Our 17th-level characters finally defeated the campaign's big bad this morning!

...with a loaf if bread. X'D

In previous encounters, the SOB would discorporate into slimy goo and slip away through a drain or something similar, only to come back in a later encounter, more powerful than before.

This time we surrounded him, blocking easy access to potential escape routes, and delayed our initiative so that we'd all get to go together as a group before the BBEG took their turn. Then we hit him hard, forcing the transformation. Lacking anything better, we wiped him up with an absorbent loaf of bread before he could slip past us again. He's now a really angry animate loafer stuck in a jar! XD

We've been trying to get this guy since level 10. Man! What a way to end a rivalry!

Big thanks to the GM and all the wonderful players who made it happen. I'll never forget it!

Those big bad guys sure do love their gluten free diets

This is why I like recurring monsters. Also, great job thinking inside the bread box!

Now the important question:

Was it Rye, pumpernickel, hardtack, or some dried out ol' loaf someone had been keeping in their extradimensional storage space for years?

Any way you slice it, that is indeed an important question!

Another important question, what will happen to game balance if 1st level characters get access to bread?

Your party certainly weren't loafing around when coming up with a plan for this guy.

See, this is how "100 years after" disasters happen. Next time you guys find a bottle in a dungeon and think "hey, let's open it and see what's inside", remember that that bottle could be some previous heroes' loaf of bread :O

Nice job and fun story.

I thought hardtack was Item 0. I’m not sure what level those others are, so they must be in rule book that I don’t own. I bet that rye is at least Item 4.

At yeast it's all over now.

Reminds me of Expiration Date when Medic holds up the mini bread monster in the jar "Oh look, it hates me so much"
