Stats for Red Skinned Humans

Rules Questions

Akiton's Red Humans seem like a cool human plus race. Any stats for them in Pathfinder or do we just treat them as humans with a different skin color?

I could definitely see Pathfinder justifying giving them tweaked stats. But given Starfinder is set thousands of years in the future where contact between Akiton and the rest of the star system has been much greater I would expect enough intermarrying and migration has simply assimilated these humans into the greater human gene pool.

I'd say since they call them Humans instead of Humanoids that you would just use Human stats.

Distant Worlds says they are virtually identical to humans and even biologically compatible, making them most likely just a weird ethnicity of human.

If you want to make them a little different, perhaps you could replace their bonus feat (for all the setting's xenopolitanism, "pure" Akitonian Humans are a bit isolated and staid) with a +4 bonus to saving throws versus radiation (protection they've evolved for life under a thinner atmosphere).

Honestly by the sound of it, I should just treat them like regular humans with crazy skin and slightly more "Conan in Space" social traditions.

and by the looks of things, they may well be the majority of humans in the Pact Worlds.

So yup, regular humans.

And it's not "Conan in Space" - red-skinned martians are straight out of Edgar Rice Burroughs' other (of several) smashing successes - the John Carter of Mars books, which begin with the classic "A Princess of Mars" and was adapted into a highly under-rated film by Disney several years back.

In those books, the red-skinned humans are extremely civilized.

Pleasantly surprised this isn't a super racist thread

If you wanted to make them match the Edgar Rice Burroughs source material, you would have them hatch from eggs, grow up slightly faster than standard humans, and live as long as elves do. Oh -- and eliminate clothing from their starting equipment.

But at this point I would not introduce any other differences until they are revealed in the Pact Worlds hardcover in March (a rumored mention at Gen Con).

well... that's if you wanted to go full Barsoomian. and they do have those harnesses - so they could get armor upgrades but no armor benefits.

oh, and they'd all have exotic poisons and be unable to use non-melee weapons on melee opponents. and they'd be psychic.

John Carter of Mars is Canon in the Starfinder universe so I'd say that the red humans are the Skum to the red martian's Deep Ones.

I actually did make an akatonian human over on the advice thread. I just used the standard human race rules. Messed up a bit on the stats because I don't know what I'm doing, but I think it works otherwise.

I like the idea of playing an Akatonian human. Lets you play a guy with alien flair but still get the nice human benifit of extra feat+skill/level.

I suspect when the equivalent Advanced Race Guide (or even APG) comes out there will be Alternate Racial traits. So there could be a different trait set for Akatonian Humans

In the Pathfinder comics the iconic heroes travel to the Worldscape, which contains characters from Red Sonja and John Carter of Mars. All of these are Dynamite Comics publications, and I'm still holding out for the heroes to meet KISS.

I would say they are humans with one extra, racial perk:

Red Skin: your skin is red.
