Yes it’s a scorpion whip, which damages normally. I just don’t have bludgeoning weapons for skeletons.
First time I try an exotic weapon like whip. I am normally a greatsword or greataxe user, but trying something different this time.
I will just trip the skeletons and let ‘Bruenor’ crush them when they are down ;-)

Side note related to the Blakros Museum: yesterday I played 9-05 Call of the Copper Gate and it offered an insight to why the museum is such a curse laden location. I'll not elaborate further, I've about dipped into spoiler realm enough there for those who dislike spoilers. Just something I found interesting and related to our current predicament. I recommend you jump in on a table of it if you get a chance.
GM Gustavef |
For the record, this combat with the column/statue is mostly how I decided to split tables. Each table has the right abilities to get though it with out to many resources lost. :)
Also I have not looked at 9-05 yet, though I am planning running all the Museum scenarios. There a lot of fun things about the Blakros family and this place.
For those interested the list is:
0-05 -- Mist of Mwangi
1-35 -- Voices in the Void
2-11 -- The Penumbral Accords
3-07 -- Echos of the Overwatched
6-02 -- The Silver Mount Collection
7-09 -- The Blakros Connection
9-05 -- Call of the Copper Gate
The following deal with the Blakros family but not the museum
4-09 -- Blakros Matrimony
5-14 -- Day of the Demon
8-99 -- The Solstice Scar is a special that takes place in the museum as well, but that is a multi-table event.
You will learn the true Joy of the museum

Sounds like fun. Definitely will be trying to jump in on those if I can. I haven't played most of those scenarios.
Tem, the First and Last |
9-05? I'll have to run it for the local group... Well, I might have to see how deadly it is first...
GM Gustavef |
Serious question. Are you sure at low level that they actually break weapons? I ask because I GM'd 9-04 and ran into them. At low tier their weapon break ability was off. Just making sure here, it seems pretty harsh for low tier/level group.
It is still in place. I know what you are talking about in 9-04. I suspect it was in response from this mod. It is less damage than the normal column. It is a difficult combat for a 1-2 group, but will take a little time.
It has been ruled (well agreeded by other messageboards) that natural attacks are not damaged and it has DR and not hardness, which mean elemental attacks that don't require SR checks
Tem, the First and Last |
lol, last two times I ran into Caryatid Columns was Bonekeep and a 5-7 Module. So I had to do a double take. Keep Buffed and Carry On.
Thanks for the knowledge check Vogue, that saved wasting a few spells.
Graktul |
Just for clarity before moving forward and still learning some of this stuff but wouldn't my flail have to take 5+ damage before broken condition?
Course now I have to try to figure out if I want to take a chance with it again would have to roll 11+ to ruin it but was planning on the flail having some slight significance to the character.
GM Gustavef |
It is the special (annoying) ability of the Caryatid Columns. Any damage past hardness gives the weapon the broken condition, regardless of its total hp
GM Gustavef |
Now that encounter is over enough. This encounter is known to be a bit much for low tier. These were "Young Caryatid Columns" So the shatter weapon is only 2d6 instead of the normal 3d6. But still has the DR 5/- (so nothing by-passes it) and Immunity to Magic. In short even with the young template, they are a bit much for tier 1-2.
At Tier 3-4 you face two normal ones.
At Tier 6-7 it is two Advanced Gargoyles. So the Highest tier is actually easier than the lower tiers.
This is just a tedious and frustrating battle. The best solution is hit them as hard as you can in as few attacks as possible.
Tem, the First and Last |
GM Gustavef |
@Tem: You will not get the command word information from a detect magic or identify.
Tem, the First and Last |
GM Gustavef |
I stand corrected. I did not think you got command words with just dectect magic But if you ID the item you do get its command word.
GM Gustavef |
BTW, After this I would suggest never running this for tier 1-2 :) I have run this 3-4 and it was a good challenge, the 6-7 looks interesting as well.
Dark Schnyder |
I see now. The swarm was a delaying tactic made by the author of the adventure to whatever is going on in the other room.

