I figure a great house rule that may speed up combat AND make casters feel more involved in their spells is to simply have them roll their Spellcasting attack against the monster/NPC's saving DC. That way, the DM isn't rolling 10 saves for a bunch of goblins in a fireball AND the caster feels more in control of the spell they are casting.
What about Critical Success and Failures for the saving throws you ask? Simply flip the descriptions so instead of a critical saving success, it's a critical failing attack! And vice versa!
You're welcome.

I like this. It also gives those save spells a tiny power boost, as the "ties" go to the roller when you just make the DC.
Only issue I see is large AoEs hitting many enemies become much less consistent, potentially swinging between wiping a big group or doing nothing where either possibility was much less likely before.

You just have to roll one attack per enemy to solve this issue. It still makes tons of rolls, but it speeds things up as the player is rolling while the DM is searching for monster's saves instead of having him doing both things.

Good idea. I may propose this house rule to my players and see what they think.
