Ive seen a few threads about Collar of the True Companion, but there seems to be some conflict on how it really works. My question is if it is used on an animal companion do they remain your companion after one week? the description of the item says "If the collar is worn for at least 1 week by a creature of the animal type, the creature is raised to humanlike sentience, as though by the awaken spell. " im assuming this means it gains the intelligence boost exclusively, not being effected by anything other effects of awaken

The first line of the awaken spell is: "You awaken a tree or animal to human-like sentience."
but the item says " the creature is raised to humanlike sentience, as though by the awaken spell." and not the creature gains all the benefits of the awaken spell, which would mean an increase in hd and a change of type as well

The awaken spell describes what happens when "You awaken a tree or animal to human-like sentience." The language is almost identical to that of the collar.
I don't see any other possible interpretation.
For one thing, the basic idea that a creature with human like sentience isn't an animal is kind of baked into the whole game, becoming a magical beast is an expected part of an animal being raised to human-like intelligence.
In any event, I would certainly expect if the collar wasn't to effect a creature 'as though by the awaken spell' it would have spelled out more thoroughly what it didn't and didn't effect. Saying only it is effected by the awaken spell pretty much means it is the whole thing.
