Nonlethal trait on a spell

Say for example I use Phantom Pain. I have a number of questions.

1) Do I have to do anything different since it deals non lethal damage?
2) How does it work?
3) Are quite a few creatures immune to nonlethal? 4) Can I convert the damage to lethal?

1. No, you don't need to declare lethal vs. non-lethal intent when casting spells with the non-lethal trait. My understanding is that non-lethal spells are always non-lethal.

2. I believe non-lethal spells (of which daze was the one I pondered) work as follows. Since the spell has the non-lethal trait, it will not affect certain creatures, like animated objects. If its damage brings a creature to 0 HP, that creature is unconscious for a few minutes, but not slain.

3. There are certain creatures, like animated brooms, that are immune to anything (spells or weapons) with the non-lethal trait.

4. If you are attacking with a non-lethal weapon, you can attempt to kill with it, but that does not remove the non-lethal trait from the weapon, and so does not let that weapon damage a creature that is immune to attacks with non-lethal weapons. Likewise creatures that are immune to non-lethal will not be affected by your non-lethal spells. The core rule book uses the example of a stone golem and says that non-matter how hard you punch it, you will not hurt it (unless you are a monk whose fists do not have the non-lethal trait).
