With the new stamina system, has there been any confirmation of subdual damage?
There is no nonlethal damage. Instead you just decide when you kill a creature to not kill them and knock them out instead. At least, I remember reading that somewhere, though that was a while ago now so I'm not sure where it was anymore...

I know it works that way in 5e D&D, but don't know if that's how it works in Starfinder.

I decided to stop being lazy and just look up the original post:
Short form -- no matter how much damage it does, a nonlethal attack can't kill you.
It is not tracked or healed separately. It just isn't, itself, lethal.

Interesting. I wonder, based on this, whether there will be weapons that are considered non-lethal. The idea of pulling a blow when firing a awesome plasma cannon of fire seems a little far fetched.
The issue would be making varied "non lethal" weapons. 3.5/Pathfinder was a little limited in this regard. Another solution could be giving some weapons a "Set to Stun" mode.

I believe one of the first level pregen characters at Paizocon had a nonlethal weapon. I think it was the Mystic, with a stun-pistol that did 1d4. And given how many pages they say they dedicated to weapons, I bet there will be plenty to choose from.
Now you've got me thinking of the stun weapons used in the Firefly episode when Simon, River, and Jayne were captured by the Alliance forces. They were pretty good at stunning people, quite terrible at anything else.

The memory of them trying to shoot a lock with it amuses me. However they did a right number on the guards. Reminded me in turn about the stun blasters from Minority Report.

For some weapons there will be probably nonlethal ammo clips
The merciful weapon fusion also exists in some form. From the soldier 5th level ability
"Secret of the Magi (SU)When you imbue a weapon with the rune of the eldritch knight, in addition to its normal benefits, the rune grants the weapon one of the following weapon fusions of your choice: ethereal, flaming, frost, merciful, or shock. The weapon can't gain a fusion it already has, and this bonus fusion doesn't count toward the maximum total level of fusions the weapon can have at once. The bonus fusion ends when the weapon ceases to be imbued with the rune of the eldritch knight. For more information on fusions, see page 191."

... so, hypothetical here, i have a Gauss rifle that over penetrates and hits all enemies in a line but if i slap a merciful fusion onto that..? or a nonlethal flamethrower?

Weapon fusions are magic. So it's no different than using a +1 Meciful Greateaxe to knock someone unconscious in Pathfinder.

Another question that no one has asked yet
since we have a lot of humanoid creatures, potentially an unlimited number - what about cross breeds?
I mean we have half elves and orcs but i can sure imagine half lashunta (other half potenitally elf) or triaxians
At this point, the real question would be whether the core rulebook provided rules (such as a feat or two) to support such characters or whether that is being left as an exercise for 3rd party publishers and/or players to work out. Even if we assume that most races cannot naturally interbreed, surely the biological sciences are advanced enough to support the necessary gene splicing in case (for example) a certain lashunta wants to have a child with her ryphorian boyfriend.

But are there black powder lasers?

Screw that, I want black powder laser SWORDS!
:)
Now I have visions of black powder saber-wielding Jedi Knight in disguise as ship's cook, Quinn Gon McJinn, looking for the alien with the black spot and reporting for duty aboard the starship, Hispaniola.

I'd imagine with such a large base of playable races, there might be some kind of theme that lets you take traits from two races or something like that. It would probably be more work than necessary to create a half-breed whenever a new humanoid race comes out.
You could set this up ahead of time by designing all your races with different labels attached to each of their traits, either primary or secondary. Primary traits aren't crossable; you get either all the primaries from one or the other parent. Secondary traits (less powerful, less game breaking) can be a little more flexible.
So when two species crossbreed, the offspring gets all primary traits from one of their parents, then may get one, two, a few, or several of their secondary traits from the other parent. A point system like Race Builder would trade balance for complexity, but if you left it up to the GM to approve all crossbreeding on a case by case basis then you can keep it a little more simple.
