I have an old coffee can full of pennies. That should work.

You just have to do even[1]/odd[2] with any die [other than a d3]. Just upend your dice pouch and watch them roll...

Verdant Wheel

Ok.

Product Pitch:

"Signature Spell" pouches with the names of various high-volume damage spells colored and fonted in different Tradition styles.

Matching dice sold separately.

But 1 is an odd number and 2 is an even number! Don't do this to my brain!

*shifty eyes* I guess I failed my sleight of hand roll... :P

Ah yes, for copper-zinc dragons.

I like rolling lots of dice, but I'll concede with everyone else here and say that d4s are terrible for rolling. In fact thinking about this, and the fact I have my own pet RPG I'm designing, I think I might remove them entirely. They just don't roll. Awful

Show me someone who enjoys rolling a handful of d4s more than a handful of d6s or d10s, and I'll show you someone who is lying (either to you or themself).

Silver Crusade

I don't know about "more" but I enjoy rolling handfuls of dice all the same.

Personally, d4s are one of my favorite dice to roll because of their definitive, sharp "click" when they land. They feel different! That's what a magic missile feels like!

You have to make sure they tumble in the air, usually by quickly moving your hand before release to give them that spin.

Speak for yourself. The wizard in my party absolutely loves upcasting a homebrew magic missile spell, and he will often roll 15d4 at a time. The entire group enjoys it so much I told him that as he continues to upcast it he needs to have enough d4s to roll all at once, even if he eventually casts it at 9th level and needs 27d4 to do so, and he loves the idea. It's his go-to spell, nearly always prepared in his highest slot.

As mentioned previously, complaining about rolling dice in a game about rolling dice is indeed quite silly, especially when there are plentiful digital solutions for those who don't want to do so.

You guys roll physical dice? Funny.

My dice have been with me for 20 plus years. They worship me and roll the way I tell them. I can't get that from an app unless I can hack it.

The advantage of a game using exactly one type of die is that you can pack enough of them. For Exalted 30 d10s will probably have you sorted, and for GURPS Mecha you can get cubes of 100d6 for pretty cheap.

The problem is in games like this that use a bunch of different kinds of dice, since I own fewer d8s, d12s, and d4s than the other kinds.

Oh yeah, mine too. Except, they give me the rolls I Need, not the rolls I Want.

Apparently, I need to roll just 2 shy of the target number fairly frequently. It must teach humility or something.

I still have the dice from my basic d&d box set. ;)

Same here! That's still my set of dice, which has only seen the addition of another d10 for easier d100 rolls, and another d20 because I found it around and just threw it in the bag.

My d4 has got a chipped tip from the time it fell from the table and hit the floor in some unlucky way, but I'm not going to replace it.

In PF2, if those 2 points would have been covered by the target being flat-footed or otherwise de-buffed, they may be trying to teach teamwork.

As for dice, the d20 I have must pull double-duty both for D&D style games where higher is better, and another system where you try to roll at or below the target number to succeed. So far they have been rolling pretty balanced, so I can't complain.

But yes, sometimes just throwing a handful of dice at the enemy is soo satisfactory.

I'm starting to feel like I'm the only person who uses a dice cup to tumble my dice before emptying it into the dice tray...

Nope, I also use a cup and tray! I also use bigger d20s for faster reading. That said, my preferred amount of dice is the lower of however many can be loaded into a single cup in 30 seconds, or however much can be counted in 30 seconds, because more than that feels oppressively slow to the rest of the players

Shadow Lodge

7th Sea had a good system for Too Many Dice. It was a d10 roll & keep system. Many things changed how many dice you rolled, you kept the best X with fewer things changing the kept. But if you would roll more than 10 dice, you just started keeping more. And if you got all the way up to 10 keep 10, you just added +10 for every die you would add past that. The system also relied on your dice exploding a lot (10's =10 + another die) so that +10 isn't as nice as it could be, but still darn good.

Meanwhile Numenera only requires a single d20 and maybe 2d6 (sometimes). And Shadow of the Demon Lord, which needs a single d20, and a theoretical infinite amount of d6 if you wanna tryhard it!

I've only seen that one other place, and that's Dungeons the Dragoning: 40,000 7th edition. That had a XkY system as well, but it also had a decent amount of static multipliers to keep raw dice count down. All these system for different amounts of throwing tons or little amounts of dice... Almost as if different people want different things out of their games :P And papa bless Paizo for finding a middle ground that makes most people happy

The cypher system is hands down my favourite rules light system. It is so easy to use for any setting and anything I want to homebrew I can with little time or effort.

It and symbaroum taught me the joys of "players roll all the dice" systems.

Although I wish ths strange had a 2e like numenera did.
