Who would be interested in playing in a Dark Sun campaign? After all it has evil plants, triffids, and more! Not only that, but psionics plays a key role in a Dark Sun campaign.
Actually, Dark Sun is a game setting with a lot of potential. With the variety of deserts around the U.S., Mexico, Africa, and Arabia; Dark Sun can come really alive. My aim is to bring Dark Sun to life. I also think that Dark Sun is the most beautiful of the TSR/WotC Campaign Settings.
System
Pathfinder 1e. All you need is the Core Rulebook if you plan on playing a non-psionic character. Remember, Defiling and Preserving are choices, and not separate classes under Pathfinder.
Psionics System
Ultimate Psionics. I don't like what Paizo did with psychic magic. Psionics comes from within. If you plan on playing a psionic character, you will need Ultimate Psionics.
If you plan on becoming an Advanced Being (Dragon, Avangion, Elemental, or Spirit of the Land), you will need to multiclass into psionic classes.

If i want to go for the opposite of an Avangion, as in more darkness than light, would that be possible?
i plan to make a Dread from UP
Actually, Dragons are the opposites of Avangions. However, I was just reading the Acolyte of the Skin prestige class last night in Complete Arcane. I'd like to say it's possible to become a demon, though.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

One of my favorite games on the boards here was a Dark Sun game where we started as captured slaves in a pit and….deserty heroics ensued. I played a former Gulgite nganga (Gulg templar) who had been captured by Balican slaves and then at the inception of the game had recently been fighting as a gladiator. Fun, fun times.
@Elton - got a few questions:
- will the campaign start with Characters being above 1st level?
- what kind of campaign are you looking to run? Saying Dark Sun is one thing, but are you talking “moonlit soirees and intriguinations” or “tombraiding and treasure lootin’” or “deep motes of the Dragonkings and deeper plots of Athasian history” or “naked doom/gladiator pits and the escape thereof”. I don’t need the extended trailer where I find out all the plot, but a sense of theme would be nice.
- what year are you running things in - I seem to remember there were novel in which a certain city-state was “freed” etc etc…

Yes, actually. I was thinking fourth level.

I haven't thought that far yet, but I've been discussing the world system with a friend.

Ah, Verdant Passage. After the Prism Pentad. That's why I suggested reading both Dark Sun campaign settings.

i can work with that, his/her hatred towards their captors began to manifest as something tangible and terrible

I’m confused. What does the theme of the campaign have to do with the character class?
Look, to be honest, this is still an Interest Check. It isn’t a Recruitment. And as far as an Interest Check goes, its decidedly spares. If it makes it too Recruitment then you might have reason to talk specifics. I for one am already leery for a few reasons - PF1 isn’t really my thing unless a game’s set and setting seems really good. I don’t usually like to start above 1st level, but for Dark Sun it is definitely on brand.
So if this becomes a Recruitment, then I’d like to know a bunch of other things. Character generation. Use of maps. Posting expectations. Those kind of things.

I'm still thinking of a theme. I figured that slaves fighting for freedom is overdone.

I have a melee dicer idea. But let's see if our GM decides on WotW first :P
I'm not running Way of the Wicked. The only city state in all of Athas (that anyone knows of) that is full of do-gooders is New Kurn. And they banish their wicked ones to other City States. Although Oronis is loathe to do it, wondering if the wicked can be redeemed.
Sorry guys. I can think of something else.

Look, you can keep the story premise a secret(Once Decided), but still start with something explosive first.
A caravan at rest for the night, is besieged upon by a powerful necromancer. Many fought hard, only to be brought back as the undead. The necromancer grabs a child while killing it's parents with a wave of his hand. The corrupt magician and child melt into a swarm of insects then disappear.
Our group fights the undead that are left.
