If your heart's set on a Ranger, I could meet you halfway with: Vagabond Child.
...though halfling rogues never get enough love. LOL Not nudging, just commenting.
eeehhhh, my heart isn't set on 'ranger' and Vagabond child doesn't let him deal with magical traps. I just like the option to go with a dex based ranger that can also serve as the trap guy. It helps the group cover several bases. Of course, depending on how many characters you're taking it may be better if the character is more focused. If were doing 'old school' we could end up with a large party.
I'm just asking about parameters so I can determine which character/personality might be a better fit for the group. What I want to do is bring a character I have history with and move their story forward, hopefully to a satisfying conclusion. I've got several that fit that description. I'll watch and see what the other players put forwards and try to balance the group out with some sort of frontliner, rogue, or maybe a bard.
So waiting for the actual recruitment thread with bated breath :)

I am more than happy to play a Core Rogue and prove the many haters wrong.
Whoa who hates rogues?
Waves suspiciously at Aldizog
It's funny, I'm juggling between two paladins, one a dwarf, the other a human, a human barbarian, a half elf ranger and two halfling rogues. Once the official recruitment is up, I'll get serious about looking at what everyone else is playing then decide.
Hmmm I may do something different and play a straight up fighter, haven't played one of those in years.

Oh, the entire Paizo forum community hates the Core Rogue (or so it seems). Well, just the optimizers, but they are vocal.
Huh, didn't know that. Don't get me wrong, I like unchained rogue better, but still like to play core rogues, you just need to pick your moments in combat a little more.
Oh, I'm also considering a bard as well. But that's less likely than a full BAB.

Dotting for interest - (waves to a few old sparring partners)
Didn't clock until just now that you were allowing a single trait GM PD (and I do love traits :)
Mulling a Dwarf Barbarian with Zest for Battle trait!

I've been doing some thinking, and I've decided that I'm going to close the recruitment, at least for now, going with the following people who've shown interest:
1. Albion, the Eye
2. Andostre
3. Phillip Gaston
4. Dorian 'Grey'
5. Jacob Trier
6. Trawets71
7. Oceanshieldwolf
8. Robert Henry
9. Aldizog
10. DeJoker
11. Djack Nymball
12. Critzible
13. Black Dow
The recruitment for my game will start as closed, save for the 13 people listed above. I'll give all of you first crack at joining this adventure before considering anyone else.
Now in a perfect world, 'd like to keep everyone who applies, but I know my own limits. The most players I ever dm'd, waaay back in my college days, was 9, and that was simply too many. Even more? I'd likely burnout. However, I do want to respect the work people put into applying to a game, and so I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do yet. I know this has been a hot topic around here as of late, and I figured I'd address it head on.
I may go with as many as 7 characters. Or, if I somehow stand on my toilet to hang a picture and then slip and fall and hit my head and go a little crazy...RATHER than invent a flux capacitor.... I might instead change up the adventure completely so that it (or whatever I run then) will require more than one group doing different things at the same time. (i.e. Keep on the Borderlands, but characters splitting up to deal with multiple problems simultaneously.)
That last option is rather unlikely, but I'm brainstorming here. That said, YOU guys are the only people I'm allowing to apply at this point. I'll be Messaging this very post to all of you so no one's left out, and posting the Build details in a day or two.
Feel free to Message me with concerns and whatnot.

Sounds good. My experience, both as a GM and a player, is that 5-6 players is usually the sweet spot for PbP. With a bigger group, it’s hard to keep everyone engaged and the narrative flowing.
I’m currently applying for another game as well, and depending on the outcome I may decide not to apply for this one, but I will keep an eye out for the actual recruitment thread once it is live.

I'm not sure what you mean by this being a hot topic. It has long been my experience on the boards that most recruitments are selective, with the GM personally choosing who they think will make for the best game, either on grounds of the player, the character, or both. I don't think that is particularly controversial; virtually everyone is fine with that. People have different gaming styles and it is partly the GM's responsibility to pick a group that will cohere. Just about everyone knows that they will not get picked for every game they apply to, so I don't think it is disrespectful the work anyone put into their application to not select their PC.
I can tell you that I have a long history of reliable posting; I do not ghost games; I favor a moderate level of optimization and prefer to use good tactics rather than overwhelming stats; I try to avoid rocket tag; I dislike obvious GM softballing; I post frequently but typically on the shorter side in terms of description and post length; and, I know the rules pretty well but try not to be a rules lawyer and do not abuse loopholes. All of these may mean that either I am a good fit for your style or that I am not, and I would expect that to be reflected in your selection (as well as the characteristics of my submission once it is ready).

Well said. :D
My comments were not intended as anything other than a clarification of my thinking process on the matter of choosing characters for my game, based on a few heated conversations I have seen as of late, which I do not intend to rehash here.
Nothing was intended as a jab at anyone, and if I somehow ruffled any feathers, my apologies. I hope that is not the case.
