Here he is: Remlin

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So been working on a character. Concept is basically a young sorcerer turning into a Arcanist. There are some "reskins" going on , but I have been asking a lot of rules questions and advice so thought I would share...He is pretty much "Locked in" now, so no real changes are going to be made. I KNOW a lot of him is not the best it can be...and I don't care at this point. I am happy with him, and just sharing in case anyone was interested

Remlin has had a hard life up to this point, with an uncontrolled "gift" of magic coursing throuhg his veins. After a couple accidents and the curse of his birth he has ran away

He is trying to learn to control his "gifts" as best he can, however in his sleep he sees a man whose body is destroyed by magic on one side, while glowing on the other laughing at him....

Notes:
A) Do not have datapack for Multidiciplined 1/2 elf Racial trait. Gives +1 CL to two spellcasting classes (cannot exceed actual character level), no bonuses to # of spells etc...This is added as adjustments. Replaces multitalented, thus one favored class marked as "commoner"

B) going to have to use some adjustments to get Bloodline development and Evangilist to play nice...

C) Character plan, subject to change
...2) AEt: metamagic feat (Toppling?)
...3) Deific Obedience Nethys (Combat Casting)
...4) Arcanist Exploit (AE)- Bloodline development
...5) Predigious spellcaster
...6) Evangilist of Nethys
...7) AE: craft magic armor, ????

Looks good, though I notice you haven't done many replacements of racial traits:

If you don't need a Skill Focus feat (e.g. for Eldritch Heritage), trade Adaptability away. Since you have Comprehend Languages on your sorcerer spell list, you might want to take a look at the "Mordant Envoy" alternate racial trait, as it adds that spell as a SLA; then, simply replace Comprehend Languages with Recharge Innate Magic! (That last spell is so nice on Darkborn.)

And to any full caster I recommend trading the Keen Senses (Perception +2) in for a Spell Focus (Illusion, Conjuration, or Transmutation). [Illustrious Urbanite]

If you want to boost your other saving throws, consider "Thinblood Resistance" in place of Elven Immunities -- Will saves are usually a caster's forte, while Fort saves are more difficult to pass. You could use Adaptability to get the "Dual Minded" trait to compensate.

Finally for racial traits, you took the wrong Darkvision: When you trade Low-Light Vision away for Darkvision 60ft, the Half-Elf version gives you Light Blindness while the Elf version only gives you Light Sensitivity.

As for item creation feats: If you don't want to take them for WBL improvements, just use Paragon Surge to get the creation feat you need at the time.

Adaptability is traded away for the drow spells, so is multidiscipline. (also traded is languages and low light)

Great call on Paragon Surge, but how do you get around the 1/min a level...I can't think of any crafting done in less that 20 min

Oh, I see. I kinda thought you kept Multidisciplined to raise the caster level after the other rules discussion. I assumed you took Drow Spirit instead to gain the SLAs. What did you take as feat on 1st level then?

As for Paragon Surge, it depends on how long you need it according to your GM. I assume you only do item creation on downtime activity days, right? Then there's usually no need for any other spellcasting (outside the item spells), so you can cast Paragon Surge Extended a few times per day. If you lack the metamagic or the spell slots, consider buying Lesser Metamagic Rods (Extend & Echo), as they can aid in squeezing as much time as possible out of the spell duration and they also come in very handy while adventuring; that should give you a few hours.
Another option is to buy an Ampoule of False Blood with blood from the Shapechanger bloodline (since the Arcane bloodline is useless on downtime days) to get its 3rd-level power:

Quote:
Mutable Flesh (Su): At 3rd level, once per day when you cast a transmutation spell with a duration of 1 minute per level that affects only you, you can increase its duration to 10 minutes per level. At 9th level, you can increase the duration to 1 hour per level.

Paragon Surge fits perfectly, and you can still use Extend on it, so once you hit caster level 13+ you can actually cast it the previous day and it would last for more than 24hours. Very useful to do on your last day of downtime activity.

Combine any of the 2 above methods with a Reservoir Tattoo and you get Paragon Surge's bonus feat for an entire adventuring day! :D

The Reservoir Tattoo also circumvents the FAQ that nerfed Paragon Surge: You can have several tattoos (you're a Tattooed Sorcerer after all :D) and the tattoo only suspends the spell instead of casting it again, which means when you activate the stored Paragon Surge tattoo, then it doesn't count as you having cast Paragon Surge already on that day and when you cast Paragon Surge again, you can choose another bonus feat to take.

