with the caveat that they will need to be updated when the ACG comes out.

However, NO THIRD PARTY STUFF. Period. As you might be able to guess, I have had issues with 3rd party stuff in the past.

Quite interested too.
I would like to know if you would accept the new classes too.
Also I am dedicated gamer willing to post quite a few times a day.

By reading the introduction it seems to start of just like an adventure of Call of Cthulhu I once played and very much enjoyed.

Human Magus with the Hexcrafter archtype.

Family was killed by a Demon so he was adopted by Leprechauns. He did kill the Demon years later but with lots of help and he only delivered the final blow. The Demon had armies of undead, so this is a thing of vengance for him.

He will have some buffs, but mainly many arcane spells. He will try to get in close with his spell strike when level 2 when necessary, but he is not your primary melee character, he is mostly ranged, but melee if needed. And of course he will have at least 3 knowledge skills to help identify things, especially religion considering he is up against the undead, or at least since this is horror theme, I would suspect undead. He will also be an init type of character.

He will also have a bit of stealth to him, as he would be sneaky like a leprechaun or as tricky as one. You can bet he would know the sylvan language.

Or I will make hims a Human Gunslinger with the pistolero archetype. Same backstory. He will have a pistol as his weapon of choice and a melee weapon. Again, not your primary melee person, but can go melee if needed. Again 3 knowledge skills or more to help identify things. Init type of character, so yes again, quickdraw, improved init, etc.

I haven't decided which one yet, but those are my two concepts, haven't decided which of the two classes I want him to be yet.

A few character ideas in my brain:

A Human(Tian) Samurai that was stranded on this continent when the ship he and his lord were traveling on, sank in transit to Absalom. Lost and alone he is attracted by the rigid hierarchy of Cheliax and the Hell Knights. Not a "I want to play evil" character. Like the idea of the challenge of viewing the western areas through a more eastern mindset. Duel wielding or archer type most likely.

A traditional human Szarni. A little skeezy, good with a knife. Rogue Knife Master. Wish pfs allowed the Vivisectionist alchemist for this.

A primitive brute haunted by the spirits of his ancestors, manifesting as barbarian or Skald focusing on the Spirit rage powers. Any potential barbarian race would work. Maybe an Annis Hag Changeling or a tiefling subtype not fully aware of its origins.

As I said, I can pretty easily come up with something for most any role we need filled given a little time.

Oh yes found it. Excellent. I do not mind to change it when the book comes out. Also a class is just a skin for a great character, it is the story behind it that makes it great.
My Idea is a gentleman and fellow scholar, (investigator) human or aasimar.
After a chance encounter he kept in contact, often asking for his advice in his investigations, valuing the professors keen intellect and expertise.

Fairly interested, I'll have something up as soon as I can.

I'd be interested in this AP. I'm currently in another AP that is being run by Endless Forms, we just started the third book of Shattered Star. Saying that, I'm familiar with just how long these things can run.

As far as a character idea... hmm. I could play a Taldan Fighter with the Archer archetype. I have one already in my PFS stable but I do enjoy playing him as a character. I could do that with a few tweaks to fit the AP and just apply the chronicles to him as we go (if he lives, of course).

Half-elf guide ranger who grew up near Jol, west of the Shudderwood. Father was a wandering elf minstrel who took off. Mother turned to less than savory activities to put food on the table and died a pauper. Young Karl managed to survive in the wild, hunting and trapping. Probably take the chance savior trait for connection to Prof Lorrimor. Standard switch-hitter build.

Grand Lodge

I started this adventure path with Calon (Elven Wizard/Transmuter), but the GM had to stop quite early in the adventure (we did not even reach level 2). I would love to play the entire path. Full background on the link, but basically he is a former student of Professor Lorrimer on the run from the (Human) Law.

Thanks for offering to run this!

Just to reiterate: the character you play in the AP DOES NOT have to be the same character you apply PFS credit to. So if you want to play a Dhampir Witch and apply the credit to a half-orc Barbarian, you can.

We've got a lot of interest so far, so let's close this recruitment up Sunday Noon, Central Time US. Please try to have your one sentence summary in by then.

