I know we don't even have a release yet, but after realizing just how prevalent this issue is in 1E I wanted to make sure it was something we might get codified into the designer rules you guys use.
Assign new weapons a weapon group before they can make it into any rule book.

There are still a few weapons out there in 1E from as far back as Ultimate Intrigue that don't get any bonuses or count as a group for feats with out GM adjudication. Just a thought.


In the playtest document all of the weapons have a listed weapon group. That’s not to say that this couldn’t happen in the future but it isn’t a problem yet.


That's what I mean though. PF1 was fine on release but some weapons took a while to get assigned to a group officially. it would be better to just have that as a requirement for writing up a new weapon.


I think it will actually be much more likely to be done correctly in PF2, because weapon group matters for more than just a couple of specific class features now. Pretty much every martial gets proficiency with a single group of weapons, and any character can get access to critical effects that are determined by weapon group. So with weapon group coming into play FAR more often than in PF1 I think it's more likely it will not be neglected as it would be a much more serious ball-drop now.


On the "weapon statistics" chart, "Group" is the sixth column, so leaving that one blank is about as likely as leaving the name, price, damage, bulk, or handedness field blank.

Like, this is where we say how much damage weapons do, so I consider this a solved issue.
