Can a Lion Companion Wear a Ring of Protection?

Rules Questions

A player of mine has asked if this was possible. His lion is medium sized, although at some point it will grow to large and I'm not sure if that makes a difference in the answer. This type of ring doesn't require any verbal components to activate so can they slip it on a paw finger and gain the benefit? I couldn't find any rules on this in the SRD.

Quadruped (claws/paws) allowed magic gear Armor, belt (saddle), chest, eyes, head, headband, neck, shoulders, wrist they have no ring slot so the answer is no.

Animal companion gave animals slots based on their type.

Lion doesn't get rings.

However extra item slot is a feat.magic rings resize. That isn't the issue.

The lion could wear a hand of glory with the ring of protection on it, but the lion wouldn't be able to activate the hands abilities.
