Advice

My group has currently begun playing the reprint of the Crimson throne campaign, as a joke (as well as for awesome points) we choose to approach the campaign with a few extra rules.
1. every player must be lawful good.
2. No stealthy characters.
3. we're encouraged to play vigilantes or have mannerisms of being 'super heroes'.

Recently after a misjudged acrobatics check during a rooftop adventure I lost my current character who was a Centaur vigilant and need to make another.
I've decided on playing a Kobold Cleric and am sticking with the rules above, however I'm having trouble picking a Deity and Domains. Given the nature of the campaign and my role in the group the deity and domains need to be good for teamwork.
Does any one know and suitable choices? Also if there's any archetypes good for a support focused cleric?

So you've decided to play a Lawful Good kobald in the support cleric role. Cool.

Here are Lawful Good deities. You have lots of good choices.

How about an Evangelist Cleric. Evangelist Clerics are, arguably, the best support class in the game. You lose one domain in exchange for Inspire Courage, as a Bard of the same level.

One excellent support domain is Feather, which gives you both Flight and (with feat Boon Companion) a full animal companion. Perhaps only do this if no one else in your party will have an Animal Companion. There are many other good domains.

As a small, weak kobald you probably don't want to be any sort of melee cleric, and almost certainly not an offensive beast. With that in mind (this guide is not valid for some specialist types of cleric, which you are not) here is a Cleric Domain Guide.

Finally, consider your role on the team[The Forge of Combat, where Pathfinder meets Sun Tzu]. Your role may be influenced by the other PCs. For example, wise clerics prepare Summon Monster spells for those situations when more Battlefield Control is needed.

I always wondered why people have to play special snowflake characters. Can you tell me why you thought it was a good idea to play a character of a race that has no strong presence in the location they'll be playing in? (Less than 1% of the population of Korvosa is a kobold or centaur.)
I'd really like to know, as I have no understanding of this phenomenon.

The player's guide to CotCT says all core religions have clerics in Korvosa. The deities with the most followers are Abadar, Pharasma, Sarenrae, Shelyn and Asmodeus. Seventeen of the twenty core deities are represented in the Pantheon of many, the exceptions being Gorum, Lamashtu and Rovagug.

Torag is lawful good, and a god of mining so that might be an odd fit as he's also a dwarven deity. Apsu is the lawful good god of dragons so that would also be a good fit.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'll endorse Magda Luckbender's recommendation above, and the David's mention of Apsu. Apsu gets you Travel Domain, which is one of the best. Take the Evangelist archetype (giving up the second domain) and your kobold will be hissing and growling the party to success.

The simple fact that there are centaurs present in Korvosa at all is significant; I've had players want to play one in Rise of the Runelords, at which point I ask them to justify why they're ~360 miles west of their species's closest recorded position in a country where they are technically refugees, not to mention nonchalantly attending a local festival.

Supporting lore or no, The GM allowing it is another matter; centaurs are incredibly powerful statwise, especially in terms of strength. It's not unreasonable to shoot down a would-be centaur player even if they start in a city full of them.

As for special snowflakes at all, how many elf4life players have you met? The snowflake is as the snowflake does; if they've got a good backstory and can roleplay without hogging the spotlight too hard, there's nothing wrong characterwise with being an atypical race.

The David. I think you’re confusing yourself.

This is clearly a slightly goofy campaign.

Goofy character choices is part of the light-hearted fun of a goofy campaign. It’s something you can play for laughs!

As for deity choices: Shelyn is a choice which will pay off hugely in RP later in the campaign.

The David, the choice of race in my group is normally chosen based on two things the first being if we've played it before as a long standing rule is you must play or try to play every race once. The second being we intentionally choose minorities a lot of the time to make the game more difficult and interesting. Plus this is our silly campaign we've another campaign for 'serious' characters.

Thank you all for the help.

Shelyn and Apsu sound like perfect choices to me now that I've read up on them. I will have to think carefully about which to choose as both present some very tempting role play aspects.

The Evangelist sounds like a good archetype since it allows be to stay away from the front and let the heavy hitters do their thing but still help. However I was wondering about the Sermonic Performance given how it's worded does it count towards bardic performance related feats like spell song?
