SLAs and using Spell Triggers.

Rules Questions

So, I'm kind of looking for a definitive answer on this topic. Let's say I'm a Rogue, with the True Professional archetype and the Magical Expertise sub-ability. Say I take Greater Magical Talent (Cure Light Wounds), because the Magical Expertise sub-ability lets me take from any spell list, not just the wizard/sorcerer list.

According to a 2011 FAQ ruling, I *can't* use a wand of cure light wounds without a dc 20 UMD check, but according to a 2015 FAQ ruling I can actually (help) create one. Is this still the case, or am I missing a more recent ruling?

Still the case. You can supply item spell requirements via spell-like ability, but you still need the spell on your actual spell list to use spell trigger items.

If you're asking whether the archetype in question changes this, you'll have to ask the folks who published it, as true professional is third-party material. Looking it over, though, I don't see any wording that would override the general rules.

No, I was asking if SLAs had been updated with the four year later allowance for making items that, apparently, you can't actually use. Which is, to say the least, annoying.

Frankly, I was surprised when they issued the FAQ that SLAs count for prerequisites, so it's difficult for me to be upset that they gave the players a cookie but no glass of milk.

Being able to make a wand without being able to use that wand feels more like they offered us the cookie, but we can only have it if we can get to it. Without breaking open the locked display case with the lock super glued.

So, better if you couldn't make the wand at all? That seems to me an odd position to take.

Some people like consistency a lot and get upset by its absence. It's especially common in PF fans.

when the ruling came out that SLAs are not casting a Spell that was the end of it. Spell completion requires the spell on your spell list. This doomed a class or two to use UMD.
Using the path outlined above in the OP, Wand or Scroll --> UMD.

Advice: if you want to cast, just invest 2 levels in Arcanist with Dimensional Slide or 1 level in Wizard(Diviner) AND the starting trait Magical Knack. Samsaran's have Mythic Past. It opens the doors to spells you want (shield, mage armor, infernal healing, vanish, obscuring mist, grease, ... ) and all the arcane items (you may still need a skill check with a few)...
