What is a poison dose?

Advice

What constitutes a "dose" with poison? If you have a poison ability, let's say through a class ability such as Progenitor's Sting in the Scorpion Bloodline, is there a way to store it up for use other than on a weapon so that it would apply to a "dose" effect such as with Toxic Spell? Or would this primarily be a GM ruling?

As a GM, I wouldn't allow you to store the Progenitor's Sting ability, but if you were a race that had a venomous bite I would consider letting you milk yourself to store the poison and create a dose of poison that could be used.

But this is a pretty grey area and going to vary by GM.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So this is RAW for harvesting poison from living creatures (not dead.)

Quote:
Milking a single dose of poison from a creature takes 10 minutes of work and requires a successful Handle Animal check (DC = 10 + the donor’s Hit Dice + the donor’s Wisdom modifier). Failure by less than 5 indicates that the venom is not collected, but the handler suffers no other ill effect. Failure by 5 or more indicates that the creature bites, stings, or otherwise injects the handler with its venom. It automatically hits the handler with one of its natural attacks that delivers its poison, and it applies the effects of the attack normally. The creature might continue to attack the handler after doing so, possibly initiating combat. Milking venom from a cooperative intelligent creature doesn’t require a Handle Animal check but presents a 5% chance of exposure to the venom.

That suggests that if you have a poison ability, you might be able to "cooperate with yourself" and harvest poison.

I wouldn't allow it for Progenitor's Sting in any case, because that's a spell-like ability which basically conjures poison onto the weapon, not something that can be harvested any more than any similar spells could.

Ok thanks
