Ki, Feat trees and Future proofing

The Ki-strike monk feat is required by all the other ki-powers. It seems like this breaks the idea that feat trees should only exist for feats that build on the previous feat. I think it would be better if those down-stream powers only required a ki-pool. That way we could add alternative entry points for ki users.

That being said, all the ki powers already increase your ki pool, why not just ditch the requirement all together? That way Ki-strike will be an option if you want a slightly larger ki pool (Adding Wis instead of a flat +2.)

That seems like good thinking to me.

Hmmm, yeah maybe. I kind of got the impression that wasn't the way they wanted to go about things, the first SP ability you take is supposed to grant the Attribute based pool. I do like the idea of not requiring Ki Strike to get abilities that are only related insofar as they use Ki though.

In General I think the Monk's selection of class feats is a bit lacking. Wasn't impressed by the options to build a non-ki Monk.

It really seems like given how Paladins get Lay on Hands for free as part of having a spell point pool, there's no need to make Ki Strike a feat- just give it to everyone for free- it's not as good as lay on hands.

Even if someone is not playing an esoteric wise monk that teleports around or shoots waves of energy, *Ki Strike* is not really out of character. I mean, the basic concept of "shout when you attack" exists in a lot of IRL martial arts. Let the option for "do I want to invest in Ki or not" be the other powers.

Since Ki Strike is a thing you will almost never want to use once you have a 2nd ki power.

They said in the monk blog or in the comments on that blog that there would be more ways to get access to ki powers when the actual book comes out but only 1 in the playtest.

I like this. Gives the monk a reason to care about Wis. I realize that the ki strike is probably a worthwhile power (+1 is worth about +2 in PF1) but it feels so lame <.<
