New Set-Up Sucks

Website Feedback

OK, I'm not a frequent poster to this site, but I do play the game! Every once in a while I come here to check out the Boards as well as the Blogs!

Now, it seems the set-up has changed and I cant find anything, including my favorite part; the Blogs! Frustrating and I wonder why such things are done? I currently play Pathfinder and see a 2nd Edition is coming out, but with this nuisance as well as other questions about the change I feel somewhat dismayed. I get worried that Paizo has gone down a "bad" path and are not the ones that took us in a great direction when they adapted the 3.0/3,5 ruleset of D&D. Maybe I'm wrong and things will be fine, but as of now I'm not loving things all around.

My plan was to always be a Paizo gamer/Pathfinder player my entire life! I hope this holds true!

Yes, unfortunately, this happened. (Also wanted to link another thread about this, but the Search function seems to have gotten a bit flaky now as well.)

The new layout certainly has its issues, and in this case the problem is that the navbar doesn't have consistent behavior. The contents and navigation are the same, but the behavior changes when you leave the home page.

Blogs are in "Community -> Paizo Blog". On the home page, it's a popup menu. Everywhere else, it's a multi-level navbar with inconsistent formatting.

It is a monster trying to find stuff on the new website layout.

And I'm here pretty much every day, have been since '06. I was going to start a 'concerned' Thread myself when I got around to it.

Can't find the Forums sometimes, can't find the store, can't find the blogs. Yucky. I was going to chalk it off to my lack of fluency in using this fancy-thinking-box as well as my being stuck in the old-layout mindset. But a couple months in and I still can't find stuff when I'm looking for it. Add this new tiny-text-box where I only have line-of-sight to a few sentences when I'm typing a post, and I really am unsatisfied with the new layout.

I'm really interested to see others' opinions on this Thread to learn whether I'm in the minority or if many of us are having problems navigating -- heck, even using -- the new layout. Especially compared to those who love it.

This is the link that takes you to the forums, if you want to favourite it!

I hope that helps. :)

I mostly just stopped reading the forums and site unless I'm looking for updates on subscriptions in the customer service section. Then I'll possibly poke through the forums for any updated thread that may seem interesting.
Navigation isn't too much of an issue for me - the forum font and sizing on a tablet hurts my eyes after a bit so I don't stick around much. It's better on a computer I admit.

I am less dismayed by the existence of the new design than that very little has changed since it was first rolled out. The devs have had quite a bit of feedback at this point, but I don't see problems getting fixed.

The site still doesn't seem to have a direct link to this. I have to go to Community:Paizo and then click on Forums in the breadcrumb below the navbar.

And while we're at it, this is supposed to be bigger -- but instead it is smaller.

This is supposed to be smaller -- it is, but just barely smaller than the text that was supposed to be bigger but isn't.

And the button next to "How to format your text" below the message entry text box doesn't work any more.

The old layout had easy access to let us know what topics were recently posted in. I can't find that same feature on the new one. Was it removed?

The easy access has been removed. The best approximation is going to Community:Paizo and then clicking on Forums in the breadcrumb trail below the navbar, and use your web browsers Find function to search for "new)". This doesn't work for everything, because for some weird reason some subforums don't get expanded (like for instance, the AP-specific subforums for all but the most recent APs) -- in that case, you have to click on the subforums of interest and repeat that search within there.

The sidebar was one of the things that disappeared.

They have plans to replace it functionally, I believe - although my understanding is that the implementation won't be exactly the same.

If I go here

I can see all the new posts in all the forums that I'm following.

You can use the "expand/flatten" , "focus/defocus", and "show hidden" buttons at the top of the page to change how you view the forums.

If you can't see the expand/flatten button click the "defocus" button to bring them into view.

They show the newest posts at top.

You can change which forums show up on that page.

To do so be sure you're on the page that shows the "Flatten" button.

For every forum name, there's a small triangle to the left.

If the triangle points to the right, that forum is hidden on the main page.

If the triangle points down, you can see the subforums for that forum.
Again, if the triangle next to the subforum name points right, then you can't see threads in that subforum on the main page.
If the triangle points down, you can see them.

Then, within each sub forum, you can hide/reveal individual threads by clicking the 'null' symbol that is just to the right of the "last post" info.

Finally, if you want to see all the new posts at once, click the "flatten" button at the top of that page. That merges all the visible forums into a single page of new posts.

Nice, but some of the triangles don't work (like for instance, the one on the Reign of Winter subforum) -- clicking one causes most of the page to reload, but then it doesn't expand the subforum.

Worked for me. I'm on FF 59.0.2

Same version of Firefox I am on. I am on a Mac, so not sure if that makes a difference.

I wonder if it is some JavaScript bug. I just came from the discussion of the Cleric blog post, where I created a new post that happened to be #651, and I could see that the number of the last post in the thread had incremented, but I could not see my own post until I enabled some extra JavaScripts that paizo.com never used to require. These also now seem to be need to see more than the 1st 2 posts of the discussion of a product announcement. But after enabling these, I tried expanding the arrow for the Reign of Winter sub-forum, and it still doesn't do anything. (I can still see the Reign of Winter sub-forum if I click on it to actually go in there.)

By the way, I just realized that this thread is in General Discussion, whereas it should be in Website Feedback . . . .

Edit: Probably best to redirect into this thread.
