Breachill's population density is close to that of New York City?

Very approximately, I measured Breachill's width as ~1,040 feet, and its length as ~1,400 feet. The town gates are an incredible ~100 feet wide.

That gives the town an area of ~1,456,000‬ square feet, or ~0.05222681359 square miles.

Given the town's population of 1,300, that gives us a population density of ~‭24,891.42857164302‬ per square mile.

For reference, New York City has a population of 26,403 people per square mile. So either I bungled up my math somewhere along the way, or Breachill has quite a thick population for a little fantasy town.

The population likly takes into consideration farmland surrounding the town, likly for miles in many directions and the people who view themselves as part of the town but don't live in town center

Are there a lot of halflings and gnomes? A small town with small citizens can have a pretty high population density.

I wish I had time in my life to see if the fantasy city in my game had the same population density as New York! (Joking)

Late to the party I know, but one thing to consider when looking at population densities is the availability of transportation. Lacking modern vehicles and infrastructure means you and your family have to live within walking distance of where you work.

Suburbs are a product of the Twentieth Century.

^Yes, but high-rise buildings are also a product of the Twentieth Century (and late Nineteenth in a few places).
