Looks like the Spiritualist has been merged with the Summoner

One of the four playtest Eidolons is a Devotion Phantom, and it seems heavily implied that there are going to be more phantoms with different emotional focuses when Secrets of Magic is released.

I personally think it's neat. Summoners and Spiritualists did cover similar mechanical ground in Pathfinder 1e, and tying them both closer together in 2e makes sense to me.

It kinda makes sense, but it does mean that you lose a lot of the unique customization and necromantic flavor the Spiritualist had which is kind of a shame.

Yeah, I'm completely on board with this. It's very cool. Occult casting is sufficient to get the spooky vibe, at least for me.

Not unexpected! I'll miss phantoms being able to phase through stuff, though. That'd be a cool option to get, even as a high level feat.

I could see that being a phantom-only evolution feat.

There's already one phantom-only feat that would be a perfect precursor to that in fact!

I'd like to see more feats specific to particular types of eidolon to help distinguish them a bit more like that.

You beat me to this thread (darn work getting in the way!). I called this a while back. I've always felt that the Spiritualist was their "Summoner redo" so to speak. You can see it in the way Eidolons work at their core now too.
