Nate Dragonail |
Thanks been fighting a bad cold so I forgot to check up on the games I can't see on my campaign tab in my profile.
Mr Kincaid |
Offer to do the washing? The only hook we have so far is bounty hunting missions. Considering Kincaid is a paladin we'd have to be choosy and know a lot more than we currently do about the local legal system.
Mr Kincaid |
Yes that's a possibility too. So do we have a vague plan of action here? (Somehow get funds for a map, preferably several)
All these exotic languages are super flavorful but they are making it hard for us to contribute in game. At least we can discuss things here ;)
mdt |
I did offer to let a PC just be considered to translate, but nobody took me up on it.
But yes, it appears that working or selling something to get gold or barter is your main options.
Rokas Nepavyk |
I did ask the guy if he spoke the common tongue, didn't get an answer so far. But yes, Rokas will translate for those that can't understand or if you want to say something.
Also, I'm willing to sell my acid flasks so that we can get some gold. If we need more, I have a masterwork morningstar that we can sell. I'm also thinking of offering our services. Either me as an alchemist or the group as explorer for the map maker. Let me know what you think before I offer.
Terexaltherin |
We shouldn't really sell our services--we've been out for a while, we should really be getting back to Kotelia to report sometime. Some alchemical goods or heirlooms people aren't going to use would do.
Mr Kincaid |
Well there is the scroll case so I'm not too concerned about reporting in although we probably should at some stage. As for volunteering our services, I somewhat agree although it is traditional. I wouldn't be surprised if bounty hunting missions here were out of our depth however.
Terexaltherin |
Besides, I still suspect the "Death City" is Kotelia... meaning the bounty is on *us*.
Rokas Nepavyk |
Rokas can translate in both direction. So if there is something you want to say to the NPC you can assume that he translates for you.
mdt |
Note that not everything on the map in the link is actually on the modern map, but it's close. Big Rock Wall is not on there, nor is anything in Ulisev or Savatha, but I don't have time to go make another partial map, so just keep it player knowledge for that.
Terexaltherin |
Lovely. I think that makes our reputation clear. Now the question is if we can do anything about it without getting killed by a mob.
Mr Kincaid |
The interesting question is where does that reputation come from? Does the city deserve it or has somebody been busy spreading lies?
Terexaltherin |
Yes, but is that a business strategy, or something more sinister...? I suppose we'll have to find out. :)
The fact that there are rumors of assassin squads being sent out just about at the same time as Kotelia sent scouts out to actually do their jobs suggests something deeper is going on, at least to my suspicious mind.
mdt |
OOC : The other group ran into some Hobgoblins who were being attacked by deranged blink dogs. And they had a blink dog in their party. Then they identified themselves as Kotelian scouts.
The hobgoblins trade with a kobold town, and put out the word the deranged blink dogs were the work of Kotelian assassins and sabatuers. The hobgoblins put out a bounty on them. Especially after they got word from an Ogre family that the Kotellian assassins tried to kidnap their kids.
The kobolds weren't sure they believed it until an assassination group with a blink dog tried to ambush their guard unit. Now the kobolds have put out a bounty as well.
There is a bounty on a Kotellian blink dog assassin that is up to 5000 gold, dead, 2000 gold alive.
Cygnus, Blinkdog Troubador |
Cygnus learned Play Dead. Much gold was had.
Mr Kincaid |
Well that's a turn up for the books, I didn't keep up with the other table. Mind you I got the impression rumors had been spread for quite some time.
Rokas Nepavyk |
Ah! So all our troubles come from the actions of the other table!!
*Rolls up a news paper*
Bad table A, Bad!
;)
Hopefully, our actions at the Gnoll's tower will start tipping the scale the other way. Plus we haven't killed anyone so far!
Terexaltherin |
Well, we killed some wild dogs, but I don't think anyone minds us doing that. :D
I'm going to ramble about Terex a bit here, feel free to ignore it. I'm mostly doing it so that:
1)The GM can see what I'm thinking of for Terex in case he wants to fashion some hooks for him.
2)The rest of you can see the kinds of things Terex does in his down-time in case it ever matters. (Also I love down-time RP so if you ever want to do some just PM me and we can start a side thread or a Google doc or something for it)
3)Because I don't know everything that's available in Pathfinder any more so one of you might know of something that would suit my purposes with Terex better than what I've thought of.
So, my original thought with Terex is that he'd start dabbling in arcane magic as he leveled (represented by taking the "minor magic" and "major magic" rogue talents), until he eventually decided to devote more time and effort to it and became a Magus or even a Wizard, possibly with the idea of becoming an Arcane Trickster.
