If there was a d8 dex weapon, everybody would want to use that one, not just monks. Having stances be slightly better is reasonable, I feel since "enter a stance" costs an action at the start of combat whereas you can just walk around with your weapon drawn.
I mean, Dragon Style gives Str Monks a d10 attack that doesn't require 2 hands- no one else gets that.

There is a d8 finesse weapon. The Elven Curveblade. It is, however, a two-handed weapon, and it is certainly not a monk weapon.
That said, I think a three-section-staff or something of the sort as a d8, two-handed, finesse monk weapon is actually a perfectly reasonable weapon in the system as presented. A one-handed one would have distinct balance issues, but two-handed? Should be fine.

To add to that, I think classes that can't take advantage of certain aspects of an Attribute should get some kind of investment reward for the loss.
For instance in the case of a STR based Monk, they can't take advantage of the Armor speed reduction benefits, so having a little extra pizzazz to compensate for the loss would be nice.
This is sort of what Armored combatants get with DEX, in free proficiencies with Armor and such.
