Could you explain in more detail what you're expecting to fly?
Ingredients: the value of ingredients is defined. Exact ingredients are not. In a game, the GM might allow specific things to be the ingredients, but just "2 potions as the ingredients for 4 potions" doesn't seem very logical.
Then Crafting. This is going to take 4 days of downtime, plus additional downtime to get down to the minimum cost. I doubt you'll ever see a society scenario with the ability to spend that kind of downtime in the middle of it, since PFS has been going with a structure of awarding a specific number of days of downtime after each scenario.
Between scenarios, it won't really change anything if you want to donaome crafting in your walking cauldron or outside of it.

Free ingredients for downtime crafting? That will absolutely not ever fly in PFS. When you find potions during a scenario, two things can happen:
1. Someone uses them during the scenario.
2. No one uses them during the scenario, then they go away at the end.
There is no #3 loophole to turn them into bonus wealth that you keep after the scenario.

I'm looking at the walking cauldron and I'm wondering if I could just pour 2 potions of the same type into it and use that as my ingredients for crafting a batch of 4 potions. And would this fly in society play?
I am completely confused. What do you think the Walking Cauldron does?

You don't really need to know what I think it does to answer my question
We kind of do as potions aren't materials for other potions so the question doesn't make sense: you can't take a slice of cake and use it to replace the flour needed for another cake. The only thing it can hold is "ingredients" for either "potions" or "other liquids". It's like you asked how many pickles makes a dog fly: you shouldn't be surprised when someone asks what you think about pickles would make a dog fly.
I love the Walking Cauldron. I just stuff 2 bulk worth of crap in there and it's like a poor man's bag of holding.
It only works for what the DM agrees is an "ingredients for potions or other liquids". You can't just toss in a dagger or a set of armor unless there is a potion formula that requires them as ingredients.
PS: link for item Walking Cauldron. How to format is listed under the 'How to format your text' under the posting window.

I asked because your post suggests that you are trying to pour potions into the cauldron in order to make more potions. That isn't remotely how the cauldron or crafting works so you've obviously deeply misunderstood something. Having you explain your reasoning would have made it easier to address that specific misunderstanding.
But, in the absence of that, I'll answer your three questions.
No, no, and no.

Raw ingredients are always gonna cost hard gold. Aside from getting specific loot like "40 gold's worth of alchemy ingredients". Maybe, breaking down potions to their raw ingredients with a crafting check as if you're trying to create a formula could work as a home rule. Probably would only get a portion of the value back I'd say. You can melt down special metal weapons to make different weapons. I could see this working for alchemy.

You dont ever need tell me what I think. My own questions dont hint at my own thoughts (that's just ridiculous).
The Walking Cauldron obviously works ONLY RAW. My own personal thinking or feelings are irrelevant.
If you really want to talk to someone about my thoughts then can you at least leave me out of it, thanks.
Also, thank you for answering my question anyway, you did what I asked for.

It clearly did as you SAID you wanted to put potions in it: "I'm wondering if I could just pour 2 potions of the same type into it and use that as my ingredients for crafting a batch of 4 potions." Either you where lying there or you thought you could put potions in it... If you didn't think it was possible, why ask? :P

How you thought it worked vs how it does work is quite important. if you didn't think it could hold potions, why ask if they could?

Dude, you came here to ask question and we're trying to figure out why you're getting the wrong idea on how the item works as the question you asked doesn't make sense if you did understand it. If we can resolve that disconnect then that can fix this AND future questions you might have with the item. If you're looking for 'just the facts' then maybe post in the Rules section instead of General.
Also, thank you for answering my question anyway, you did what I asked for.
No problem.