Yep, I'm aware that we would be in "campaign mode". Of course if we really need a healer I could be convinced to try a cleric or oracle and give it a shot. I'm easy that way.

I am espicially interested in the PFS credit.

Pathfinder Pathfinder Accessories, PF Special Edition Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I'm considering a Human or Aasimar Paladin who was raised in the ways of undead slaying by his grandfather.

I have thought of a character.

If you allow this I would like to play a female dhampir cleric of Calistria. She will go for the holy vindicator prestige class later on and I was hoping that she would be allowed to use the PRC's third level ability for empowering her inflict wounds spells if cast on herself. I think the overall combination works quite well and would fit this AP splendidly.

She will focus on channeling negative or positive with the versatile channeling feat and selective channeling to not hurt her friends, unless they want her to ;), and hurt her enemies, or heal her friends. She will be a complicated character in the group because she has many facets party members can explore. In the beginning she will use her sexuality as a defensive mechanism in a flirty way. I must accentuate that this will not be in an annoying, stereotyped or offensive way. No "whoring around" or something like that. Later on she might really bond with the party and show a softer side. She is still as fickle as her goddess and if someone crosses her they will feel her wrath.

Story background:
Petros was a kind father-figure to her when she was shunned by most people in Ustalav due to her heritage. Though her race and the populace's aversion of it still influenced her personality (hence Calistria for overcompensation) it could have been much worse. Petros taught her morals and helped her explore her clerical powers so that she could do good and not just hurt those she wanted (hence the versatile channeling).

If you do not like the theme for some reason let me know, I will think of something else.

Cheers

How does that work though, would your other character get the loot that this one finds?

It would work just like any other chronicle sheet; You are given a set amount of gold and can buy anything listed on the sheet for your character when it is applied, or at any future time.

I am interested in playing an aasimar cleric of Iomadae, choosing the Glory and Sun domains.

Character idea is as a channeling undead killer, who saved the Professor long ago. Grew up in Absalom but is in Usatlav to help keep an eye on the Whispering Tyrant.

If it's allowed, I'm considering middle aged so, 150+ years old, with the Immortal Spark alternate racial trait

Sovereign Court

I am very interested in a horror story. My first choice would be to enter a young half orc Rogue from the North.

I think I will play seek to play a Dhampir Corpse Hunter Ranger, someone who feels guilty under his own heritage, and thus seeks to hunt down and eliminate undead creatures that seek to do others harm. Is in Usatlav largely to continue his work.

A side note is that Horef looks and acts in public of human heritage rather than orc. He speaks several languages and works with merchants in the appraisal of goods and historic relevance of items.

Sorcerer with the Draconic bloodline.

When he was young and struggled with the power in his blood it was the professor who helped teach him control. Throughout the years he has kept in regular correspondence with Professor Lorrimor and has attended his lectures whenever it was possible for him to do so.

There was a lull in the letters recieved and when it was revealed that Professor Lorrimor had passed he was distraught and immediately rushed to Ustalav to pay his respects to his friend and mentor.

Let me know if you want the full number crunch as well.

Human Fighter (weapon/shield)

He signed on as a hired tough a few years ago on one of Professor Lorrimar's expeditions, and was skilled enough at deterring would-be violence that he frequently got called back in to guard another of the Professor's interests.

He recently learned of Professor Lorrimor's demise and has come to Ravengro to pay his respects, and to make inquiries into the cause of his death.

How about a changeling witch? Either a healer or debuffer depending on party composition.

She was about to be murdered by an ignorant mob before the Professor swooped in and rescued her. Since then she's mostly kept to herself for the sake of safety, only lured out now thanks to the Professor's death. She's very skittish around people, but willing to open herself up to trustworthy people and defend the downtrodden and defenseless.

Applying with this char. Curious how it will work

I'm going to submit a Half-Orc Druid with the Mooncaller archetype. His family was killed by werewolves, so he ran into the woods and lived there, eventually studying them on his own. The Professor helped him get back into civilization and start helping people.

Very interested in this.

Thinking of either:

A) a halfling cavalier, riding dog mount focused on archery
B) halfling alchemist

I've been hoping to play this AP for ages.

