I have a serious question about the Magnificent Mansion spell. It states it holds enough food for a multicourse 150 person feast. How the hell are 150 people fitting into a 40x40 room?
'a mansion featuring a magnificent foyer and numerous opulent chambers. The mansion can have any floor plan you imagine as you Cast the Spell, provided it fits within a space 40 feet wide, 40 feet deep, and 30 feet tall'
40x40 isn't even a single opulent chamber, much less a foyer and numerous.
Honestly this spell is broken as written and simply doesn't work as intended.
If there's one thing that CR has taught me, it's that there is nothing game breaking or OP about letting a character make their own wizard mansion. Limiting the spell so much is just wild to me, and the 9th level one isn't much better as the spell conjures a literal physical structure, severely limiting it's usage since it's impermanent.
Anyone else just house rule that the size is bigger? Does anyone else think perhaps the rules intend that EACH CHAMBER AND FOYER can't be larger than 40x40, and not the full structure itself?

If you count 5' squares, 40x40' = 64 squares. 30' high is at least 3 stories, maybe 4. 64 x 3 = 192, enough for those 150 people and 24 staff, with a little left over.
Plus, people sitting at a table probably don't need 5', unless they're practicing social distancing.
This said, I'll agree it doesn't sound much like a "mansion".

Magic got smaller
Most of the magic changing to be a bit more weak is fine, imo. But spells like this, which are AMAZING tools of fantastic RP, in a role playing game, absolutely should not be.
My 20th level PC in Agents of Edgewatch spent all her money at the end, before the final boss encounter essentially, and got lucky with a nat20 on the ritual for Create Demiplane as a 10th level spell.
She made an entire paradise for the party, based on their own interests, and I allowed the player to add in a 'if she doesn't make it, they become effectively the owners of the plane'. The amount of emotion and feeling from that, a potential parting gift from a beloved friend, was amazing.
Fast forward to now where Magnificent Mansion is more like 'Abadar's Adequate Stonks Tower'.

Well, the banquet hall of one of the largest royal castles of early to mid medieval Europe was about 80ft by 40ft. That's the White Tower of London. So if it was ALL banquet hall, you'd be about half the size of a real world king's castle's.
But yeah, an entire mansion being within 40 ft by 40 ft is a bit hard to figure out.
Like there's small dungeon rooms that are a bit cramped (the Shemhaizen ink guy in Agents of Edgewatch comes to mind) but uh... What if a giant wizard used this spell? Guys screwed.

It fits according to modern event planning guidelines.
30 feet high means 3 floors.
So 40x40x3 = 4800 square feet / 150 people = 32 sq.ft per person
We allow 20-50 square feet per person for dining in function halls.
You can absolutely get a buffet in there, no problems. For sit down meals it would be workable but tight.
Finally, food for 150 doesn't mean you have to seat 150. People will stuff themselves with the free nosh and eat double or triple.

Good point about the multiple floors, but I feel like you gotta have the head space for a chandelier and a sit down table, otherwise it kind of gets that "cursed thanksgiving" feeling.

So this mansion provides a feast larger than the people in it can eat? I think this is the part that is supposed to make it "magnificent". ;)
Three cramped ass floors, assumedly with stairs or at worst a rope to climb, which takes up even MORE of the already limited space.
That Zwillow ad was spectacular.
That's another question. Do the servants simply appear with the food already prepared? Does the food just 'exist' in an edible state for 24 hours? Is it always Hot and Ready?
Is this Little Taldors?
I think the minutae of the food is down to the caster or spell variant learned. Likewise the appearance of the servant and the decor.
There might be an example in one of the Rhialto novels (Vance's Dying Earth books).