Then there was the whole episode with the gnoll tribe, with Gav and his Mo Mo, where Terex got a taste of what a powerful psychic could do... and Terex realized that he is kind of a natural psychic, what with the whole native telepathy thing. So he's kind of been experimenting with that ever since, which is why he took the Psychic Sensitivity feat when we gained a level.
But I'm still kind of debating about what to do with him long-term. I was thinking he might end up becoming a Psychic or perhaps a Magus (Mindblade), as he focuses more and more on developing his native mental prowess.
The problem with all these plans is that none of them really synergize with his rogue levels--they're not great for hitting things, and he'd be starting from caster level 1 at level 6, which isn't great for being useful. So *another* option I've considered is to have him just keep taking rogue levels and keep dabbling in magic and psychic powers by spending feats and rogue talents on them.
Honestly, the fact that Terex spends his smarts on knowing how to do all kinds of things (represented by his huge number of skills) is one of the things I enjoy about him, so I'm kind of reluctant to give up too many of his skill points per level. SO he may just stay rogue. I don't know, we'll see. Events could easily sway him one way or the other.
He might have ended up being a Factotum back in the 3.5 days. :D
Mr Kincaid |
If retraining is allowed, would the Eldritch Scoundrel be of interest?
mdt |
That kills his skill points, which is something he wanted to avoid. You could go with Sage Seeker Sorcerer levels going forward. The sage seeker would use Int based casting stat, and the seeker's special abilities would stack with Rogue levels for trapfinding.
Nate Dragonail |
If it's a kind of magic you want I would definitely go with an int caster they are some of my favorite. Since you'll be "behind" most of the time I would focus on playing a class that gets access to spells which shapes the battlefield like create pit or illusions the enemy have to interact with before getting a chance to disbelive them or put some focus on buffing the team.
I would stay away from the mindblade as he creates weapons instead of enchancing your natural weapons with magic.
For int casters there are the useal suspects.
Wizard, witch, sage sorcerer, arcanist, psychic.
The occultist could be fun with you learning magic from artefacts you find, and he functions purely on int with a 4+ int modifier skills.
For archetype casters there is:
Investigator has some archetypes that changes alchemy for arcane/psychic int based casting like Questioner and Psychic Detective.
Warlock Vigilante which cast spells as a magus but form the wizard/sorcerer list (6th) you can create small bolts to shoot to give sneak attack with touch.
Cabalist vigilante is also and int caster
The last I know of is living grimoire inquisitor but I think that one would be punishing for your build.
mdt |
Questioner Investigator might be best if you want magic + skills. Although the bard list isn't exactly 'master blaster' type. If you like buffs/debuffs/utility magic though, bard is not bad.
Terexaltherin |
Oh, I hadn't thought of Investigator archetypes! Questioner and Psychic Detective would both fit the kind of things I'm thinking of, and Inspiration would help take some of the sting out of losing three skill points a level (two from going to a six skill points a level class, and one from losing Favored Class Bonus). Thanks for pointing them out!
I'm thinking whatever magic Terex picks up in the long run will be more utility-type magic than attack magic. He'll be too far behind the curve for attack magic to be very effective, and really, it suits his personality better, too.
Now, I'm not going to make a final decision for a couple of levels, so things may change, but both of those are looking like good possibilities right now.
Terexaltherin |
So who's waiting on whom right now? I feel like we're in agreement on what to do right now, we just need to... actually go do it.
Mr Kincaid |
Here's the problem, I'd like to do something I think we all would but it's not obvious we have a consensus for what other than lets go explore. Our previous 'quest' was looking for the centaurs but we found dragonkin instead and I guess forgot about them. I suppose Kincaid should ask about them.
I know this is very much a sandbox game but perhaps a little GM nudge might help? :)
mdt |
Well, you *could* try sending back a report and ask for further orders from your boss? I did give you a way to ask for hints in character, that whole magic tube thingy so you can ask HQ for advice in character and get new orders or assistance...
The GM has been hinting at that fairly strongly for a week or two now in the OOC comments...
Terexaltherin |
I believe we were going to do that as soon as we got out of town, but we've just been in town for the past few weeks of gameplay.
If we want to get things moving along, maybe we should just skim over the rest of the day and get us to tomorrow when we're out of town as quickly as possible.
Mr Kincaid |
Thanks Terex, you wrote more or less what I would but stated better. The only change I'd have requested is being a bit more explicit about the money situation, perhaps asking for something we could trade.
Terexaltherin |
Terex was too worried about Kotelia to think about our own problems. :D
Gethraxxis |
im sorry, i couldnt log on since wednesday. everytime it just kicked me back to log in screen :(