Everyone, I, ah, don't know if you caught it or not but the paladin just got tapped with a wand of infernal healing. There is a sort of bad side of me that has gotten a slight chuckle out of the concept, our pally is smacked down to exactly 0 hp and his teammate wants to do the right thing to help. But it kind of came out as the wrong thing to do to the wrong person.
I'd like to ask of our GM if you would allow a slight retcon of the recent actions, like maybe a free action by the staggered dwarf to decline the wand tap or a melee touch attack or a will save (that one is allowed per the spell)? Infernal healing is kind of a big no-no for paladins, to be imbued with devil blood powered fast healing and show up as with an evil alignment for a while.

Due to an incredibly busy weekend filled with a Christmas celebration, two birthday parties, and many hospital visits, I will be unable to post from December the 16th through till December the 18th. My posting should resume as normal on Tuesday the 19th. Apologies if this slows down the game. Feel free to bot me as needed.
Due to the quick pace of PFS scenarios, and that we're nearing the end, I'll try my best to sneak in a post if I can, but I can't promise anything.
Thanks for understanding, and have a great weekend, guys.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
If she happens to get another round after that she'll be out of holy water and will have to resort to punching it again, hoping that the cracks have weakened it's hardness.
Thanks!

So, having never played a paladin before, I had to look up rules regarding this. From what I found, there is no alignment infraction, he doesn't lose any of his "paly" abilities, and there will be no need of atonement. As such, I decided to play it as he appreciates the gesture, but that it can't happen again. I'm also going to play it that for the next ten rounds, his personalty has changed. Thanks for the ask, Jerry, but we'll pass on the retcon.

This is a pre-typed message I created for this situation to allow me to copy/paste the message to all the games I am taking part in.
I suffer from Chronic Pancreatitis that on average every 6 months turns into Acute Pancreatitis. The Acute version requires me to be hospitalized between 3 to 5 days on average if it is severe enough. Unfortunately, my local hospital has Piazo's website blocked for some reason. So during this time I will not be able to post anything.
I'm posting this message because I can feel the pain that begins the Acute stage and will be going to the ER. If it is not severe enough to require hospitalization then I will make a post as soon as possible to state things are all clear. If that post doesn't happen within 12 hours, then it means I am in the hospital.
If need be, feel free to bot my character during combat or if any skill rolls that would really help the group.
Sorry for any inconvenience this will cause.
Dark Schnyder |
Good news. My pancreatic enzyme count was higher than it should be but not high enough to hospitalize me. So they just prescribed me some oxycodone and sent me home.
GM Gustavef |
Fortunately for all, both tables just finished. You can do some more questions if you want, but I will get Chronicles out in the next day or so. I too am getting busy with holiday distractions.
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Everyone worked together well.
Graktul |
Thanks for running the scenarios Gustavef and will definitely have to make sure I get some more options for swarms after this one.
Bergar Ironhand |
Thanks, GM Gustavef. You definitely made it so I am going to continue PbP. Thanks for running.
And thanks to all my fellow players. You really helped make the game.
Aisha Ramunrah |
@GM Gustavef: thank you for running this chronicle. I had a lot of fun. Also enjoyed playing with a great team! Hope all of you continue on the next chronicle.
Dark Schnyder |
Agreed. It was a fun scenario, even though we had a really bad streak of rolls.
GM Gustavef |
Thanks everyone. I should have the Chronicles ready later today. If any has not done a day job roll and would still like to go a ahead.
Aisha Ramunrah |
Thank you for GM'ing! Had a great time. Not sure I will keep Aisha as a whip specialist. What exactly can I do as part of the Level 1 "rebuild"?

Sorry for being the odd man out and thanks! It was a blast and I'm glad my buddy Will, playing Bergar, got his first taste of PBP with such a great team and a great GM.
