How to select the right spells and feats for my arcanist

Hello everyone.

I'm building a school savant arcanist for the PFS─particularly for Gameday VIII─and I'm a bit stuck with the spells and feats selection.

A bit about my concept: this character is the son of a minor Ustalavic noble house who was sent to Absalom to hone his innate powers. While studying he became fascinated with the Pathfinder Society and decided to train to enter the ranks of the organization.

A bit about the stats: human (Varisian) arcanist (school savant); STR 8, DEX 12, CON 12, INT 18, WIS 13, CHA 14; specialized in the foresight school; enchantment and illusion are prohibited schools.

A bit about what I'm looking for: I need spells and feats that will both be useful and thematic. I'm not looking to minmax this character heavily, what I want is a good character I will enjoy playing in the organized play.

You will lose a lot of defense by prohibiting illusion. Vanish, invisibility, mirror image, etc. will be hard for you. Are you planning to use necromancy much? False life is pretty good, but I don’t find most of that school to be very tempting.

I could swap illusion for necromancy as my second prohibited school, but still my main problem remains: which spells and feats would fit well for such a character?


I’m not sure what you should take as divination. When I played a divination wizard, I went with crafting feats but that’s not an option for you. As a divination arcanist, you are mostly a generalist, so there’s not a clear feat path. If you’re going to be good at initiative, then you might as well go all in. Get improved initiative and an initiative trait.


Since you don't gain exploit I will get 2 extra exploit feat( potent magic: to increase the caster lv or the DC of the spell by 2; and quick study: to change the magic spell slot in time of need like changing a identify spell for a magic missile)
For the spell I suggest: vanish, shield, mage armor, detect secret door, magic missile, color spray, flare burst

You can’t take extra exploit until you have exploits.

You can’t choose item creation feats in PFS.

Arg this is why I don't like pfs let me think, racial human feat fast learner it will give you 1 extra point in hp and in skill per lv or cosmopolitan you get 2 language for free and get 2 skill as class skill which 1 can be perception and the other can be a social like diplomacy


Are you really set on human, because this isn’t a very feat intensive build? Elf is usually nice for casters.

I thought about Cosmopolitan, it suits the concept well enough.
