Heirloom Weapon and Martial Performance

Does having Proficiency with a Martial weapon through the Heirloom Weapon Trait allow a Bard to get Weapon Focus with said weapon from Martial Performance?

Martial Performance (Ex): The bard chooses one weapon belonging to a fighter weapon group that is associated with a Perform skill he has selected with versatile performance (see below). He gains proficiency with this weapon. If the bard is already proficient with this weapon or later becomes proficient with it, he gains Weapon Focus with that weapon as a bonus feat instead. In addition, the bard’s effective fighter level is equal to 1/2 his bard level for the purpose of qualifying for feats that specifically select weapons from those Perform skills’ associated fighter weapon groups. The types of Perform skills and their associated fighter weapon groups are: Act (close, double), Comedy (flails, thrown), Dance (monk, spears), Keyboard Instruments (hammers, siege engines), Oratory (heavy blades, light blades), Percussion (close, hammers), Sing (close, natural), String (axes, bows), and Wind (monk, thrown).

the character has " proficiency with that specific weapon" that mean he can take other feats that have that as a requirement. BUT as the ability grant only the proficiency with said weapon. if it is lost\stolen\destroyed etc he effectively has a proficiency and feat invested in a weapon he doesn't own any more with all the problems that might bring.

Use AeN, not D20. D20 has changed the formatting and added a "benefit" heading that confuses.

The correct formatting is:

Quote:
You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family (pay the standard gp cost for the weapon). When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits: proficiency with that specific weapon, a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity with that specific weapon, or a +2 trait bonus on one kind of combat maneuver when using that specific weapon.

You don't get proficiency with a kind of weapon, you get proficiency with the weapon passed down in your family. Not "bastard swords", but "grandpa Loren bastard sword".

Do you want to get an enchanted version?
You need to use Masterwork transformation on grandpa Loren's bastard sword and then enchant it. You can't buy one out of the shelf.

It doesn't work, because for things like Martial Performance or Weapon Focus, the rules use "weapon" as a game term that means "type of weapon". Bardic Performance doesn't have you choose one specific physical object, it has you choose a type of weapon, e.g. "longsword". The trait works differently, but since it doesn't give you proficiency with the type, the condition for Martial Performance's "If the bard is already proficient with this weapon or later becomes proficient with it" is not fulfilled.

You could ask the GM for a middle ground, i.e. that you do get Weapon Focus, but only with the specific heirloom weapon.