I'm thinking of a hard drinking, chain smoking, undead hating, human sacred servant paladin of ragathiel. His family where eaten alive by ghouls, and he was forced to watch helpless by a vampire who thought it was funny.

Disclaimer: I don't know anything about PFS and I'm in the GMT timezone.

A clever street urchin girl that helped the Professor do odd jobs in Caliphas, the capital of Ustalav; think Baker Street Irregulars from Sherlock Holmes. Human rogue, perhaps with some adjustments to account for the fact that she's still a child?

I have such a cool idea for a character, but I need to know: does it have to be a PFS character? I'm not really into official play, and have no knowledge of tiers or any other PFS stuff. Once I know whether or not knowledge of PFS is required, I will decide whether to post one of my character concepts or not.

I just wanted to throw in that instead of a street urchin as a human rogue, another fun alternative would be a Street Performer bard. In fact, I've been wanting to play one of those for a while.

A catfolk slayer who was orphaned by brigands and tried to chase them, he was found half-dead by the professor.

Hello James,

I am very interested in joining your Carrion Crown campaign. It's one of the APs I haven't read because I really wanted to play it one day. I love Ustalav and the horror type of campaign, as I'm a big fan of Call of Cthulhu and loved the Golarion/Mythos mix when I GMed the Carrion Hill module two years ago.

Moreover, I'm a very active player on these boards, where I mainly play and GM PFS scenarii. I usually post once or twice a day, and check the boards more often than that. I enjoy PbP for many reasons, mainly because it allows to take time (as a PFS player chances are that you'll know what I mean), and to play a good deal, which proves increasingly more difficult since real life takes its toll on my RL tabletop gaming time.

As far as PFS is concerned, I'm very active too, with many active characters (you can check my aliases), so the credit will definitely be a big plus! That being said, I'd play it most of all for fun.

Concerning my character, I keep an open mind and many possibilities would catch my interest. Here are the two main ones:

An Ustalavic (Varisian ethnicity) Alchemist with the Chirurgeon (UM) archetype who studied under Professor Lorrimor's tutelage.

A Half-Orc Redeemer Paladin (ARG) who was gnawed at by his own doubts, then met Professor Lorrimor, who managed to guide him, motivate him into becoming a merciful paladin in quest of redeeming some of Ustalav's misunderstood so-called monsters.

Let me know what you think about these! I'll be happy to work on these concepts with you to refine them to suit your plans for this campaign.

Shadow Lodge

Hi, I am interested in playing this adventure. Does my character have to be PFS legal? I have a half orc scarred witch doctor that I would like to play in this AP.

Character one sentence summary:
Ousk was a half orc raised in the Hold of Belkzen, son of a human slave girl he wanted more for his future than what his father's people offered.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

Recruiting is now closed. I will make a decision and post sometime later.

Shadow Lodge

This is the character I was talking about.

OUSK

I also forgot to mention that they were only brigands in überschatten's point of view. What he didn't know was that they were cultists who had killed his parents.

I'd just like to add a little bit about myself -

I do the majority of my Pathfinder games through PBP and have been for well over a year now, being a recent father and lacking a consistent group near where I live it's easier to get them done that way. The majority of these games have been PFS senarios.

I've participated in one adventure path - Way of the Wicked, but that was canceled by the GM since he was involved in multiple campaigns and felt like it was more then he can chew.

Being able to do an AP, and especially one with PFS credit is of great interest to me.

Finally I'd like to say good luck to everyone who applied.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

Apologies. I was restrained at home by a seven year old all day. I'll post results tomorrow.

As a father myself (4-16 years old), I understand. Good luck all!

I'll decide between the Magus or the Gunslinger if picked, but my concepts are still the same.

Refined my concept.

A halfling alchemist, saved the professor from a couple zombies while he was studying the abnormal paranormal in the nearby woods. I was there to gather various herbs for tinctures and tonics.

S 10-2=8
D 14+2=16
C 12
I 16
W 13
Ch 10+2=12

Feats: P.B. Shot

Skills: various knowledge skills, spellcraft, other alchemist shenanigans. :)

Hope I am not too late :)
