Can I run a module for 3 players if there is no pregen in tier?

Running Emerald Spire for 3 players(my wife and 2 kids), so been running a pregen for the 4th. We are getting to the point where there is no pregen in range, the next floor is levels 8-10. Can I run with the 7th level pregen even though it will be out of subtier or do I need to route them to something else?

Well, are you running them in 'PFS' mode or 'Campaign' mode?

Emerald Spire doesn't have a "Campaign Mode".

Wow, I never noticed that before. You are right.

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

You need to find a 4th player.

This is a problem my own group faced. We started with 5, lost one after they were swallowed by an eel, and lost another several levels later.

It can be tough taking the same group all the way through.

A character in tier, which might be almost as much of a problem in some circumstances.

Though having a player swallowed by an eel would be a dramatic turn of events.

If that's a problem you're facing, perhaps you should consider a change of venue.

Been following this for my own needs. So, CigarPete's game & my own game would need to find a fourth player? I have seen threads about leaving the pregen at the entrance for "guarding purposes" if nobody wants to take control of the pregen -even if the pregen is out of tier anyway?

All PCs, including the theoretically GM-controlled pregen, have to be in-tier. If there is no pregen in-tier for a module, that unfortunately means that there's no pregen that is legal for that module, in which case there is no avoiding the need for an actual fourth player.

Hmm. Ok. How about this:

I have a PC of every level from 1-15.

I've already played and GMed Emerald Spire.

I will bring one of my in-tier characters to your game.

I will simply play for no credit, in order to make a legal table.

My character will just sit outside and make sure no eels eat anyone.

Email me the no-credit Chronicle when you're done.

So, you gonna set up a "dial-up-a-PC" system for people trying to run through modules that are out of tier of the Pregens?

That would be an interesting idea to see other players contribute to, especially players who've got retired characters and have also already played in a module already.
problem becomes- if that pc dies in the module, are they actually dead completely- or is it up to the party to revive the fallen loaner-PC?

That's the elegance of Nefreet's solution!

They're 'outside of the dungeon' 'watching for eels'.

Which means they can Explore, Report, Cooperate to report back to the rest of the Grand Lodge if there's need for body retrieval or whatnot.

BRILLIANT!

Who knows? They might be ectoplasmic eels from the great beyond bringing word of the greatness of Thanos.

The eels have always been here.

As long as they don't have a 'hovercraft' they should be ok?

How long will it take you to get to downtown Denver? Mind you, the Denver Airport is almost in Kansas. No joke.

There are many ways to remain in contact these days...

...recalls the insanity of a 'Disney CarCon' and being the player on the phone at home playing along with a 'blank map' of 'Godsmouth Heresy' on r20, uncovering fog of war as rooms were explored...

Disney CarCon?

Yeah, someone wanted to run Godsmouth Heresy on the ride to Disney, and they needed a healer so I pre-gen'd Kyra. We'd stop when they took 'rest stops' and when they lost cel reception.

It was a Very Interesting Experience! ((Fun, too!))

I approve of this. As the GM of Disney CarCon, I don't see it being that much different.
