This is going to tie the John Wick and Bill and Ted movies together.
That would explain so much AND establish an interconnected Keanuverse. Shared Universes are all the rage. Johnny Mnemonic was just a prequel to Matrix. Speed 1 and 2 took place in earlier versions of the Matrix!

Two teasers, depending on what pill you want to take.
Full trailer Thursday.
I very much filed this under "unnecessary cash-in" but I am intrigued by some of the reports sneaking out that this could be interesting.

Even if the movie isn't good, these teasers had a nifty trick in them I hadn't seen before. That alone was well worth the time to watch them.

It will probably do better than Dune...
I doubt it, if only because they've delayed the marketing for it to the point that barely anybody knows it exists and it'll be out in three months, whilst Dune had its first trailers over a year ago, and the hype has been ramping up over the last few months and it's still a month before it comes out.
The second and third Matrix films also eliminated a lot of goodwill towards the franchise (and made less and less money).
On the other hand, we do live in the Age of Keanu and (as anecdotal and thus useless as it is) I've noticed younger people who've watched all three films back to back seem more well-disposed to the franchise. There's also an element of Lana Wachowski wanting to reclaim the iconography from some of the more moronic elements who've tried to co-opt it for their own use.
Early buzz from those who've seen the full movie also suggests it's really weird and really wild, and not the soulless cash-grab people might be expecting.

I see what you did there.

I admit I’m leery about the story, considering the way they ended the original trilogy. Not to mention, I wasn’t happy that John Wick 4 would be delayed.
Anyway, after watching the trailer, I see that this new movie looks to be visually stunning. I’m cautiously optimistic.
And the song for the trailer was spectacularly appropriate.

I think I'll go at it as if this is the only Matrix movie. From this trailer that looks like a good approach to liking this movie.
FWIW - of the second and third movies I didn't see much point to the second and only liked the very end of the third.
I think the second film really depended on the third being a stellar set up. Like The Matrix (bump), Reloaded (set), Revolutions (spike). Problem is they crashed it all right into the net.

I think the second film was a bit of a stealth thing, where they started with MOAR MATRIX to appease people who wanted more action and then went in this philosophical bait-and-switch direction which they couldn't deliver well because the only way they could think of to deliver things was through a lengthy lecture by a guy in a chair.
The third film then made the bold choice to be set about 90% outside the Matrix and the major setpiece of the movie - the Battle for Zion - didn't really involve any well-established characters from the first movie.
The second and third movies also suffered by having a lot of important plot, character and worldbuilding stuff happening off-screen in video games or THE ANIMATRIX, which is great if you saw those things but not so great if you didn't.
I think the storyline, setup and plot of the entire trilogy is very solid, but the second and third films suffered a lot from execution more than the underlying ideas not working. They're certainly not phoned-in, soulless sequels made for the money, and I always have to respect something where the creators went in a weird and unexpected direction, even if they fell flat on their face. A MATRIX 2 where Keanu just does more kung fu fighting tougher Agents for the whole movie would have been a much safer option rather than bringing in a third faction and doing a near-FF7 level of mindfeck on the backstory.

Seeing that the Merovingian is in this one lets me know that there'll be a five minute break in the action where I can go empty my bladder, at least.

Oh yeah, this guy.

I learned recently that they built their own stretch of freeway for that scene because it was cheaper than the logistics of using an existing "real" freeway. Aside from the cost of shutting down a real freeway and moving or acquiring what they needed onsite, someone figured out that the on-ramps and off-ramps on possible freeways were too far apart, so it would take too long (and time = money) to reset scenes by moving the cars from one end of the stretch of road for retakes.

The freeway scene was fine, but the other fight scenes in RELOADED all have a problem that they go on way too long. Neo's "admission" fight with Seraph and the burly brawl are both mental, but worst of all is the fight between Neo and the Merovingian's bodyguards which goes on way, way too long given how completely inconsequential it is.
