Could a phylactery contain multiple souls?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm thinking about making a theoretical big bad, a lich spirit guide oracle, that made a mythic level phylactery that can contain multiple souls, specifically all of the available shaman spirits and his.

In terms of story, not every shaman soul was happy with this; some were trapped or tricked, while others were willing to go along with it, but for their own ulterior motives. Specifically, a priest of Mammon and Nocticula (each with their own unique way to boost charisma) are in strict opposition to each other. While the main lich is almost always in control, with a trapped soul in tow as council, sometimes they break out to enact their own plans.

Is it simply possible in general?

To the original part, I know of no restriction on occupancy. Several shticks involve multiple 'souls' being trapped in certain magic items, So that's not a biggie.

As for the latter part, no idea. You might want to read up on Intelligent magic items.

just to make sure, I'd make an item with multiple gems on/in it, each housing a different soul.

Ain't no reason why not, from a "GM makes the mechanics that make the plot" perspective.

It probably could, though I came into this thread thinking about a cabal of liches all working together.

Now I want to have them as a villainous group, their phylacteries having been used as pieces of a construct. So if the PCs want to kill them for good, they also have to destroy their evil horcrux Megazord.

Though is the reason because you want the lich to have access to every shaman spirit at once? You could do that. Though if some of the trapped spirits want out, that could make breaking the thing either easier, or more convoluted if the PCs want it done safely.

A related idea: Something that wants to entrap souls managed to get itself into something attractive for use as a phylactery, and thus ensnared a new Lich. With the new power it gained in so doing, it gained the ability to change its appearance so as to be able to repeat the process with a different new Lich. Rinse and repeat -- it's got a pretty good racket going. And none of the Liches were the wiser until it was too late . . . .
