Hi Everyone,
I am going to be running a PF1 Kingdom building campaign in the Forgotten Realms. Since I am not making a map myself, I have to rely on what I can find online for the realms. I have found some really good maps using 6 mile hexes or 20 mile, which are about a third smaller or 3 times larger than 12 mile hexes used in the Ultimate Campaign rules.
So, when adjusting the size of the hex, how should I change the UC rules? OR should I even bother?

Wishing you great success! I am a huge fan of Forgotten Realms, and I've been mostly running (but occasionally playing) in a series of Forgotten Realms campaigns since 2e/1990. I used the Apocalypse Stone module to "upgrade" the campaign world to 3.0 in 2001 (and later we upgraded to 3.5 on the fly without such a literal ground-shaking event).
We finally moved partially to Pathfinder in 2016 (playing a 3.5/Pathfinder hybrid) and then completely to Pathfinder (v1) in 2018. Back in the late 90s we took our old college characters through the Bloodstone Lands series of modules (starting with Bloodstone Pass), and they now rule the reunited Kingdoms of Damara and Vassa as the Kingdom of the Bloodstone Lands. And in that Kingdom is where all subsequent campaigns have taken place (except for our current campaign, Rappan Athuk, which I've placed outside of Forgotten Realms).
Which is all just a very wordy way of saying that I really love Forgotten Realms and am sitting on a crap-load of FR material dating all they way back to Second Edition.

Heh.
Here's a copy of my answer from that other thread, so save bouncing around:
It partly depends on what is being meant by a "6-mile hex" or a "20-mile hex" (though my calculations make that second map closer to 15 miles per hex, which is rather amusing since the legend says it's 10).
If we assume that both mean "corner to corner", then a 12-mile hex has an area of 93.6 m^2, a 6-mile hex has an area of 23.4 m^2 and a 15-mile hex has an area of 146.1 m^2.
The only change you'd actually need to make would be to hex population densities - the UCam rules assume 250 people per 93.6 mile-squared hex, so a 6-miler would have 62.5 people per hex, and a 15-miler would have 390. Everything else can be run as written without any impact on the balance of the subsystem.

Also, to back up HighLordNightshade, I've been playing in FR since 1E AD&D, it's a really fun setting. My players created a kingdom in what in the 4/5E Realms is now the kingdom of Najara (in fact, the capital is right across the river from Ss'thar'tiss'ssun).
I love the realms, and wish you the best of luck!

Awesome, thank you.
There was a second thread started for this which got a good answer:
At least Chemlak found that one...
Yes, and thanks for linking to it in this one. Thanks again everyone for the helpful feedback! :D
