The chakram is the best late game melee weapon because it isn't a melee weapon

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

A chakram is a ranged classed weapon that can be used as a melee weapon at a -1, with a DC 15 reflex save to avoid dealing half damage to yourself, unless you're wearing heavy armor- then you don't have to make the save at all.

Due to being a ranged weapon, it can take ranged weapon abilities- namely, the designating line.

After the first hit, all of the rest of your and your allies melee attack rolls increase by 4, and damage by 6.

In the late game, when you can afford a +9 weapon, or in the mid game with warrior spirit from fighter, this means it's a +8 to hit and +11 to damage weapon on every attack besides the first.

I believe that if you are using a missile weapon with certain functions that aren't allowed on melee weapons that they will shut off if you use it in melee

Does a thrown impact weapon automatically become a not-impact weapon?

I question where this is in the rules.

That said, like most things I do, this is just for breaking the heck out of the system.

After all, is is just as easy with an off hand ranged weapon while two weapon fighting.

Probobly something like the dragon pistol so you can designate groups of targets with a single shot.

An actual use for sword & pistol or close quarters thrower.

Also isn't there a difference between "ranged" and "thrown" for the purposes of these things? So Designating couldn't go on a Chakram in the first place.

Could be wrong on that though.

Edit: there is for Designating at least.

It does not say attacks or hits, it specifically calls out "shots".

Not really- a starknife is a melee weapon that can be thrown.

But a chakram is classed as a ranged weapon, just like a javelin or rope dart.
They follow all the ranged weapon rules.

This special ability can only be placed on ranged weapons or ammunition. Each time a ranged weapon or ammunition with this ability hits a creature, its magic designates the target. Allies gain a +4 morale bonus on melee attack rolls and a +6 morale bonus on melee damage rolls against the designated target for 1 round. Multiple successful shots fired at the same target do not increase the bonuses or their duration.

It simply says that multiple shots fired don't increase duration, but it states that any hit triggers the effect.

I will make a note here- when I make threads like these it's usually just me trying to explore the depths of the system.

I don't intend to play most of these (in part because of the fact that I never have a chance to play rather then dm.)

It does seem like more than a few people (that, or a few very vocal people) take stuff like this seriously and regularly start demanding the game be razed to the ground for it, though. I've seen that cause some problems.

IF BARBARIAN TAKE THROW ANYTHING, ANYTHING AM THEREFORE RANGED WEAPON.

ERGO, BARBARIAN CLEARLY ABLE PUT ENCHANTMENT ON ANYTHING.

THIS NOT REALLY MATTER, SINCE BARBARIAN BASICALLY AM GIANT SOLO ACT OF AWESOME AND NICE HAIR, BUT IF BARBARIAN EVER HAVE FRIENDS WHO AM NOT THROWN OFF BY BARBARIAN INABILITY TO GRASP DELICACIES OF SOCIAL INTERACTION THEN BARBARIAN SURE THIS AM CLEARLY GOOD PLAN.

ASSUMING ANYTHING EXIST THAT BARBARIAN NOT KILL IN ONE ROUND, WHICH THERE AM NO SUCH THINGS.

What about another, identical AM BARBARIAN? If you fought, either one or neither of you would kill each other in the first round. The chances of you killing each other in the first round are vanishingly small.

Here I thought AM BARBARIAN would use Pun Pun as a throwing weapon.

It increases the damage you deal, after the first hit.

That said, it means it's an improvised ranged weapon.

And that's another can of worms.
