Which was your item, Sliverik?
As for the "Almost In," I don't think we'll release that list for a few days (if at all), or discuss why certain items didn't make it. I would like the focus to remain on the Top 16 for the moment. (I will at a certain point offer feedback for those who didn't make it, but probably not until after this weekend at the earliest.)

I created the ghostly bracers.
When reading your comments, I realised I mistakenly used "quick action" instead of "swift action", but that's the kind of mistakes you do when you don't play in english and have to translate everything!
And I fully understand about your decision, 16 items is already a lot to talk about!
(I've just seen there is a subject to discuss about the results... I missed it, sorry!)

Well, this is unexpected. I did not expect that I'd actually make it through to the second round. I figured I was out of the running when I found the formatting template after submitting.
To my colleagues in the top 16, congratulations on the first round, and I look forward to seeing what we all come up with for round two.

Congratulations, to the community members who made it into the Top 16!
And congratulations to everyone who entered. It is *hard* to do that, to put yourself, something you made, in front of a bunch of nitpicky judges. Even if you didn't make it, be sure to give yourself credit for that--and go forward and plan for the next thing coming.
It was an honor to read through all of your entries. Whether sheer perfection or... needing a little work... it's great to see what creative gamer minds come up with when challenged.

I would say the intent is in the following paragraph:
Your write-up can describe a village, wilderness area, dungeon or other appropriate area where you expect to set an adventure should you win the contest. It can describe background about the location presented, and what might be going on there now. If the area is a settlement it does NOT need to include a settlement stat block, though it can (but remember, your goal is to provide a place for an adventure, not a gazetteer).
You're pitching the location of an adventure, one you think people would want to play in. If you think setting DCs would best do that, go for it; if you think more general descriptions would be the best way to handle it, that's what you should do.

Hey everyone, I wanted a grid with slightly lighter lines, so I went here. I used Fine weight, .35" square size, 24 x 30 number of squares, and Light Grey grid color. It's the same grid, just a little lighter.

Round 2 is now over for the contestants in the Designfinder Contest, and the judges have retired to the 9th layer to deliberate!
The 15 entries (we had an unfortunate DQ) will be revealed, along with the judges comments, comments on the 26th, after which you'll be able to vote on your favorites to go through to round 3! - Once revealed, please feel free to comment and discuss the various entries, UNLESS you're one of the contestants. In that case, you should refrain as it could get you disqualified.
And may I say that some of the entries we've received were really good, and were places I'd want to explore with my own gaming group.

While we wait, I just wanted to mention that if you submitted a magic item and didn't make the top 16, send me a PM if you'd like my notes on your item. Depending how many people take me up on this, it might take me a while, but I will get them to you!
And I can't wait to see some awesome locations!

Where can we look at the map entries? All I can find on the designfinder site is the names of the maps. Also the voting appears to be broken as well.
Voting goes live at 2 PM EDT (so, roughly 2.5 hours from this post). It looks like you're seeing things "in progress" as the site gets set up for voting. Sorry for the inconvenience!

And for anyone following along at home, Round 2 Voting is now ready. Each of our contestants has put in their (hopefully :P ) best efforts, and it's now ready for you to see it too!
Please go HERE! and you'll be able to cast YOUR vote on your favorite location. Voting closes on the 2nd of July, and we reveal the 8 participants who go on to round 3 on the 3rd!
Good luck everyone! :)

Just making sure the voting is working correctly. I voted yesterday, and went to look at some comments this morning and it appeared as if i hadn't voted, and it allowed me to vote again as i wasn't sure if yesterdays votes were recorded. After refreshing the page, it looks like I could vote yet again (i didnt try). So this could be something to look into, or you can just ignore me too if everything is running smooth from your end.

Which are your favorites? We (and I'm sure the contestants) would love to hear from people about their work.
I already voted, but was particularly fond of Chris Daily's Sporewood and Nathan Ross's Wealwood Manor. Both creepy, interesting locations with lots of adventure potential.

Hmm. The poll says it's only allowing 8 votes per all time, but we'll look into this. Thanks for the head's up.

Oh well to be honest I only voted for 3 entries(both times) so maybe its my issue for not using all the votes available?

To all competitors: It's been pointed out on the OGN forums that there was some confusion about the Round 3 rules and what location the villain had to be appropriate for.
We had originally debated doing an RPG Superstar-style "twist" in which the villain had to be from another competitor's location, but we later decided NOT to do that. An old fragment from that plan remained in the rules, but I've now removed that. Your villain may be from your location or another competitor's location.

I just did my voting, and I have to say it has been a very nice read! Some of the locations gave me adventure ideas immediately, and that is what I valued the most when deciding on my favourites.
I don't always agree with what the judges said, but they don't always agree with each other, so I don't feel too bad about it!
Solid job everyone, I'll go now and prepare a villain... in case I'm part of the new champions. Again I have many ideas, it's going to be hard to choose.

Just to follow up on this, only final votes are being counted (so the one person who keeps repeatedly voting for one entry is just wasting his/her time as it's tallying all of one vote total).
We've added language to clarify that to the voting page.

And the results are now in for Round 2 of the Designfinder 2018 Contest!
Please head on over to see if your favorite won, and feel free to discuss them on our forums (links to all are in the comments).
Also, we're now opening up for the Round 2 discussion threads and the Critique My Item threads for those who have an interesting in talking about what's happened, and what can be done in the future. :)
A hearty well done to all those who made it this far, and a good luck to those who now move on to round 3!

Congratulations everyone! That's where I drop out, but it was a nice experience!
I can say it now: I fully designed my location (Lawrence's Lists) as a side-quest location because I didn't understand that it should suffice on its own for a whole adventure.
Well, I'll be sure to participate again if Designfinder 2 happens!
(I'll stay around of course... at least to vote for the next rounds, and steal the villains for my campaign...)

Congratulations to those advancing! An excellent effort by all of my colleagues in the top 16. While I may be out of the running, this is much farther than I expected to get in the first place. For a complete amateur, I think I made a decent showing.
Like Sliverik, I can now say that I had no idea what what being expected from the submissions. Perhaps I simply missed them while searching, but I was unable to find any kind of examples of what was expected in the write-up. After seeing the submissions for the round, I can now say that I would have focused the write-up less on the location itself, and more on the situation in the city that acts as the main adventure draw.
While I'm disappointed that I won't get to make 'The Janitor' for this round, (there's a reason his office was so large,) I'll be watching with interest. I'd never considered freelancing before this contest, but making this far is making me reconsider. It's clear that if I do pursue this any further, though, I have some serious learning to do, and I trust that both the submissions and comments to come will be both interesting and useful.

It's definitely tough when you don't have examples to follow, but it was a seemingly broad challenge for a couple reasons. As the final prize is to create an adventure, we wanted to see what kind of fun locations people could come up with, but also a map that would be fun for an encounter. I think if we do the challenge next year, it'll be a bit easier for contestants to see what's expected of them.

I think that's fantastic; heck, I'll go so far as to say this comment makes me feel like this contest has been a success regardless of what else happens. I remember I had given some idle thought to contributing to Dungeon and/or Dragon back in the day, but never knew how/what to do since I got into Superstar, which got me interested in finally doing it. There is a ton to learn, but also a lot of people who really enjoy helping others, not to mention advice and suggestions out there on the Web. Please feel free to drop me a line if I can offer more advice/help.
