Burning wheel

Recruitment

it began when old Mags. When Thomas went up to bring her food, and she wasn't there. Didn't take long to find her... or what was left, at any rate. A sad thing, but it had been a bad winter. A wolf on the outskirts of the village, desperate enough to go after an old lady.

but less than a week later, Simon Baker disappeared, after being sent for firewood in the wee hours of the morning. that was a shock. for wolves to go after humans twice in a week, the agreement was that a culling was required, there were too many wolves, and not enough prey. Adam and Hugh strung their bows, took poisons from the herbalist, and went to it.

But, the Ward family was when you all knew. all of the family, save Gelbert. attacked in their home, the door not forced, no windows broken, and what Gelbert saw, a wolf the size of a bear, eyes alive with malice. No beast, but a monster, born of dark magic. A werewolf stalks the village

That's the scenario. The system is Burning wheel.

I'll get more into character creation once we have a group of players, but the general guide I'll be using is: 4 players, $ life paths, no orcs, 0-1 magic users. Happy to answer questions!

Re-reading rules while I burn up some $ lifepath characters. Here's where my head is at:

First Burn:
Lopaun was a serving wench at her father's inn at the edge of the forest when a party of 'adventurers' burned it down.

It was the middle of winter.

Three years later, she arrived at the village, carrying her father's crossbow, and tailed by a fox.

(Extremely Bitter, Insomniac, Scavenger, Taste for Man Flesh?)

Can we do greyshade stats?

I meant 4. Shift key is weird. Which life paths would that be?

That's currently Village-born, Serving Wench (bitter), Crossbowman. (I'm on my phone, and $ is under 3 on my keyboard.)

Squeezing in Vagrant for that concept, but I might change everything once some other ideas bump around.

I'm thinking someone socially expendable who you'd send out to slay a beast, but inclined to avoid direct confrontation.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Definitely interested in playing as long as it is Eastern Time in the evening or Saturdays. Would be interested in playing an Elf.

Do we have a Discord group for this or anything?

Okay... May be a misunderstanding, maybe I should edit the reddit post. this is Play by Post.

You're still super welcome to play, and an elf is cool so long as they fit into the setting

Update after reading through Range and Cover:

life paths: Village-Born, Serving Wench, Poacher, Archer
Age: 23

Traits: Extremely Bitter, Taste for Man-Flesh, Cold-Blooded, Alert

Next I'm gonna check out the rat-people...

Umm... I'd kinda prefer it if we stuck to the core rules for my first outing as gm

Roger!

My first time putting wheels to the road as well, but I've watched a ton on twitch and YouTube.

Gonna throw something up on the BW Subreddit. if you know another place, or someone else who would be into this, feel free to reach out

The general consensus on the sub is: while interested, we aren't interested on these forumns, but we do have this little niche site that BW exists on

sorry dude.

That's okay. Someday, Hot Circle! Somdayyyy~

Yeah, looks like I'm down to plan C, Slipping adderal into the BHB's snacks and then having them do Char Burning

Hey All,

I am definitely interested in playing. How big of a village are we talking? Would you be looking for more village or city backgrounds? Just trying to get a general idea of what type of chars would be interested, ofcourse what everyone else is playing is a huge influence as well though.

I would be interested i n playing some burning wheel

Um... well, maybe we will have it. We're using the gold book, 4 LP's. what type of character do you guys want to play?

also, the game begins in a village, so born in a village then branching into city paths for a while (guy who sought his fortune in the big city) or be born in the city, and move to a village lifepath... or just give me a moderately plausible reason you're in a village at the edge of the kingdom (what people out in the sticks mean when they say out in the sticks) I'll give you a lot of leeway here

I was thinking if I stay small time just playing a young tavern wrench. If I decide to go bigger I had an idea of a lowly prostitute (maybe even haram slave?) turned spy type character.

The real question though is whats the situation? You mentioned a werewolf, but is there anything deeper than that? What are our beliefs supposed to be about. Hard to say for sure what I want to play before we find out what the theme is we are exploring.