However, you cannot have more than one Paragon Surge active at any time, since it's a polymorph spell. You can suspend the spell in one of your reservoir tattoos however.

I took the trait version to do the levels, I took Favored Prestige Class for the feat. Unfortunatly I will need to use my first three feats to be ready for level 6...

I see, I see.

The other racial trait advice remains: Take the Elf "Darkvision" trait instead of the Half-Elf "Drow-Blooded" trait, take the Drow "Seducer" trait (since you seem to go for the Enchantment school) or the Elf "Dreamspeaker" trait (if you go for Divination) [-Elven Immunities], and strongly consider the Elf "Illustrious Urbanite" trait for a Spell Focus [-Keen Senses].

You're also going for an Evangelist of Nethys. In that case I recommend the Echo Metamagic Rods again, as they also work on Channel the Gift.

Definitely take Recharge Innate Magic as a 1st-level spell (sorcerer?).

As for your familiar: The Valet archetype is good for delivering touch spells, but for item crafting I recommend the more versatile Figment archetype; with the Shared Evolution & Skilled evolutions, you can get a +8 racial bonus on your crafting skill instead of a +2 circumstance bonus. And when adventuring it can grant you another good evolution (Evolution list), e.g. immunity to fire/cold/acid/shock/sonic.

Good food for thought. I like the Valet, just fits better, but might take the feat to give it an evolution...

Just found out, Recharge is limited to gnomes during character creation

"Spell requires a requisite religion or race. If religion, spellcaster must worship the listed deity to utilize the spell. If race, the spell might only target members of the listed race (the spell will say this if it does), but often are just the race's guarded secrets. Members of other races can learn to cast them with GM permission."

Unlike Paragon Surge, which can only target a Half-Elf, anyone can learn the other racial spells -- as written above the GM can prohibit it though.

In the worst case, you have to wait until you can cast Paragon Surge once, then take the feat Racial Heritage (Gnome), and then learn the spell Recharge Innate Magic. Since it's not a prerequisite to know/cast/target the spell (just to learn it), you can then keep the spell after Paragon Surge expired. :D

Make sure to take a look at other such feats, especially if they allow to take something permanent without it being a prerequisite, e.g. you can permanently learn Druidic while temporarily having the Druidic Decoder feat.

His logic is that it can't be a free spell, if I find a scroll or what have you THEN I can learn it. Obviously this will have to wait for my Arcanist levels (He also said if I had a scroll in my possession when I leveled to the next level of sorcerer....)

So Remlin, poor remlin...he was down to 0 HP last night...thank Pharasma that the Swashbuckler had a cure light wounds potion...Then the Swash went down to 3 HP and gambled on an unidentified potion being a cure light wounds (He had been told that they smelled the same...)

Chicks with daggers are dangerous in Kingmaker...

Used the scroll as well

Close call, I guess. Did you end up taking some of the Elf or Drow racial traits or only Half-Elf ones?

GM ruled only Half-elf (alternate racial) traits allowed, normal traits I took Magical Lineage (Magical missile) and Bifurcated Magic (Sorcerer and Arcanist). About 650 xp to go before we level. Going to go with toppling and Magic Missile...

My thoughts on his starting spell book (level 2), would like opinions

Greece, Identify, sleep, Magic Missile*, Color Spray*, Ray of Slickening, Feather Fall

Memorizing color Spray and Magic Missile while adventuring. Taking the toppling Metamagic feat with an exploit, so Magic Missile should be functioning at level 3 (2 darts) with Toppling on it (I did change the varisian tattoos to evoc). Will snag Bloodline development at level 4 (yes delaying some abilities till 4, but that's okay)

Cantrips memorized: Light, Ghost Sound, Ray of Frost, Flare.

I'm glad to see this on your character, from the first post I was wondering what this character could offer to a party to make it worthwhile to have you around.

Level 2 the character becomes a lot more useful with level 1 being a force multiplier

To expand on what I was saying. I know his arcanist portion will make him more useful, and a lot of his choices do not benefit anyone till later levels. Theoretically, taking his first two levels in opposite order would have been better (from a mechanical POV) but fits the character growth idea better. By level 4 (Sorcerer 1/Arcanist 3) he will have full access to his bloodline and Level 6 (Sorcerer 1/Arcanist 4, Evangelist 1) will be where all the sacrifices come to fruition.
