Okay – wave one is now closed and I have spun the random number generator and contacted the winners of the 20 lots. A couple of notes:
There was considerable interest in this wave (63 people put in a request, most of them listing three lots). Given there were only 20 packets, that means there’s going to be 20 happy people and 43 not-so-happy. I am sorry for those who threw their hats in the ring and didn’t get anything – I’m afraid that’s just the luck of the draw (I kind of expect this to be the most popular, so don’t give up if there are things in later waves that catch your eye). In the interests of transparency:
- I didn’t use any discretion – for each lot I tallied up the number of people interested, got excel to spit out a random number from 1 to that many and then counted down the list.
- The only exception to the above was someone who was lucky enough to win twice – I contacted them and they were happy to just take one lot and throw the other back in for a second spin (so thank you to them – that meant there was one other winner).
- For those interested in the spread (I’m not too keen on making this sort of information available pre-draw as I don’t want to get into people changing their interests based on their changing odds – my private messages have already been a little manic)
- There were only two lots with only one person interested – quirky taste clearly helps some of the time.
- Most lots had less than six people put their names down (so your odds weren’t too shabby in general)
- There were around ten people interested in lots 4, 13 and 12
- I had nearly thirty people express interest in lot 10 – so congratulations to that person
If you were unsuccessful, I’m not going to send you a PM about it – this is notification that the lottery has finished and the winners have been notified. If there’s no PM from me, you were unsuccessful. :(
If you were a winner you should have received a Private Message confirming that. If you could reply with the address you’d like it shipped too ASAP, I’ll get onto those over the weekend. I’ll resend them in a week’s time if I haven’t heard but if you don’t reply by Sunday 15th I’ll reallocate your lot so please let me know as soon as you can.

Please hold off on expressing interest for future waves at this point. I think it will be useful if my PMs remain uncluttered so I can quickly find addresses. I’ll post here when Wave Two (mainly other game systems) is open.
I won’t keep future waves open for as long as this one – almost all the messages came in during the first couple of days, so the rest of the time was mainly wasted. As such – if you’re hanging out for Wave Five or something, best to keep an eye on this thread as it’s likely I’ll get through all of these a little quicker than I had expected.

<compulsively checks PMs, sees nothing>
Congratulations to all 20 winners! Looking at those numbers of folks interested in the super popular items (yep, I am one of ~30 and ~10), and then back at the items included, I (and I'm sure many others) am not surprised at how popular those choices were.
Looking forward to the other waves!

You really don't need to worry about shipping costs. Some people have offered some reimbursement but it really isn't necessary.
If you want to contribute something, keep an eye out for worthy causes or worthy people in coming months and increase your donation to them or something.
Having said that, bear the following in mind:

I'm marking everything as a gift and I had assumed that meant there was no risk of customs duties (I still have to nominate a price). I'm afraid I'm not comfortable lying on forms - I have a longstanding rule on that that's pretty close to universal.
I'm valuing them as second-hand books in Australian Dollars, but I asked at the post office and it looks like the US do sometimes levy customs on gifts over $25 (!)
Sorry I didn't think to mention this earlier, but hopefully any customs duties won't be too onerous. :/
(I believe you can just refuse them and they'll be returned after some period of time if taxes are exorbitant).

Are you going to announce the winners Steve or should we just do a blind taste test?
This is the announcement post.
I figure whether anyone participated or won is a matter for them, I won't be making any of that information public.
Wave One was always going to be the most popular, I figured (plus maybe Wave Five). It was a bit disappointing that two people missed out for every winner, but such is life.
If you didn't get anything and have some interest in waves two through five, do keep an eye on this thread. I've got addresses back for all but five of the wave one winners. Soon as they're in and the packages are out the door, I'll invite people to express interest in the second wave.
Wave Two will only stay open for a week, I think. The first wave was a flurry of applicants then mostly silence. Probably everyone who wants to participate knows about it now, so not much point in dragging it on too long.

