So a player wants to go diving into the planets core, and see if its all a tangle of ley lines.
Did a chunk of research and have not found anything that says one way or another, so just checking here to see if anyone had answers on the subject.
My initial thought is that it is not, that the ley lines weave in and out between the planes, only intersecting at random points (thus keeping the lines rare and valuable).

I run things by the 'yes, and ... / no, but ...' method of GMing, so it seems you just need another plot thread for them to follow up on when they find out that ley lines do not fill the center of the earth.
Maybe you build an adventure for them to explore the center of the earth and through a mysterious event they end up elsewhere where ley lines do converge. Maybe they find a way to scry through solid earth and find a lost civilization beneath the darklands -- or its ruins. Maybe they find that a secret cabal already has the answers and is bent on making sure the party never learns the truth.
Also, their vision of ley lines sounds like some great chances for a Final Fantasy VII crossover. If it is coming from that, you might want to steal a moment or two from that game just for laughs.

this idea is copied from actual fantastical works on the occult and such. Clearly your player missed the DC as Ley Lines travel near the hard crust of a planet and not through the core. You can review articles on wikipedia etc. It involves "magic numbers" and magical amulet representational symbology (a pictorial cypher if you know the "magic word")...
In the Game, AoN has Ley Lines
In Org Play there were 2 boons where PCs could gain benefits from Ley Lines. Really they're not bad but rather location specific.
I don't think RAW plots them but they may have some pretty pictures. As a GM you will have to map "important magical locales" on a map and then start drawing lines between them. That will give you a network of Ley Lines. The clear drawback is that once you use this device players can and will track the ley lines back to their sources to find mythical places of magic.
Another interesting idea on this theme is in Forgotten Realms "The Weave". You might research that.

There is also a Ley Line Guardian witch archetype, but its alternate class features don't require proximity to ley lines. Combine that with a suitable patron for extra flavor (boundaries, protection, mountain, forest, space, etc.).
