Sorcerer cantrip and level 1 spellist

Advice

Hello friends

I'm building a sorcerer and was looking at all the level 0(cantrips) and level 1 spells. I get to know as a sorcerer 4 level 0 spells and 2 level 1 spells.

Can I get recommendations on these?

For level 0 spells, I'm leaning towards detect magic, Daze, ghost sounds and dancing lights.

Does a sorcerer need to read magic much? Is this useful?

Should I get a dmg dealing spell such as acid? Or for damage just grab a bow the first bunch of levels in game?

For level 1 spells im leaning towards taking color spray and grease for battlefield control. Possibly silent image.

Sleep, magic missile and mage armor were also on my radar but I didn't feel like it helped out the whole team enough.

Thank you gamers!

The 0th level list you've selected looks fine, although since you lack Ray of Frost or Acid Splash you should definitely make sure to carry a light crossbow. Read Magic is useful if there's no one else in the party who can identify scrolls for you, as you'll be the guy using them. If there's someone else who can cast it, don't bother picking it up until later.

Color Spray and Grease is a fine spell combination. Incapacitate and disrupt. Silent Image is also a nice choice, but it's a bit harder to use effectively in combat. The annoying part about this spell is that the high spell DC's typical of a Sorcerer may come back to bite you, since your allies will also have a hard time disbelieving your illusions.

Sleep is another superb spell and a real combat-ender at low levels. Magic Missile is passable. Damage-dealing spells are notoriously inefficient uses of spellcasting power, and unless you're boosting their damage output with feats they should always be treated as secondary options. Mage Armor is a great defensive option, but given your low number of spells known it's a pain to fit in.

Overall, it looks like you're focused in on the right spells.

You NEED read magic. Imagine coming across some mysterious magical runes or an ancient script, which I'm betting is going to be important, and no one can read them.

I usually go with Read magic, Detect Magic, Light, and either Ray of Frost of Acid Splash starting out, adding Disrupt Undead later if starting in an area rumored to have them. 1st lvl spells are a tough choice, though I do find Mage Armor a top pick, then either Burning Hands or Color Spray, the latter I found rather useful against mounted bandits as it can knock out horses. Expeditious Retreat can work in place of Mage Armor by giving you a bit of extra movement to throw spells in.