I will resend them in a week if I haven’t heard back. (I also sent confirmations when people expressed interest, so hopefully nobody has technical issues or they would know by now..).
Yes, though. It would. :/
Good plan! (Because, as much as I would like it if someone that had won one of the lots I put my name in didn't respond and my name was drawn instead, that would still be really unfortunate for the person that originally got it.)

Wave Two Opening - only one week this time
Okay, I'm not quite done with the first wave, but I think I can press on with the second.
The details are in the third post of this thread, linked here.
If you're interested in any of those lots, please send me a PM with the title: "Wave Two - Lots x, y, z"
You can express interest in up to three lots - it doesn't matter if you won something in the first wave. If more than one person wants one I'll randomly pick a winner.
I'll keep wave two open until Sunday 15th July, so please let me know as soon as possible if there's anything you're interested in.

Wave two is drawing to a close. There has been less interest than in Wave One, but it's also a smaller number of lots. Unfortunately, that means there's still going to be more who miss out than who are successful.
There's a couple of Wave One winners who haven't contacted me with their addresses despite multiple Private Messages. They appear to be people who haven't posted since 2010 or so - I'm guessing they may be friends of regular posters who popped in to express interest and then haven't logged on again.
If you know anyone in your group who may have done that, would you please ask them to check in and see if there's a few PMs from me? I don't really want to move on to the next in the list, but I'm also not planning on keeping their packages around forever.

Steve,
If they don't pick up their packages within a certain amount of time does that mean they lose out?
I haven’t really decided, but I’m thinking so. I expect I’ll redraw from the original applicants.
Having said that, I’m really hoping they check back in the next couple of weeks (it seems like an odd thing to sign up for and then not see if you’d won!)

Received my package, thank you again, person made of awesome!
For what it's worth, no customs duties were required (U.S.)
And bonus, imported newspaper wrapping is interesting.
Really glad you didn't have a customs issue. Thanks for letting me know.
If anyone else does have issues with customs and it might be useful for me to confirm with the US that it's a gift or something, do let me know (also make sure they discount it - I had to quote the price in AUD not USD).

Okay, Wave Two is now closed and I’ve spun the excel wheel. I have contacted the winners via Private Message, so if you don’t have a little red circle up at the top of the page, I’m afraid you were unsuccessful this time around. Do please keep an eye out for future waves (they aren’t open yet, but I’ll post here when they are).
Statistics for the interested:
I had forty four applicants for thirteen lots, so again more than two people missed out for every successful winner. :(
This time around, quite a few people expressed interest in only a single lot.
Most lots had around three or four people interested.
Nobody won two lots this time around.
There were four notably popular lots (as in more than ten people expressed interest):
Lot Two – Starfinder
Lot Six – D&D Books
Lot Eight – a couple of pawn sets
Lot Thirteen – 5E Midgard Stuff
There were a couple of winners from wave one who also won in wave two. I appreciate there’s maybe an equity question there, but I set it up that way because I didn’t want to force people to pick which wave was most important to them – part of this is to ensure everything gets a new home plus I figured it would suck to hold off until Wave Five and then miss out….

I’m hoping to get addresses in pretty quick. I expect I’ll open Wave Three in a week’s time – please hold off on expressing interest in that wave until then.
Also a reminder – if you participated in Wave One and haven’t checked your PMs for a while, there’s still a couple of winners who haven’t provided their addresses.

Wave Three Opening - Closing Wednesday 25th July
Everyone was super fast in getting me their addresses for wave two so thanks for that. Parcels are on the way and if you won something in wave two you should have got a PM with tracking information.
The lots in wave three are set out in the fourth post of this thread.
Here is a link, for convenience.
Anyone can express interest in up to three lots - please send me a private message with the title "Wave Three - Lots x, y ,z" (it's best to put them in the title, rather than the body of the message as it makes it quicker for me to doublecheck people's selections without having to open and close messages.
I'll accept expressions of interest up until Wednesday 25th July - once everyone's wishes are in, I'll tally up and randomly choose a winner for those lots with more than one person interested.
Any questions, please let me know.
Good luck (especially to those who have put in for each wave and haven't yet won something. I'm not fiddling the numbers but I am rooting for you!)
